章節 3: Confrontation

Victor swung himself onto the stallion, his muscles tensing as he tried to steady himself on the strange creature.

The sensation was entirely new to him - the horse's powerful muscles rippled beneath him, its coat was silky against his palm, and the scent of its energy was crisp and pure.

His body swayed precariously, and maintaining balance was a struggle. Each stride of the stallion sent jolts through him, threatening to throw him off.

It was a grueling half an hour of trial and error, but eventually, he found his rhythm, syncing his movements with the stallion's.

"Time to return and put this creature to good use," a grin spread across Victor's face.

Simultaneously, Freya, Alex, and a few Magus stood their ground against a colossal wolf bathed in an ominous dark-purple glow.

Alex's frown deepened, his gaze darting around the battleground. The government had promised to bring some S-class Magus, but all they had were a handful of A-class, including himself, with the rest being B and C-class.

The monstrous wolf, towering over them at a staggering 30 feet, was easily three times the size of an elephant. Its form was distorted by a strange gravitational field, making it difficult to approach.

"Stay sharp, everyone! We can't predict what this monster will do!" The stern voice of a armored man echoed across the field, causing everyone to tighten their grips on their weapons.

They had engaged the giant wolf for thirty minutes, managing only to inflict minor injuries.

As they watched the creature draw a breath, dark-purple energy pooling in its maw, their resolve hardened.

Suddenly, it released the concentrated energy, which shot forth like a laser beam.

Boom!

With a deafening boom, the energy impacted the ground, causing a massive explosion. Flames roared to life, sending plumes of thick, black smoke spiraling into the sky.

The aftermath was akin to a nuclear blast site - a 200-meter radius of charred earth, with the once lush forest reduced to smoldering ashes.

"Cough! Is everyone alright?" The armored man's voice was rough with smoke and concern as he looked around at his fellow Magus.

"Anri's down! She took the brunt of the explosion!" A shout rang out, cutting through the confusion.

At this, everyone rushed over to the fallen warrior. The woman, Anri, was cradled in the arms of a fellow Magus, her armor in tatters.

"This is bad. Anri's our only healer. Without her..." The words trailed off, but the implication hung heavily in the air.

Anxiety rippled through the group, their faces tight with worry and fear.

"What are we supposed to do now?"

"Damn it, the government really screwed us over on this one. Did they even bother to gauge the strength of this thing? We're all going to get slaughtered at this rate."

"If I knew it was going to be like this, I never would've signed up for this Raid!"

Grimaces and bitter complaints filled the air as the reality of the situation sunk in. The monster was far more powerful than any of them had anticipated - a beast of country-level threat that demanded the attention of S-class Magus.

Just as despair threatened to take hold, the distant sound of battle pierced the air.

"Hold on... Do you hear that?" someone asked, straining to hear over the din of the aftermath.

All eyes turned toward the source of the noise. Through the lingering haze of smoke, they could barely make out the silhouette of a figure locked in combat with the giant wolf.

"Is that... Alex and Freya?!"

The recognition sparked hope in the hearts of the watching Magus. Alex and Freya were notorious for their unique powers.

"We have to help them!"

"With what, exactly? Look at them - they're in a league of their own."

The one who said fell silent at the rebuke, watching the fight with a mix of awe and resignation.

Alex had transformed into a massive energy mecha, matching the wolf in size.

His fist clenched with a tangible will, crashed into the wolf's skull with a resounding bang, sending it sprawling.

Meanwhile, Freya was a radiant figure in the sky, her back adorned with golden wings that shimmered in the dim light. Her golden aura amplified her regal bearing, and the golden sword in her hand added an imposing edge to her appearance.

With an eagle-eyed focus, she spotted the beast's weak point. Clutching her sword tightly, she closed her eyes, gathering her strength.

In the next moment, her eyes flashed open.

"Yaaaaah!" With a powerful yell, Freya hurled her sword at the monster.

As if responding to her cry, the sword transformed into a beam of light, its size magnifying exponentially. The air roared as the sword cut through it, the sound echoing like thunder.

With a resounding crash, the giant sword impaled the wolf.

"Aaaarrrgh!" The beast's pained roar filled the air, a wave of potent energy rolling off it in response.

Alex didn't waste a second. He propelled himself into the air, powered by the energy mecha, until he seemed to brush the fringes of outer space. At that height, the mecha dissipated, leaving him hovering in the ether.

From this elevated perspective, the monstrous wolf was but a speck on the ground.

Raising his hand, he concentrated, calling forth a massive ball of energy. The energy solidified into a boulder before him, an ominous sight against the backdrop of the starlit sky.

Closing his eyes, he touched the boulder. A bright red glow suffused it, pulsating ominously. Moments later, his eyes flickered open and the boulder plummeted towards the earth.

A brilliant light streaked across the night sky, a glaring contrast to the serene darkness. It was Alex's meteor attack.

The echoing roar of the descending meteor filled the air, drawing shocked stares from the watching Magus.

"Take cover!" The man in armor shouted, his voice barely audible over the thunderous noise.

Boom!

Everyone scrambled for safety as the meteor collided with the giant wolf, erupting into an enormous explosion.

Flames engulfed the vicinity, thick smoke billowing into the sky. The once lush forest was now a charred wasteland, a gaping crater marking the impact site.

Everyone stood in stunned silence, awe and disbelief etched on their faces. They had just witnessed a human summoning a meteor, a feat only known to be possible for S-class Magus. Yet, Alex was just an A-class Magus.

With the last remnants of his strength, Alex descended to the ground. Sweat streaked down his face and his body sagged with exhaustion.

Creating a meteor was no small feat, and it had drained nearly all his energy.

With a grim expression, he peered into the dense smoke, hoping the beast was vanquished.

The smoke lingered stubbornly, obscuring his view. But as he strained his eyes, he noticed a faint red glow emanating from within the smoke.

His eyes widened in alarm, and he hurriedly conjured an energy shield. But it was too late.

A blast of energy shot out from the smoke, smashing through the shield and slamming into Alex.

Boom!

He was hurled back, crashing into a nearby tree. His clothes were singed, and burns marred his skin. The pain was overwhelming, causing him to black out.

"Alex!" Freya's voice echoed through the clearing.

Rushing to his side, she frantically assessed his injuries. Her heart pounded in her chest as she saw him unconscious.

Without wasting a moment, she activated her power, a warm golden light enveloping Alex as she channeled her healing energy.

"Grrrgh!"

But the growl behind her made her blood run cold. Turning around, she saw the giant wolf rising to its feet, seemingly unharmed by the meteor strike.
