章節 39: 39 Trouble At The Diner

Some few days passed when the entourage finally reached a city, their destination, Versal. Versal is a very, very big city when compared to Carolin city. It was really hard moving freely with all their loads in the ever busy streets.

"Well I guess this is it right?" Ben said looking around in astonishment.

"Why?" asked Matilda in her usual flat tone.

"We're meant to go our separate ways from here, no?" he asked confused.

"Weren't going to taste the dishes like you wanted?" she raised a brow.

Ben looked at the young woman before in confusion, luckily he didn't show. What he didn't understand was that after he displayed his abilities the night they were about to get robbed the way Matilda acted towards him change, by a small margin though. She became a lot more talkative whenever he asks her a question. She didn't look stupid, so he doubted she did this because she was scared of him or whatever.

Ben couldn't figure out if she really had an ulterior motive but he wouldn't lie if he said he wasn't glad she became a little bit approachable. And now it looks like she's considering his offer to go taste a few dishes... not for a date!

"But you didn't want to go on a date, not like it was even that in the first place." Ben smiled as his purple eyes shone with interest.

"Exactly, we aren't." Matilda places her hand on her hip returning her own smile.

"Well okay, lead the way, I'm starving."

They both went out after Matilda was done registering-in her goods she transported. They stopped at a restaurant with a nice background but an awkward name - We-Meal. When they opened the doors of the restaurant a bell rang, then a slim pretty waitress walked up to them with a bright smile.

"Welcome sir, miss, please have a seat over here." the waitress said gesturing them to a table at the center of the restaurant.

"Actually I was wondering if you have any quiet place around?" Ben stopped the waitress and said, meanwhile slipping one cold round metal into her hands with a carefree smile. She frowned knowing that if it was bribery one should at least use a few hundred pieces of copper or a few tens of silver, not one... her eyes widened seeing the golden round coin in her hand.

"Oh... ah... right this way sir." the waitress didn't even check the two cold metals in her hands, quickly bringing them to a room upstairs. "We will be with you soon sir, miss." the waitress bowed and left, almost running out even, Ben nodded. The waitress went out to give them some space.

"What's the use of coming to a VIP room just to eat normal food?" Matilda asked as the waitress left. Ben only shrugged taking a sit at one side of the table-for-two.

Five minutes later a waiter came to take their order.

"Do tell, which of these dishes are better than my home's?" Ben asked looking over the menu.

"Why not just choose any, I bet you'll be fine with it." Matilda frowned at his proposal. This was no different than a date if he let's her choose a dish.

"Okay, if you say so. I'd like #3 and #9." Ben told the waiter as his gaze was still on Matilda opposite him with a smile.

Both Matilda and the waiter looked at Ben shocked. Matilda had expected Ben to press on her choosing a meal as every gentle man should do on a date. The waiter looked at Ben like he was an idiot on his first date, he knew because of experience that if the lady doesn't want to choose a dish first the man should just stale until she gives in.

"I'll be having #4 and #8 please." Matilda overcame her shock and placed her order.

Ten minutes later their meal was served. Both Matilda and Ben were having a nice meal and have been knowing more of each other, well it was more of Ben knowing Matilda, because everyone knew Ben.

"So what are you going to be doing in the city for the time being?" Matilda asked taking a sip from her potato-pork soup.

"Why do you ask?" Ben questions.

"Ben, even if you have ten thousand gold coins, you'll have to spend or it'll be stolen," as she spoke she dropped a pouch full with coins on the table for both of them to see, surprisingly it was Ben's pouch.

"Yeah I know," Ben looked at the pouch not feeling a tad bit surprised at all, he continues to cut on his Beefy-rice dish. "that's why I'll be more careful." he said bringing out a silver necklace with half of a broken heart so both of them could see with his left hand.

Matilda clasps the place right above her maple with a shocking gasp "how... how did you do that?" the surprising thing wasn't how he stole it but that no one had ever seen the necklace since it was under her clothes all the time. At this point she was red because of embarrassment.

"This is a very beautiful medallion, you should keep it safe at all times." Ben was at the verge of bursting into laughter seeing the shock in her face, he held back when he saw the shock being replaced with anger.

"Since you're good at this why not do it as a profession then?!" she angrily stood up and snatched the medallion from Ben going for the door.

Ben quickly stood up to block her, he knew this time he messed up "Whoa whoa. Calm down, I am sorry if what I did had hurt you. Please, I'm really sorry."

