When Sage arrived to combat class, the other students were warming up and stretching. She noticed Caspian immediately. He was sparring with another shifter, their movements fast as lightning as they tossed blows at each other. Caspian was already sweating and had removed his shirt, which lay abandoned in the grass. His muscles rippled in the sunlight and Sage felt a little lightheaded as she moved towards him.

Focus, she told herself. She needed answers.

She walked over to the pair, shot the other shifter a glare, and said: “Leave. He’s my partner, today.” And possibly for the rest of her life.

The shifter paused, glancing at Caspian who was watching her with an amused smirk on his face. The shifter shrugged and turned to find a different partner.

Sage took up her stance in front of Caspian.

“You came ready for a fight today, witch,” he said casually.

“You have no f*cking idea.”
