章節 1: Chapter 1— Prelude

In the beginning, there was a white noise of

warlords that fought for control of the galaxy.

This was a time before humans, before robots

and before phantom energy, before anything

that we would recognize as mankind.

The warlords were the people that poured out of

the stars and the moons and they would fight

each other with the power of their arms and

the strength of their swords and the cunning of

their intellects.

They fought each other for glory and to prove their strength. They fought to survive and succeed, shedding their sweat and blood, fighting against each other, animals and the forces of nature.

They grew from living in the caves to building villages, towns, cities, and empires to ultimately civilizations all around the globe.

Humans have advanced rapidly. With rapid advancement, they gained more knowledge but they never stopped gaining more knowledge. Thus, they made many new shocking discoveries that changed Mankind's history forever.

Many new techniques, ideas, ideologies and technologies were patronized, replacing the old, ancient techniques.

In the river of a long time, many things related to the past of the ancient Human Civilizations were ultimately lost as people forgot their roots.

Time has stood testament to all of these, the rise and fall of countless heroes, Emperors and their Empires.

In the last few decades, people gradually understood the importance of their past and human history.

To understand the past of humans, mankind organized many expeditions, even to the remotest corners of the globe, embarking on a new phase.

They even set milestones by finding some of the civilizations that were once lost and remained forgotten for thousands of years.

Even after rediscovering these wonders of the Ancient Era, historians, archaeologists, scientists and people alike still lack concrete evidence about many things of the past. This includes clues of the past like cultures, lifestyles, and languages of the past.

[21st Century, Lunar Calendar - The year 2022, Country: China...]

A boy in dirty clothes sat in a room inside a luxurious villa. He was going through some old newspapers and magazines, reading about the discoveries and theories that involved the ancient Human civilizations.

The room was dark and damp, with rundown walls covered in cobwebs. The only source of light was a single window, that illuminated the entire room during the day.

One could say, the room had a bare minimum of living necessities, with little to no furniture. Other than the single broken bed with a dirty bed sheet, there's just a regular old table and a chair.

The room is a sharp contrast to the luxurious villa, which looked beautiful and extravagant from the outside.

In comparison to the villa and its breathtaking scenario, this room was just like some old attic, that was left abandoned for years.

The boy was so lost in reading that he even forgot the passage of time. He was woken up by the sound of footsteps followed by the "creaking", sound of doors opening.

A middle-aged man in his 40s entered the room. He wore glasses and a tight suit, that fitted his handsome and sturdy figure, giving him a gentlemanly appearance.

Most people will have such an impression when meeting Ye Chaoxin for the first time.

---------------------------

"Ye Chen you are still going through those stupid articles! It's Ridiculous that a lowly rat like you still dream to become an adventurer! Don't waste time on these things and go clean the toilets." taunted the man.

Ye Chaoxin always hated this boy, who was brought up on the streets and later adopted by his father 17 years ago.

Ye Chen did not reply. He just remained seated without caring about the man's words, focusing on the newspaper article.

"Ye Chen! What the hell is wrong with you? Why don't you listen to your father?" shouted a man angrily.

"Just look at the others of your age! They have already got Jobs and are helping the family. Unlike you, useless trash who keeps on staying at home doing nothing. You even struggle to continue your University! You are just pathetic trash and a burden to us!"

"I Shouldn't have wasted all those money, raising you all these years." the man continued to curse.

Ye Chen stayed seated in the chair, unresponsive and unmoving.

"Son of a b****!"

Seeing Ye Chen remain seated, unbothered by his curses Ye Chaoxin cursed a final time and left, slamming the door close with a loud "bang".

Although it seemed the boy didn't care and remained unresponsive. His hand were clenched tightly, his eyes red with humiliation, grief and sadness as he listened to his father's cursing.

This was the usual routine of this household, The Ye Family.

The Ye Family is prominent and influential in Shanghai. It is also one of the top 10 Families in the country that has high exercise over Political, Military Powers and policymaking.

The Ye family always considered Ye Chen a nuisance given their high background and eyes atop their heads.

Sometimes he felt he didn't belong to this family. Sorry, but he was rather not wanted by this family, that he was adopted into.

Only because of a person's life-saving grace and filial piety, and because of another person's love, did he stay here despite all the hardships and emotional setbacks.

Thinking about it, his eyes became blurred and misty with tears.

Gradually, he drifted off to sleep, as his thoughts wandered back to 17 years ago. When he was just a little kid, roaming around the streets just for some food.

