"How is he?" Dante asked his mother who stood outside the emergency unit with a horrified look.
"Oh Dante, you're here." She said in a soft voice and the moment her son reached out to her, she collapsed in his arms crying.
"The doctor said his heart went into shock." She explained in her thick Italian accent.
Dante didn't respond and just quietly pat her back while staring at the light indicating a surgery is ongoing, everything was still proving difficult for him to understand.
After a while, Dante's mother, Gia finally managed to calm down and Dante led her to sit on one of the chairs aligned in the hallways.
"How did he get like this? What was he doing before relapsing?" Dante questioned, even if he couldn't understand it all, it's best he should start from the places he could make sense from.
"He was watching the news." Gia murmured, which made Dante's back stiffen.
His father must have seen the announcement, there is no other explanation.
In other words, the reason his father was laying on the operating table with his life in danger is because he couldn't make the right decision.
Guilt started eating its way into Dante's heart as he sighed letting go of his mother, he rested his head in his palms.
His mind went to the pictures and letters, his brain screamed at him, it was Amber's doing, but his heart wanted to hear her confess to it before believing.
After all it could be she was being framed.
Just when Dante took out his phone to make a call, the doctor came out, and he immediately jumped up rushing to the doctor's side.
"Is he okay?" Dante asked worriedly, his father had always been battling with a heart disease, that's why he took control over the company early.
Well, with the condition he reports everything to his father.
Of course Dante is smart enough to filter the bad news, the only reason why he told his father about this particular project is because he thought it was feasible.
Who knew it would be what to land him in the hospital.
"He is fine, it's just-" The doctor paused looking unsure whether he should speak or not.
"Just what doctor?" Gia butted in looking anxious, her husband is her world, if anything happens to him, she won't be able to forgive herself, given the fact the disease in question is because of her.
The doctor just glanced at Dante then his mother, "You should see me in my office." He instructed and walked off.
"Mom stay here okay? Supervise them taking dad into his ward, make sure it's the VIP ward." Dante said to persuade his mother, giving her a peck on her forehead then walking behind the doctor.
"What's wrong with my father?" Dante asked the moment they got into the office.
"You should take your sit first kiddo." The doctor admonished, but Dante just glared at him through his glasses.
"I'm not a kid." He grumbled.
"I watched you grow up, so you are basically like a child to me, now sit your ass down." The doctor scolded sharply.
Dante murmured something underneath his breath before taking his seat.
If looks could kill, the doctor would probably be dead by now.
"Now to the matter at hand, your father doesn't have much time left."
Dante could feel his ears ringing as the words settled in.
His father doesn't have what?
"No, you seem to be mistaken, my dad is as strong as a bull, he will bounce back." Dante argued, there's no way his father is going soon.
Even if the old man wanted to die, he could do so naturally, not because of his sickness.
"It's a surprise he isn't dead after all this year-"
"Watch your words doctor!" Dante snapped, hitting the desk as he stood up, the chair falling in the process.
His aura filled with murderous intent.
The doctor just sighed and shook his head before looking at the report in his hands.
"His heart has grown frail, there's no telling how much longer it can last."
Dante eyes widened at realization then crouched on the crowd his hands scratching his hair aggressively.
Why? Everything was perfect just a day before and in the blink of an eye, two things that matter to him has been brought down.
"Don't be too hard on yourself." Dante looked up to see the doctor, Jake, staring at him with kind eyes.
Of course, he will say that, but will he say the same words when he finds out he is the reason for his father being here?
"Donald wouldn't want to see you like this, you are his strongest soldier as he always say."
Dante just sighed and stood up, leaving the office without giving any response to the doctor.
He couldn't tell his mother, it will completely wreck her.
He can't have his two parents out of reach.
It's selfish yes, but it's for the best, at least for now.
Dante was unable to remember how long he has been sitting by his father's side staring out the window in a daze.
His phone has been ringing a handful of times, he knew it was from investors, but he decided to ignore it, he wasn't in the right mental state with anything business related.
In other to prevent himself from making horrible decisions like before.
"Don't worry father, I'll right my wrong." Dante said to his father who was laying on the bed peacefully.
"Dante, the housekeeper brought some food, you should go eat, I'll watch over your father don't worry." Gia said entering into the room.
Dante wanted to argue but pushed it all down, he wouldn't want to worry his mother even more.
"Okay." He replied curtly standing up before proceeding to where the lunch box was kept.
Even food tasted bland, sighing, Dante eat only three spoons of food, then closing the whole thing up turning to look at his parents.
A soft smile appeared on his face the moment he saw his mother singing softly to his sleeping dad.
Their love has never failed to amuse him.
