"Have a seat." Rhys said as he walked to the kitchen and poured them a glass of wine.
"What are you doing here, Pearl?" He asked, handing her the glass.
"Honestly, I had the driver bring me up here for a drive. Was feeling a little nostalgic, I guess." She said honestly.
"Ah, I see. And it has nothing to do with our meeting Thursday?" He asked.
"No. But we can discuss it if you'd like." She said, sipping her wine. She looked around and saw that the house hadn't changed at all. He must not come here regularly, she thought.
"I need to see the screenplay. I know I'm not going to be the hero, I don't expect that. I know I was a terrible person to you and it's not that I don't deserve to be slammed but I'm hoping it's not too harsh." He said.
"After what happened with Erik, you look like a damn Saint." Pearl said.
"I'm sorry about all of that. About what you went through. About what I put you through. You never deserved that. And I acted like a total dick after we broke up because I was hurt. Destroyed, honestly. And I was too immature to handle it well." He said, putting his head down.
"I loved you. Please don't ever get that part confused." He said.
"I know. I know that you did, in the way you could. It wasn't all bad, Rhys." She said.
"Good. That really makes me feel better knowing that." He said. She knew he had tired to make her happy. And they had some great times together. It was important to remember it all, when looking back. It helped with forgiveness. With healing.
"Are you here often?" She asked.
"Lately I have been. I was back home with my family for awhile. I have been here for about a month or so." He said.
"How is your family?" Pearl asked.
"They have some things they are working out. But they are good." He said. Pearl told him she was happy to hear it.
"I should be going. Thank you for the drink." Pearl said, standing up.
"Of course. Come by anytime." He said.
He was still single. And had thrown himself into a sort of isolation after the trial. She knew he was excited about the new project as well as apprehensive. They were hoping he would be involved and positive about it all. It was work and he hadn't done that in awhile.
"I've been working on me. Going to therapy, taking some much deserved time off. So anytime you want to stop by for a visit, let me know." He said, opening the door. Pearl nodded and Jim opened the limo door.
"Pearl. One more thing." He said. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything." He said. "I mean it."
"I forgive you." She said, smiling. He smiled back and seemed relieved. She got into the car and Jim closed the door. She watched him wave to her as the car pulled away. Perhaps, she thought, closure wasn't so overrated after all.
