章節 6: Into The Arms Of A Man (1)

Once the sun was out, Madeline's attitude never changed.

Auriela showed up to make sure she was still locked in her room, and Madeline played mute while listening to all the rubbish the woman was fond of spitting out from her mouth, like it was some sort of anthem she planned on saying to Madeline every morning.

It was becoming unbearable, yet she never gave a hint. She pretended to be the same little girl who would curl herself in a corner, always shaking in fear by her Aunt's illusive tone towards her.

The moment she left and had locked the doors from outside, Madeline waited for a few seconds for her footsteps to fade before getting out of bed.

She quietly tiptoed to her window, waiting patiently for Roland's carriage to leave the building so she could commence her plan. Right after his carriage had left, the carriage of Auriela also exited the building five minutes after, but Madeline didn't bother to strike right away.

She waited ten minutes more, knowing their carriage would have covered enough distance by then. When her time was up, she hurried to her small dressing table, picked up the wooden chair and stared right back at the window with a look of determination in her glossy dark orbs.

Using her strength, she flung the chair at the glass window, creating a sound that made her cover her ears and she looked away. It was so loud she was sure the servants around must have heard it.

Returning her gaze to the window, there were cracks on it. Cracks that signified if she hit the window a few more times, it would break.

A half satisfying smile twisted her lips to the side. Roland should be ready to add a broken window to his financial budget.

Picking up the wooden chair, she continued to hit the glass window, smashing it several times and watching the cracks spread until finally, the pieces shattered with an ear bursting loud sound.

"Did you hear that?" Madeline could hear a servant question someone just outside her door, but it didn't matter, cause even if they ended up breaking her door down, she'll be out of here by then.

"Madeline!" A servant banged on her door, wanting to confirm if the lady was alright. When the servant heard the loud shattering noise, his mind pictured the young baroness going crazy and destroying her room.

"Is everything alright?" He asked, but got no response from the inside.

Another servant walked by with a laundry basket, "why are you here? Madame won't be pleased if she returns to see you haven't gotten the bouquets for the lady."

"Forget about bouquets, we'll be dead if something happens to her."

The maid holding a laundry basket looked at the servant with her forehead creased, eyes evidently narrowed, "what do you mean?"

"I just heard something break inside, it sounded like glass to me, what if she's hurt herself?"

"Oh please," the maid snorted, "it is not like the young baroness to break something, you must have imagined it, and stop disturbing, you know very well she doesn't speak to people." Was the maids retort before she walked away. She doesn't care what happens as long as she finishes the work assigned to her by Auriela.

Meanwhile, Madeline had already tied her bedsheet in two, using it to form a long rope that she could use in getting down from this building.

Attaching the head of the improvised rope to something that could hold it properly, she threw the rest of the body down the window, right after confirming the coast was clear, and was sure no servants would walk by since they were all inside.

Avoiding the sharp edges of the broken windows and that on the ground, she climbed the window and took a deep breath. Keeping the will to do this in her heart, she began to lower herself gently to the ground while holding unto the rope.

She was careful not to make a slip and hurt herself, and she had escaped too many times to be afraid of escaping again.

Feeling her feet touch the grass, she knew she had succeeded in escaping from the cage she was held in. Looking at the stoned fence that was her only barrier to escaping from this place, she quickly searched for a ladder.

Going out through the gate would be even more risky since Roland might have assembled some men there, so she didn't bother taking the risk of peeking and chose to fly off the fence instead.

Continuing her search for a ladder, she ended up spotting one at a corner. She quickly hurried to go get it, then set it properly against the walls of the fence so she could climb her way out, and to her deepest luck, it was the right height.

Carefully, she began to climb the ladder, making her way to the top with her heart drumming rapidly against her chest. When she looked below the other side of the fence, she realized it was too high for her to jump down, and since it was just 8am, the people living in the upper west quarters must have left for their daily jobs already.

"What are you doing?!" A harsh yell came from her window, leading the young lady to automatically freeze in her spot.

Madeline gasped when she turned to look at her window, and she was right. Her uncle had placed men to watch her every move.

"Stop right there!" The man dressed in black was about to jump down from her window, but when he saw the height for himself, he couldn't do it and frustratingly had to use the door, exiting her room and running down the stairs so he could catch her.

Oh no!

Quickly glancing below, Madeline spotted a young man strolling by. There was someone who walked with him, and they were both immersed in a conversation when the voice of a lady interrupted them.

"Mr! Catch!" She pleadedly yelled, trying to get their attention and when the young lad suddenly looked up to see who was speaking, a lady had thrown herself off the fence, and his eyes widened when she was falling directly at him.

Out of pure instincts, his hands stretched forward as he caught the woman in his arms, and the man who was beside him felt his eyes grow wider than it ever did, seeing a woman fall straight into the hands of his young Lord.

Madeline had feared he wouldn't catch her, but to her relief, he did. She pulled away to look into the man's captivating amber-brown eyes, but now wasn't the time to start studying her savior as she quickly struggled in his arm, just so the young lad would drop her to her feet.

Noticing her hurry, he had no choice but to drop her down, and Madeline quickly bowed. "Thank you."

She didn't even bother to look at her savior as she took to her heels, running as fast as she could in only her black straight dress, her hair dancing behind her as she continued to run, wanting to quickly get out of sight before her uncle's men spotted her.
