章節 1: Conquered city
It was midday and the surrounding of the Gerar kingdom was boiling hot. People were running for their lives while their neighbours were being slain, the town hall had been burnt down and all the soldiers had long gone, with some dead and some struggling to survive by running away but for this kingdoms there was no escape.
The Demerticans were renowned people, thier kingdom had over sixty percent profits from small villages and had over a thousand contracts which only benefit them from other strong kingdoms who were not strong enough to stand before them. Their kingdom alone was like a gold platter while the rest were the crumbs on the soil. Demerticans were warriors and was filled with the rich and the strong none other. Women dreamt of going there as maids or slaves for the place would be overflowing with suitors which was very true but still it was a deadly place and was not meant for everybody.
Today thier king, Rex J Aiden was determined to overthrow this particular city which he tagged as "useless" and as always he keeps to his word.
The slaves were in a cramped underground house all chained tightly around their ankles and arms, they could hear the screams and wails of people, the marching of horses above their head and the ground vibrating from whatever was causing it. They were shook and were scared they would be discovered, some of them started praying and some tried to break free, some sat there lifeless ready for whatever would want to happen or will happen. Amongst them sat Star, her long brown hair scrubbed the dusty floor as she was too tired to stand, she was indeed mortified by the sounds she was hearing. With every second she felt the walls closing in, she was scared that she woulddie today. Tears dropped down her cheek,she knew how life had been tough on her yet she was one of the people that actually feared death. She couldn't accept dieing without knowing what it feels like to live, there is more to my story, she thought to herself, she didn't want to end it here.
Upon looking around it hit her that everyone had already accepted their fate, the place was now quiet and no one said a word maybe because they were asking their God for forgiveness because they knew.
The young woman beside Star turned and noticed her crying.
'I also fear what would become of us' she said as Star sat up properly and tried to wipe her tears as the woman continued.
'I too do not want to die' she said again and Star's tears increased with her words.
'we all fear death,some more than others but what can we do?, theres nothing slaves can do about any situation we all have to sit and wait'
'I..i..i don't want to d..die!'Star struggled to say in-between her tears as people started turning around to see what was going on.
'It is true..but, i believe my children have prepared very good places for me up there, i also beleive there's no better way for me to go, I'm old and weak, i could've been thrown down a hill at one point so this is like a gift for me...but for you?' She asked facing star .
I just don't want to leave as a slave..its..its not fair, I'm still..y..young...a..n..and i think i deserve better' The woman nodded silently as she indeed felt sorry for the young girl.
'We all had a life before coming here, i used to have a daughter, blonde hair and beautiful eyes, i know the two of you would've made such good friends, she's just as reserved as you are' another woman said joining into the conversation.
'We got separated during the moving and she got taken as a maid to one other kingdom and each day it puts a smile on my face knowing that my child sleeps on a bed and eats good food' she said smilling to herself .
'So maids have all those things?' Star asked surprised
'Ofcourse!!, they live much more better than us, i hope you survive this so you would be a maid or even better'
' i hope so too ' star whispered to herself.
Few hours passed by and the noise from above reduced, everyone started having a little ray of hope thinking the other soldiers had gone without checking the bunkers or so. One of the slaves who was beside the door,or rather was chained closer to the door decided to peep through the little hole on the wooden door, it was small yet one would be able to see a 90° view, he looked out with his chains shaking and cackling with every move.
Placing his hands on the door carefully he peeped through the holes with his hands shaking trying not to make any sound, some of the younger male slaves stood near him to support him incase of any thing,
He looked through the hole and saw the bodies of people lying around and soldiers simply walking past them like its nothing, he kept looking for a while and saw the men whispering amongst themselves whilst looking at a paper that was big, the slave man recognized it for it was what they used to navigate around his heart shook for the location of where they were was boldly written on the map.
Soon they started pointing to the direction of the door, and more of the men were coming with their armors sounding, they were a distance away yet it was obvious they would soon be heading this way.
The slave man quickly pulled away startling the other one behind him, 'whats wrong? , did u see something??!' He asked eagerly.
'See for yourself' the other said giving him room to walk up there. The man looked and saw numerous horses running past his view and the soldiers still focusing on the map with some looking directly at them.
As the 2nd slave man looked away the 1st signalled him to come closer thereby whispering in his ear.
'I don't think we should let them know about the soldiers heading here,they would panic' he said in a very low tone. 'But look at them' the 2nd man said and they both turned back and saw the worried look on everyone's faces, they all were waiting.
'Do u think lying to them will make anything better?' The 2nd man asked whilst the 1st thought carefully.
We stay quiet, he said finally and tried to sit down but the other opposed. ' This isn't right, maybe we could figure something out ...m' he was interrupted.
'THERE'S NOTHING TO FIGURE OUT!, WERE SLAVESS!...SLAVES!!' he shouted startling everyone else.
'We're slaves, what part of that can't you understand?, we sit! and wait!' He said and sat down again this time seemingly angry.
'I may be a slave but i am not a coward' the 2nd man said.
'What did u say?'
'I beleive i was loud and clear but I'll be more than happy to repeat myself, i said i may be a slave but atleast i can face d crowd and tell them the truth rather than being a cheap coward' .
By this time the two men stood face to face whilst others tried to calm them down but they didn't look ready for that.
'You sorry excuse for a man <spits>, Everyone ! <turns to the crowd of chained slaves> the intruders are coming soon, they have found the map of loki and will be approaching here soon, brace yourselves' he said shortly and faced the 1st man.
There was tension in the air, everyone was aware of the happenings but they didn't want a fight to arouse between themselves at least not today. Star watched carefully as she recognised both men,she had seen them laughing with each other on many occasions maybe the situation of today just got to their heads, their eyes were white yet full of fear, they looked like who had alot of adrenaline ready to rush in. These two men were very hefty and were the only ones capable of fighting against anyone but now look what they were doing.
The first slave man suddenly raised both his hands and held the 2nd mans eyes as he screamed causing attraction to the place, everyone immediately got up while gasping, it was impossible to reach them.
The 1st slave man applied force until blood rushed down his arms and the man started begging, the 2nd man gripped his opponents neck and tried to strangle him but the tremendous pain coming from his eyes was too much, the 1st man let him go and he staggered backwards shouting different words trying to process what had happened to him, he touched his eyes and could only feel but could not see, it dawned on him that he had lost his sight.
The 2nd man charged at him angrily when suddenly the door flung open and that was the moment everyones heart seized. The blind man didnt realise this and the sword of one of the warriors pierced directly through his chest as everyone watched his body fall to the groud making a thumping sound as it collided with the floor.
