Just as they reached the stairwell, his spider-sense tingles. He hears steps nearing.
"Go inside that room! Get out of here!" Peter hisses to the prisoners, urging them to escape to the nearest door on their right. They start moving towards it just as a group of armed guards appear at the top of the stairs, their weapons trained on Peter and the freed prisoners. Without hesitation, Peter sprang into action, using his agility to dodge bullets and incapacitate the guards, taking all the attention away from the others.
Gunfire echoes through the stairwell as Peter fights off the guards; his movements are fluid and precise. He knows he must buy enough time for the prisoners to escape safely.
His movements are swift and precise, a skilled dance of evasion and attack as he fights to protect the defenseless prisoners while ensuring none of them are harmed in the crossfire. The guards are no match for his spider-like reflexes and strength, and soon, they lay defeated at his feet.
Breathing heavily, Peter turns to check on the freed prisoners, making sure they are unharmed. They look at him with awe and gratitude, their fear slowly fading as they realize they are safe.
"Thank you," one of them whispers, their voice trembling with emotion.
Peter nods, offering them a reassuring smile that they can see thanks to the expressive eyes of his suit before turning his attention back to the task at hand. He knows they must leave this place quickly before more guards arrive. So, grabbing one gun, he leads the group toward the nearest exit, watching for any sign of danger.
As they reach the main entrance, Peter hears the sound of approaching reinforcements. Time is running out. With quick thinking, he ushers the prisoners outside, urging them to run to safety down the stairs where Edith tells him that it leads towards the exit. The adrenaline is pumping through his veins as he keeps a close eye out for any other potential threats. He can hear the distant sound of alarms blaring throughout the facility, signaling chaos and confusion among their captors.
He knows they're still near the center of the city. Even if the noises couldn't escape when inside, thanks to the soundproofing, now that they're outside, everyone will be able to soon hear the shootings.
With that in mind, as they reach the ground floor, he alerts the others that there will be some noise. They seem confused at first, but that confusion is soon swept away as he points to the gun in his hand. He then pushes open the heavy metal doors leading outside. Fresh air fills his lungs as he ushers the prisoners into the open, their eyes wide with fear and relief.
They are not outside the base yet but still out in the open.
When he shoots the gun he grabbed earlier, only some of them flinch, startled. It's better to do so as he hopes it will help the notice he made Edith send to the police as soon as he left Wade.
"Follow me," he says as he leads them to a security post where the guards are webbed. This post can be a safe location for regrouping and waiting for help.
The prisoners follow Peter's lead, even if he leads them inside again; their trust in him grows as they see him take charge and handle the situation with a skill born out of practice. As they reach the security post, Peter quickly webs up the guards leading to there, not giving them a chance to even retaliate to prevent any interference and ensure their temporary safety.
The group huddles inside the post, their hearts still racing from the adrenaline of their daring escape. Peter's mind races as he tries to plan their next move. He knows they must wait for the authorities to arrive and take over the situation, but they can't stay in the security post for long without drawing more attention.
With his back against the door, his spider-sense remains on high alert, anticipating any potential threat that may come their way; his thoughts flicker to Wade and the uncertain fate of his friend. He hopes that Edith has been able to send the police to rescue him in time.
The rescued individuals looked at Peter with a newfound trust and gratitude. Some whispered amongst themselves, expressing their disbelief at being saved by a masked hero. Peter couldn't help but feel a sense of fulfillment, knowing that he had made a difference in their lives.
Suddenly, a loud crash reverberates through the facility, causing the rescued prisoners to jump in fear. Peter's spider sense goes wild, warning him of an imminent threat. Without hesitation, he ushers everyone to stay low and quiet as he cautiously approaches the entrance of the security post.
Peeking outside, Peter spots a group of heavily armed guards storming towards their location. The leader, a sinister figure with a cruel smirk, barks out orders to search the area thoroughly.
Knowing they have been discovered, Peter knows they need to act fast. He quickly formulates a plan in his mind, assessing the capabilities of the rescued prisoners and the facility's layout.
"We need to move," Peter urgently whispers to the group. Follow me and stay close. We have to find another way out."
Gripping his web shooters tightly, Peter leads the prisoners through winding corridors and hidden passageways, evading the patrols thanks to Edith. They're almost on the other side of the facility. The sounds of steps becoming far away. He can't help but feel a momentary relief. However, his moment of satisfaction is short-lived as a sudden explosion rocks the facility, sending shockwaves through the walls. The ground trembled beneath them, and debris rained down as alarms blared with increased urgency. Peter's mind races, his spider sense screaming at him to move, to act quickly.
"We need to get out of here, now!" Peter shouts over the chaos, ushering the freed prisoners out of the security post and into the dimly lit corridors. Smoke billows around them, obscuring their vision and choking their lungs. The situation has escalated far beyond what Peter had anticipated.
He keeps thinking about Wade as he leads the group through the crumbling corridors, but Edith hasn't said anything yet, so Peter tries to navigate a path towards safety. The walls groan with the strain of the explosion, threatening to collapse at any moment, and as they stumbled through the wreckage, faint light came from the path that leads to the outside of this damned base.
He pushed it open just in time to hear the sirens nearing close.
The prisoners start to relax, their fear slowly dissipating as they realize they are finally safe from their captors. Peter watches the surroundings, ensuring no further danger lurks nearby as he waits for the police. When the lights of their cars are near, he speaks.
"I will be webbing the other guards inside to make the work of the police easier. You wait here, okay?"
He doesn't mention Wade, and he doesn't wait for their answers. He climbs the walls and disappears into the building again, swiftly swinging back into the crumbling facility, determined to find Wade and ensure his friend's safety. The smoke-filled corridors are disorienting, but his spider sense guides him toward where he last saw Wade. As he navigates through the chaos, dodging falling debris and avoiding pockets of fire, his heart races with worry for his friend.
The smoke and chaos make it difficult to see, but he presses on, determined to find him. A sense of dread grips him as he nears the room where Wade is being held. The door is blown off its hinges, and debris is scattered everywhere.
The weight of uncertainty settles heavily on Peter's shoulders as he processes the information.
