Upon standing in front of the CEO's office, Freda gulped down her saliva as she knocked her hands on the door, but there was no response.
Once more, she gently knocked on the door, but yet, she was met with silence.
"Co… could it be that the CEO has already arrived and… and is currently inside his office?" Freda questioned Charles in fright, scared that the CEO would get mad at her for knocking on his door when he was already inside his office.
Charles took in a deep breath as he leaned his ear closer to the door, to observe if he could hear any noise.
After a while, he slowly leans away. "I don't think he is inside the office," Charles explained with a look of relief.
He stretched his hand towards the door knot but the door was unable to open.
"You two, the CEO have taken his spare keep from me so the both of you will have to clean his office while he is around."
The person who had just spoken to them was the head of the cleaning staff.
Charles and Freda felt the urge to complain but decided to obey their superior.
They both began to wait for the CEO while on the other hand, CEO Augustines was in the passenger seat of a moving car that was heading to one of his companies.
He wore a black suit with a crisp white shirt and matching trousers, while his short black hair was neatly combed.
His brown eyes were framed by long, dark lashes, and his pink lips added to his handsome features, but his expression was cold and serious as if he were preparing for battle.
Augustine's intense gaze was fixed on the scenery outside the car window when suddenly, he sneezed, breaking his concentration with a sharp burst of sound.
'F… tun!' Augustine sneezes, using the napkin on his right hand to wipe the tip of his nose.
He took in a long deep breath, averting his gaze to his wristwatch.
"Why is the car moving like a turtle?" Augustine snapped in rage, observing that he was halfway near his destination.
The driver softly bowed his head in apology as he stepped on the car gear.
An hour later, the driver parked the car at the garage of Augustine Company.
Augustine stepped down from the car before making his way inside the company.
When he arrived at the company, he headed straight to his office where his secretary handed over his daily schedule to him.
Augustine suddenly realized that he was supposed to be at his other company that day, but he chose to ignore it and focus on his schedule.
Augustine spent the day meeting all his appointments and commitments, ensuring that everything was running smoothly.
Once satisfied with his progress, he decided to head over to his other company, known as Gyapm Corporation.
His driver accelerated the car engine, and he drove Augustine to Gyapm cooperation which was known as one of the biggest firms in the entire country of [country name].
'Exhaling!'
"What a stressful day." Augustine mused within himself as he stepped down from the car, heading straight to the company lobby.
All workers present in the lobby began to bow their heads at an angle of ninety degrees.
"Good evening CEO Augustine," They all greeted but Augustine didn't care any bit.
He kept on walking until he arrived at the personal lift that was meant for him alone.
Augustine took the lift and when he got to the upper floor, he was welcomed with different coworkers who also greeted him while bowing their heads.
Augustine ignored the staff as he headed straight to his office, swiftly opening the door with his thumb without breaking his stride
'Pfft!' Augustine sighed loudly while making his way towards his office chair.
Taking his seat, he closed his eyes to relax for some minutes when all of a sudden his cellphone began to ring.
'What the hell!' He seethed in rage within himself.
With a loud sigh, Augustine opens his eyes, withdrawing his phone from his trouser pocket as he stares at the caller ID.
'Mom.'
When Augustine saw the saved number on his phone screen, he swallowed hard and then answered swiftly, placing the phone beside his ear.
"Augustine, did you plan on killing me? Today is your birthday and you've been ignoring my calls all morning. I've been calling you since this morning, and you haven't bothered to answer." His mom questioned through the other end of the phone.
Augustine kept his mouth shut, refusing to say any words to his mother. His entire day was very hectic, and he wasn't ready for his mother lectures.
"Hello? Are you there?" His mother probed because her son's silence made her wonder if the call had been disconnected or if he was intentionally ignoring her. "Augustine, can you hear me?" She continued, hoping for a response.
Sigh…
"Yes, mom. I can hear you." Augustine nonchalantly replied.
His mother scoffed from the other end of the phone while rolling her eyes. "So you've been ignoring me this whole time, Augustine?" She paused for a moment, her voice rising with frustration. "I can't believe you'd treat me like this, especially on your birthday."
Mom, I'm sorry. I've been busy with work and didn't have my phone with me when you called earlier." He softly uttered. "Thank you for calling to wish me a happy birthday, but I'm in the middle of an important task. Can we talk more late…?"
Before Augustine could complete his sentence, the door of his office suddenly opened while the the sudden words of his mother cut him off.
"I have made a dinner reservation for you Augustine. CEO Hunter has agreed to allow his daughter to go on a date with you. So please Augustine, don't disappoint me. This is an excellent opportunity, and I know that you can charm her."
"But Mom! I… I don't want to go on any dinner reservation. I am exhausted at the moment, so please cancel that so-called dinner reservation."
Following his words, he slowly pulled his phone away from his ear, but what he heard next instantly left him dumbfounded. "Augustine, if you don't find a spouse within one week, I will be forced to disinherit you and sever our family ties. You must choose to either go on the blind dates I have arranged or find a partner on your own. If you refuse to comply, then forget that I am your mother."
She paused for a second, before taking in a deep breath. "You should know I mean my words, Augustine. I never make idle threats, so be prepared to face the consequences if you don't comply with my wishes."
Following her statement, she hung up the phone call, leaving Augustine in bafflement.
He slowly placed his phone on his office table before fixing his gaze on the young man who had a vacuum cleaner in his grip.
"You," Augustine began, his voice firm and direct as he drew the attention of Charles. "I'm making you an offer: we get married, immediately. This isn't a request, it's a demand." Augustine's spat, his gaze was piercing, his words a blunt instrument wielded with precision.
Charles scoffed. "What type of bullshit is that?" He fired back.