[17 Years Ago....]

A kid of about five wandered aimlessly on the streets in the heart of the busy metropolis of London.

He wore a torn and dirty dress and walked staggeringly.

Passerbys just glanced a look at the boy, before going their own ways.

Sometimes, people felt sympathy for the boy while some avoided him like he was a plague.

But that's it! No one cared to offer the little kid a helping hand.

The little boy was used to experiencing such sympathy filled gazes of people all around. But his face always remained expressionless.

While kids of his age, grew up being pampered, spending their childhood in happiness, under the care of their parents and living in luxurious houses. Whereas the boy had to scavenge on food in the dustbins and had no fixed home nor any place to call home. In fact, he didn't even understand the term 'home'!!

Sometimes he slept on the streets, sometimes on the subways or parks and in front of shops and shopping malls.

But luck had never been the same to him.

Most of the time he had to stay without food for days or even weeks. Sometimes, he even got kicked out of the malls or playgrounds and avoided because of his filthy rag turned skinny appearance.

He was bullied and abused by people, sometimes even made fun of by passersby.

But no matter how badly people treated him, the boy bared it silently with no emotion on his expressionless face.

Facing hardship at such a young age helped him mature early compared to the kids of his age.

He was used to watching little kids of his age walking together with their families, holding their hands, looking happy.

As a child, he also fantasised and longed for familial affection and love but sadly he didn't know his parents or why they left him abandoned in the streets.

It had been too hard for a five-year-old kid to survive on his own on the streets, fighting for every ounce of bread in the dustbins just for survival!

One day while the boy was searching for food in the dustbins of the park. He was spotted by an elderly man who was sitting on a bench, looking at the sunset.

Seeing the boy searching for food in the dustbin, the old man was shocked.

He has never seen such a young child searching for food in the dustbins.

With curiosity in his mind, the elderly man followed the boy silently and watched every action of the boy from the shadows.

What he found, left him in shock and disbelief!

He could imagine how cruel and hard it was for a five-year-old kid to live on his own in the streets.

He decided to adopt the kid. Not because he was sympathetic for him, but because the kid almost resembled his grandchild, whom he had never seen. This developed a soft spot in the old lonely heart of the elderly man.

He slowly waddled toward the boy supporting himself on his walking stick.

The little kid heard the sound of footsteps. He looked and saw an elderly man approaching him unsteadily supported by a walking stick.

When the kid noticed the man, the first thing that came to his mind was that the elderly man's hairs were very unusual.

It was very long and lush with a salt and pepper tint. He has crow's feet under his eyes and has a clipped, Abe Lincoln Beard.¹

From his looks, anyone can guess that he must be in his seventies because his face is time chiselled and weather-beaten.

At times, the old man seemed a bit spiritless, as if life and old age are getting the better of him. The clothes he wore were ragged and threadbare as if he is giving in to the passage of time and is unconcerned about his appearance.

He smiled at the boy and asked, "What is your name, little friend?"

"Name? What is that? Is it some kind of food?" the boy asked, his eyes seemingly confused.

Hearing this the old man was astonished and felt distressed. He could never have imagined the life of this little kid in the street all these years.

The old man thought the boy was probably hungry. So he took out a packet of cookies from his pocket and handed them to the boy.

To his surprise, the boy did not take it and looked at the old man, with clear but confused eyes.

Seeing the boy's confused, emotionless but rather cute face the old man replied,

"It's for you. You can have it."

Listening to it the little boy's face had a slight change but it instantly returned to normal. But how quick were the old man's eyes, he clearly captured faint happiness in the kid's face.

"Thanks for the food Grandpa!" the boy replied politely. He then tore open the packet and munched on the cookies.

Hearing himself being called "Grandpa" the old man felt an electric shock followed by immense happiness as his face curved into a faint smile.

His laughter had a lot of megawatts in it! It totally transformed the elderly man's face and the years dropped away from his face. His eyes shone a bright, cerulean-green and his teeth gleamed like piano keys.

Although his voice trembled a little, and his face had a few drops of tears dripping down, he was very happy.

He watched the little boy munching the cookies with a gentle eye.

"Do you like it?" asked the old man.

"Yes, I like it. It tastes good!" replied the little boy.

"Do you want to go home with me?" (old man)

"Home??" the little boy sounded confused.

Seeing this the old man thought,

"Looks like I've to teach him everything from the basics."

