"I would never hurt you." He shook his head, his eyes burning with gentleness and sincerity. He wasn't lying. 

Adeline could tell from his eyes, which left her all the more confused. That was a mating mark and she was sure of it. 

But since he said he didn't mate with anyone, where did it come from then? Why wasn't he giving her an explanation? 

"T-then where did that come from? I-if you didn't mate with-" 

"I can't explain." Caesar let go of her, standing up to his feet. "I really don't have an explanation for now, but once i do, I'll explain to you, okay?" 

What was he supposed to tell her? That something was wrong with her and that she was the one that mate marked him? And with what? No actual evidence?