It was a sincere apology looking at his eyes. She came to a stop after looking into those purple eyes of his that felt really sorry. Hearing him apologize made her stomach knot multiple times 'What did he do to apologize?' she asked herself. If anything she should be the one to apologize, and multiple times at that. Her anger was quenched, her shoulder slumped.

"I'm really sorry." Ben said again. Another knot was tied over the multiple knots in her stomach.

"No, no I'm sorry. I had overreacted back there..." taking a few breaths to calm herself. Ben sighed in relief as they just stood there. "We haven't finished our meal." Matilda reminded which caused Ben to smile. Moving back to their table silence descended for some time before she spoke again. "What kind of work can you do? I have a few contractions." she added.

Thankful their conversation resumed, Ben leaned closer to the table like it was something very important "What are the options?"

"There's a lot of sales- and businessmanship?"

"Not good at it."

"Cook?"

"Nope."

"Security man?"

"Nope."

"Accountant?"

"Nah."

"Secretary?"

"Does your connections go that far... nope, so continue."

"Farmer?"

"Don't even go there."

"Blacksmith?"

"Blacksmith?" Ben's interest was perked up.

"Yeah, you know, forging weapons, kitchen utensils, farming..."

"Yeah, yeah I know all that." waving his hands to stop the indirect insults.

"Then?" she raised a brow.

"I guess we could give it a try what do you say?" thinking for a while he finally accepted.

"Then Blacksmith it is."

Three hours later their date... *cough*... their lunch was over, they parted ways from then to meet up at an inn that was slightly a whole district from the closest blacksmith shop.

Ben went into the market to buy some things to cook, he was very disappointed in this world's cooking methods. They all lacked the mixture of good ingredients. With his abundant knowledge... very abundant knowledge, if you are to combine his with Lucy's, he can make a much better meal than what they give here. However those would be the last things he'll be buying.

Ben arrived at a boutique to buy new sets of clothes for himself. Spending two gold coins he bought some clothes made with good materials, he made sure they weren't clothes nobles normally wear, almost like that of a commoner but with good materials. The life of a noble made it hard for him to wear the clothes of a commoner. Few hours later he arrived with two bags, he couldn't possibly put them inside his spatial ring so not too bring suspicion.

Matilda saw Ben come in from wherever he went throughout the day and waved him over to her seat when he arrived at the inn "What took you so long?"

"Shopping." dropping his two shopping bags by his side he sat opposite Matilda.

The first floor of the inn was like a diner, if people don't want to spend their money on expensive foods or waste it in a bar they go to such a diner. Like every other diner this one was filled with people of different lifestyles.

"You took the whole day to shop?" Matilda asked.

"You can't possibly think I could be so indecisive, haha" Ben laughed.

"So, how was it?"

"Wasn't half bad." Ben shrugs his shoulder. Indeed the place looked better than Carolin but compared to the cities in Earth, Versal was nothing.

"Oh, then that means you've seen better places?" she asked with a raised brow.

"Who knows... Matilda, is it me or is there like a hundred people staring daggers at me?" Ben said with a long face. Is it wrong to sit with a beautiful lady nowadays?

"Who knows..." Matilda answers grinning at him secretly as she raised her glass to sip on her drink.

"I only wonder...?"

"Excuse me miss, but is this person disturbing you?" a voice interrupted Ben from behind him. Ben could only shake his head at the man.

"Did I say he was disturbing me?" Matilda answered taking another sip. Ben could only smile knowing a show was about to begin.

The man behind Ben already came beside their table so Ben was able to see the idio... cough, the gentleman. What stumped Ben was that the man was indeed handsome with golden locks that passed his shoulder blade. Yet what surprises Ben the most was that the man before him was already a First-level elemental swordsman.

"Miss I had invited you to my table yet you prefer to be entertained by this." the man in locks said a bit angry. He took one more look at Ben and confirmed he was much more handsome than the young man sitting with a lady he wants.

"I think I've entertained the likes of you enough. Since the lady says she isn't disturbed, why are you here? or is it that you can't let her stay in peace with another man who isn't a circus clown?" Ben stood up to end the young man's charade.

""Oohhh!"" a collective gasp resounded in the whole ground floor. Ben's table have collected a lot of people's attention because of the man in golden locks

Ben didn't know if it was a good thing but it literally took the man two whole minutes to fully understand what Ben was saying. Very unfortunate, he must have a brain the size of a pea. Hah! (sigh)