He then smiled and replied,

"Home is a place where there is lots of food and a place to stay. And yes, there you'll have lots of cookies like this to eat."

"oooo" the boy sounded astonished.

"So from today, we both will live together in a home. You can call me Grandpa and you will be my grandson." the old man replied enthusiastically.

The boy nodded his head in understanding.

Later, the old man took the little boy to a huge mansion right in the heart of the city of London.

The little boy had never seen such a large house.

The mansion had a touch of medieval excellence in its architecture. Even the surroundings were beautifully decorated with gardens, statues and fountains giving the atmosphere a medieval vibe.

The boy looked at everything curiously like a country bumpkin and could not help but become astonished seeing the beautiful scenery.

The boy was brought into the mansion and cleaned by the maids. He was given clean clothes to wear that fitted him perfectly then he was finally served food.

The food looked good and consisted of different cuisines. Ye Chen who grew up in the streets had never seen such extravagant food in his life.

"Grrrr~" Ye Chen's stomach sounded, as his appetite was stimulated by the fragrance of the food.

In the end, he was so hungry that he end up eating a lot, till he could not eat any longer.

"How was the food? Did you enjoy it?" asked the old man as he caressed the little boy's head lovingly.

"Oh! the food was very nice. I've never tasted anything so good before." replied the boy as his eyes shone with brilliance.

"Thanks for taking me in Grandpa!" the boy bowed his head and thanked the old man seriously.

Seeing this the old man smiled happily. This grandson of his was truly exceptional. He had not seen the wrong person.

A child's heart is easy to get swayed by extravagant treatment but this little boy was still level headed, humble and polite. Moreover, he still kept the old man's life-saving grace in his heart. It's not easy to find such a sensible and understanding child like this.

"Okay, that's fine. You are my grandchild so how could you still not have a name. Don't worry Grandpa will give you a nice name. You'll follow my family name 'Ye' and your given name will be 'Chen'. 'Ye Chen', how does the name sound? Do you like it?" the old man asked The little boy.

"Yes, Grandpa I like the name. From today I'll be known as Ye Chen." replied the boy with enthusiasm.

"Okay, so from today you are officially a member of the 'Ye' Family." declared the old man.

It has been many years, since that day when he was adopted into the Ye Family by the old man. And many things have changed, over years.

The old man passed away, leaving behind his vast wealth and properties in Ye Chen's name.

Later The Old Man's family even came to the UK specifically to pick Ye Chen up, taking him to their ancestral home in China.

Everyone treated him nicely. He was given proper education and care. He was even admitted to a top school in the country.

Ye Chen was very sharp and intelligent as he scored the highest in every exam.

Later in University Entrance Examination, he even secured a seat in one of the best universities in the country but his foster father wanted him to take a different approach.

Later as his thoughts matured, he understood how attentive, the family had been to his every need.

So, as a gesture of kindness shown by the family. He transferred most of the assets he owned to the family.

Except for the London Mansion which he did not give because it was where he spent the happiest years of his life with grandpa and where he spent most of his childhood.

But everything changed in Ye Chen's life once he gave away the properties.

Instead of being accepted, he was cursed, abused and beaten by the family.

From the boy who was once loved by all (just for those properties) to becoming a dog of the family. He was even forced to live in a dark and dirty room with no good living conditions and even made to work hard.

Sometimes, he really missed his grandpa who treated him nicely as a family but he never felt even a trace of familial affection from this family.

But he still stayed in the family.

It's just that he convinced himself to believe, he was wanted or rather cared about by the family. But the reality was harsh. He received nothing but cold stares, curses and harsh treatments from this family, even from his fellow brother (real grandson of his adopted grandpa).

The only colour in his sad and bleak life were the novels, manhuas' and animes, which he read and watched online during his free time on his cell phone.

Sometimes Ye Chen becomes so frustrated with his current life, that he fantasized about acquiring cultivation techniques or systems like the MC's in the novels. But sadly for him, it never happened.

His beliefs crumbled. Ultimately he had to believe there's no fantasy world after all. He blamed all those authors who misdirect childrens like him.

He even thought of jumping in front of a truck. A typical way of getting reincarnated to another world as described in novels.

But sadly he lacked the courage, necessary to commit suicide.

[Present time....]

It was already dawn, as the first light of sunshine fell on the sleepy Ye Chen, illuminating the entire room.

