Reminiscing (Will)

Daddy was coming home, I didn't like it when daddy came home. He was always angry when he came home.

Daddy scared me.

/"Mommy, why is daddy so angry all the time? Does he hate us?/"

/"No darling. It's just that daddy is sad and sadness does that to people sometimes, it makes them forget who they once were./" My mother answered gently.

I didn't want daddy to be sad. I wanted him to be happy, I wanted him to love me and mommy.

I heard a car pull up in the driveway. It was daddy.

/"Go upstairs to your room and don't come down. Okay Will?/" Mommy told me as she gently pushed me towards the stairs. She sounded calm but I knew she was as scared as I was.

Mommy was scared just like I was.

I wanted to protect her.

I wanted to protect mommy from daddy. But I couldn't, I was too small.

I scrambled up to my room as fast as I could. I heard daddy enter the house.
