"What are you doing here? And why so early?" Edna asked, surprised by Pete's sudden visitation. 

"Good morning, mom." Pete greeted her as he walked towards her and her waiting arms. She pulled him into a hug. 

"Good morning," Edna greeted back, but her eyes quickly narrowed as she observed the gloomy look on his face.

"Why do you look glum? Are you okay?" 

"Yeah," Pete wryly answered and lowered himself to a seat, while Edna furrowed her brows with concern. "I'm just tired." Pete sighed. 

Observing him, Edna shook her head. "I do not believe you, Pete. Tell me what it is." She pressed and lowered herself to sit beside him. 

She looked at his face. "Come on, Pete, tell me what happened. What's wrong?" She probed. She had a gut feeling something was wrong with him because she knew her son well. 

He was honest with his eyes, just as he was with his words.