Ye Chen slept like a baby, resting his head above the hands supporting the table. Last night he fell asleep, seated on the chair while thinking about his grandpa and his childhood memories.

If one observed, they could see the calm and serene sleepy boy, looked rather handsome.

A woman slowly walked up to the door and opened it slowly. The slight sound of the door opening instantly woke up Ye Chen from his sweet dreams.

"Chen'er haven't you still not woken up? It's already morning!"

"Mom, let me sleep a little longer." Ye Chen mumbled.

"No, you should get up now, like a good child otherwise mother will ignore you." the woman replied. Her voice was beautiful and sweet.

Hearing this Ye Chen slowly opened his sleepy eyes and saw a middle-aged woman standing near him as she slowly rubbed her hands on his head, brushing his messy, unkempt hairs.

She was a stunning beauty. But rather busty considering her age as it seemed time left no changes in her.

She had always been the same even seven years ago when Ye Chen met her for the first time.

This is Ji Xiaofan, his adopted mother. Ye Chaoxin's wife.

Other than his grandpa she is the only person in the Ye Family that loved Ye Chen.

Whenever Ye Chen was bullied and abused, she felt bitter and distressed. She wept silently, unable to do anything for him seeing how this son of her was being treated in the house.

Everyone in the house knew Ji Xiaofan had a soft spot for Ye Chen and treated him nicely. But they didn't mind it because that would neither change Ye Chen's condition nor affect their interests.

"Okay, it's already 7:00 a.m. You should get up now. Your Dad wants you to go to the store and get the groceries." Ji Xiaofan sounded sceptical as she mentioned her husband in front of Ye Chen, who was targetted by him.

Ye Chen was silent listening to his mom's sceptical voice. He became upset, listening to that man's name early in the morning.

"Mom is it worth spending your time with him. He even ignores and scolds you for meeting me. I think you should stop seeing me in order to not restrain yourselves." replied Ye Chen.

"..." hearing Ye Chen speak, Ji Xiaofan trembled.

She realised she had made Ye Chen upset.

She thought Ye Chen misunderstood her. But before she could explain herself, Ye Chen got up from the chair.

"Okay, it's fine. I'll go do the shopping."

Saying this Ye Chen took the bag and went out, after brushing and being refreshed.

Ji Xiaofan looked at Ye Chen's back as he walked away.

"I'm sorry! Mom didn't mean to hurt your feelings"

Ji Xiaofan spoke softly.

She decided to do something to improve her son's sour mood and planned to surprise him after he returns home.

But she was not aware that fate was going to play a cruel joke on her and this was the last time she was ever going to see Ye Chen.

----------------------------

Ye Chen was returning home after buying the grocery from the store.

He looked absent-minded as he walked along the pavements, thinking about all the rough times he had to go through in the family.

Sometimes he felt it would have been better for him to at least stay in the streets.

As the people abusing and cursing him will all be just passersby whom he'll not know. Compared to the abuses and mistreatment in the family, it will hurt his heart to a small extent.

He hoped to lead a happy and free life away from his family, where his life was more like hell.

Unknowingly, he reached a road crossing, having distracting thoughts looming in his mind. But he was so lost in his thoughts that he did not see the traffic lights were still green.

Suddenly he heard a loud honk of a truck. He regained his senses and he pulled himself out from the distracting thoughts, only to see that he was in the middle of the road crossing it as a speeding truck approach him.

Ye Chen was petrified with fear, as he saw the truck right before him. Approaching with a high speed.

"Bam!..."

After that everything went black. Ye Chen lay in the streets covered in puddles of blood.

"So, I got hit by a truck in the end. Huh!"

It was all Ye Chen's last thought before his consciousness blurred. He could not even feel his own body.

In his last moment, he thought about his grandpa and mother, the only two people, who have ever cared for him.

Blood leaked from the corner of his mouth, as his vision slowly started fading. His clothes were wet with blood that smelled pungent.

He looked at the sky for one last time. The sky he saw looked bleak in black and white.

In the end, his eyes became heavy. He channelled his courage and willpower trying hard to prevent his eyes from closing. But in the end, he was defeated.

"If I had the chance I would like to live a free and adventurous life!"

Saying this Ye Chen's eyes closed, as he died unwillingly, left with many regrets & desires in his heart.

The cars stopped seeing Ye Chen lay dead covered in a pool of blood. Some people rushed for an ambulance but everything, in the end, was meaningless.

[From here, starts the story of a homeless boy who died in unwillingness...]
