"School bag? Pair of sneakers? How can I consider an apartment as such?" She asked incredulously, but with a smile of gratitude.

"Really, Mr. Moore, I'm so grateful that you're so kindhearted and generous..."

"Kindhearted? This is the third time you have called me kind in the last hour. Does that mean you no longer think I'm cruel?" Alex asked before he could stop himself and Vanessa looked at him in confusion.

"When did I say you are cruel?" Vanessa asked confusedly, wondering what he was talking about, but Alex shook his head.

There was no need to talk about that. It was past. Why did he have to remember something like that right now? "Nevermind."
