The small commotion inside the village made me curious but we did not linger and listen to what had happened. We walked towards an inn and each of us took a room.
Of course, since I have no money in me, Yan Xhiling was the one who pay for the rooms.
Suddenly, Yan Xhiling pokes my back which made me frown for a bit.
I turn to look at her in confusion and saw that curious look in her eyes.
"I did not want to ask but… ever since that day when you fought against those beasts… I… I thought about your wounds. I really did not want to pry about these things, but it seems that… your body heals a bit faster than normal…" she said with a hint of embarrassment.
I seem to know what she is trying to say, but I did not want to talk about my circumstance anymore to her.
My body is that of an immortal, but I am not invincible.
I can still die, but as an immortal, I could not truly die. But that would be a pain to explain further, so I just showed a faint smile on my face.
I am grateful to her for providing me with much information these days while traveling, but my secret is my own… for now.
Maybe she thought that I am a bit angry so she showed a hint of worry in her eyes as she waved her hands and tried to explain herself.
"Do not… misunderstand what I mean… I'm… I'm just curious." She muttered.
I just nod my head and look at the door next to me.
At this time, we have already arrived in our rooms.
"Have a nice rest… Big sister Xhiling…" I said as I enter the room.
I could see a hint of annoyance in her eyes as she pouted when I closed the door.
The room is a bit small and cozy. I seem to feel a hint of familiarity but at the same time confusion. I seem to see a different image in my mind when looking at the small room.
I heaved a helpless sight and quickly sit on the bed checking its softness.
"Hmm… It is not as soft as clouds…" I blurted out.
I suddenly became confused upon uttering those words as I did not know where that thought came from.
I did not have time to think as I just decided to rest.
I took off my outer cloth which Big sister Xhiling has given to me.
I look at my bare body at my reflection in front of me.
"The healing of my wounds has become faster and it left no scar…" I muttered while checking my upper body.
I decided to sleep for a while as it has been many days since I have such a peaceful experience.
While in a deep sleep, something suddenly appears in my mind.
"Partial memory has been fully recovered…"
I did not know what it means, but when something seems to have been injected into my brain, all I could do was frown and accept them.
"Fei… So that is my name…"
I then saw a portion of memory that seems to belong to me. But these memories are a bit bloody and cruel.
I could see myself fighting against some beasts, living in a forest, and surviving through harsh conditions.
It was truly a dangerous situation and those people in uniform that I am seeing called it… training.
"I… I am a well-trained soldier… Just like big sister Xhiling…" I now know a part of my identity.
Though I already have an idea of this, as I woke up on a battlefield and all those fighting techniques I know, I still find it hard to believe that as a child, I was actually sent to war by the kingdom of Feshin.
I was musing when suddenly I was woken by some commotion outside the window.
I reacted by instinct and quickly woke up then moved to the side of the window.
I peek out and look at the street.
What I saw next made the hair on my back stand on end.
"The black mist…" I muttered.
Then I saw my subconscious mind showing some information.
"Warning! Warning! Toxic gas detected… Exposure to the gas would cause paralysis."
As I read the words, I thought of one of the training I had. It was at that time when a group of us was exposed to some kind of grayish gas.
What I felt in my body was dread and pain and I did not want to experience such a thing again in my life.
After that exposure, they injected something into my body which would make me somewhat immune to most such gases.
As I observed more, I realized that this same mist was the one I saw in that forest at that time.
"How did this mist arrive in this place?" I thought.
Suddenly, someone barges inside my room.
"We have to live in this place… That black mist is not something we can fight against…" Yan Xhiling said while showing panic in her eyes.
"Big Sister… Do you know what that thing is?" I asked.
"Yes… and no… That black mist has caused a lot of people to die without a corpse." She explained.
"Then it would be better to hide in here… At least here we are safe."
"No… What I am afraid of is not just the black mist. It's what's inside that black mist." She said feeling a bit anxious.
"If we move now, then we would still be enclosed inside the black mist, right?"
She turned silent, but before she could say anything we heard the sound of fighting below.
Then what startled us is the growling sound that seem to come from some beast.
"Damn it! I think it's too late now…" She gritted her teeth in frustration.
I did not dally anymore and quickly grabbed the blade on the table.
This blade was also given to me by Big sister Xhiling.
She said that my old sword is already broken, so she gave it to me.
After preparing ourselves for battle, we both walk to the corridor and noticed that the black mist has already reached the tavern of the inn.
The thick smell of blood is everywhere and the warning sign in my subconscious mind is already blaring.
I wanted to walk back, but remember that no matter what happens I would still not die. So I gritted my teeth and walked beside Big Sister Xhiling.
She quickly grabbed something from inside her backpack and puts it on.
"If you faint, I promise to carry you…" she said while a weird mask on her face.
I just nod my head and the both of us quickly enter the black mist.
Soon, I noticed the alarm turning into something else.
"Toxic elements have entered the body… refining…"
I did not know what it is doing, but I feel a numbing sensation starting to affect my limbs.
At that time, I knew that I am going to faint as my vision began to spin.
But before I even fall, I felt a hand grabbing my arm.
"Stay with me, little brother…" Big sister Xhiling's voice seems to recover a part of my mind.
Suddenly, as I closed my eyes, I noticed another piece of information.
"Finished analyzing and refining… The body now has partially high immunity to such toxic elements…"
As I read those words, I could now feel my body recovering.
However, I soon felt a pang of pain hitting my chest.
Then my body began flying like a cannonball.
As I hit the wall, I could not help but spew a mouthful of blood. I knew that some of my internal organs were damaged.
Roar!!!
A loud growl echoed in the darkness. For some reason, I am actually limited to seeing anything inside this dark mist even with my unique sight.
All I have is just around a meter of sight around me.
I could see an unconscious figure lying beside me.
I knew that the both of us were sent flying by that roaring beast.
Looking at her, she seems to have not suffered any wounds. It seems that I was the one who got hit as my shirt is now all torn apart and a long gash could be seen on my chest.
The pain suddenly kicks in and I grimace as my body quickly recovers.
Suddenly, three long claws appear inside my small sight range.
As soon as those claws appear, everything around me suddenly slowed down.
I did not hesitate to grab the knife on the ground while dodging those long claws.
Swoosh!!!
It passes near my head as I brandish the knife in my hand.
Without hesitation, I slice the thick arm which grazed above my head. I could feel my small knife penetrating the thick fur of that arm and hitting its bone.
The knife might look small, but I knew that it is special. The reason for this is that I noticed the energy coming from the knife's blade.
I did not have time to think as the wounded beast retracts its arm. But before I could react, I noticed something moving within the black mist.
Those are small beasts and what followed their movement is the loud cry of the beast.
Chi! Chi! Chi!
Hearing those sounds made my heart startled.
I knew that even with my ability, those small things would not let me off.
Without hesitation, I grabbed the unconscious body of Big sister Xhiling and quickly went back the way we came.
Behind me, I could tell the black mist was already following like the hands of death wanting to grab its escaping prey.
As soon as I get out of the dark mist, I could see already my path.
I have to quickly get out of the range of the black mist and the only way is to the roof.
With that in mind, I quickly turn to my room and enter it without hesitation.
Then I kick the window as I scale the walls while bringing Big Sister Xhiling with me to the roof of the building.
But then… my expression changes. I could feel something horrible watching me from within the dark mist.
