章節 4: Monster
"You can't go to this place" Sela Blue stopped him from entering the building.
"What? Why?" Joesh asked, confused as to why she was preventing him from entering.
"This place is not good for you! There is nothing but negative energy here! More than you can imagine! Once you enter this place, the monster inside will attack you without a single hesitation," She warned and stood in front of him.
Joesh looked at the casino, he couldn't see the negative energy that she was talking about but could guess what she was trying to say, many people's desires were dead here, many people's lives were ruined here... so, of course, there would be negative energy and monsters.
"But… this is what I want before I die! I want to take a risk…" He tried to convince her, he didn't want to die as a coward, at least before he die, he wanted to be someone who lost 900,000 dollars.
Sela Blue regarded Joesh with a solemn expression. She did not want him to enter the building, not because she couldn't protect him, but because of the monsters that lurked inside. "Okay," she relented, "but you have to hold my hand the whole time."
"That is…" Joesh's face went blank for a moment, but he quickly composed himself and replied with a happy tone, "Hehe, of course!!"
She was not at all happy about that, but that was the only thing she could do to take the Lightning Curse Core inside him.
They held hands, and a chill ran down Joesh's spine. He felt grateful to be alive and thrilled at the thought of dying.
"Stop that creepy smile," Sela Blue said with a disgusted face.
"Hehe" Joesh couldn't help but smile even more as they entered the casino. As they entered, they were greeted by a woman, and she took them to the third floor, where there were slot machines, cards, table games, sportsbooks, and more.
"I first want to play that," he said and walked to the table where they were playing Roulette.
"Do you know how to play that?" Sela Blue asked.
"Hmm, somewhat… I used to play online with guest accounts without paying, so I know a little. But I don't know how it works in real life"
Everyone at the table stopped playing and looked at Sela Blue, who had just walked toward them.
"Can I join?" Joesh asked with a smile, and that was when they noticed Joesh, who had no presence besides Sela Blue.
They all nodded and told him to wait till their match ended.
After some time, it was finished. Joesh watched everything carefully and felt it was the same as he played, but with a little change.
"Please exchange your money for coins, sir," a woman came to Joesh and said to him.
"Here, I want coins worth 5,000 dollars," he said and gave him the black card.
"Ohh" other players noticed it and smiled, they felt they got a good rookie who they could milk.
"As you wish, sir."
After some time, she brought some hundreds of red, green, and blue coins and explained how much they were worth.
"Let our game begin," Joesh said with a smile.
Five people started to bet and Joesh also joined them.
Sela Blue just watched Joesh play, as he had already lost 100 dollars in the first game.
"Yess!" Joesh won the second match on even numbers. But His hands and back were covered with sweat, his heart was running faster than a horse, and slowly his expression began to change…
Sela Blue noticed it and patted his shoulder.
Joesh took a deep breath, looked at her, and said, "Thanks." He was struggling, the tension was unbearable for him...
He wanted to play the next game, but his mind was telling him to leave that place. He closed his eyes and thought, "If I don't play it, I will die as a coward."
After taking a deep breath, he started betting. Every game was a chance for him to overcome the barrier that had held him back since childhood. He forgot about money and focused solely on winning. As the games progressed, Joesh's confidence grew. Despite losing all his coins, he remained determined to play every betting game in the casino.
Sela Blue stood beside him and noticed the changes in Joesh as he played game after game. His winning ratio also increased with time.
'Does he have any innate ability in him?' she thought. She could tell that Joesh was fighting head-to-head with his fears. Since he had money and was going to die, he focused on only one thing.
Joesh had a smile on his face, feeling a new sense of confidence and self-assurance that he had never felt before.
"If this continues... I might become addicted to gambling," Joesh said in a playful manner. After four hours of playing, he had lost almost fifty thousand dollars but won sixty thousand dollars, resulting in a profit of ten thousand dollars. Ten thousand dollars! That wasn't something he could have imagined.
"Sela Blue-san, I think I've had enough," Joesh said and stood up all of a sudden.
"Why? You still have some time."
"No, I am already feeling better; if I play anymore, I will turn into my dad, and I don't want that, I just want to become the person I hoped to become, and I am already one step closer to it. Anymore... I don't need it" he said with a satisfied smile. He was living the best life right now.
Sela Blue nodded and they both started to walk out of the casino.
"Sela Blue-san, how about going to a big restaurant and having some dinner?" he asked, knowing she probably wouldn't agree, but he wanted to ask anyway.
"Okay" she didn't mind that, she felt it was maybe one of his wishes.
"Yahoo!!!" he jumped happily, but suddenly his body felt heavy. "Wha—"
Sela Blue was already prepared to attack. A red light covered her palm as she slapped the monster that was on top of Joesh.
BOOM.
A few steps away from them, standing at a height of no less than four feet, the intimidating monster boasted a formidable presence. Its body was entirely shrouded in a coarse, tangled coat of fur that displayed a haphazard blend of brown and black hues. The thick fur seems to lend the creature an air of savagery, evoking the image of a beast that has roamed the earth since the time of primeval.
"What the hell is that?" Joesh saw that beast as every single hair on his body stood up.
"A monster"
Sela Blue pulled Joesh aside and jumped a few steps back. "A very strong one at that."
Joesh swallowed his saliva in terror.
"Now it ate every monster inside this building and came for us."
"This isn't the real world, right?" Joesh asked nervously as he looked around.
"No, it pulled us into Rough World, monsters will not attack in the real world unless they want to die."
ROAR.
That monster dashed towards them and punched Sela Blue with its big fist. Joesh noticed that it didn't do any damage to her.
"You might be strong, but you should not have messed with me," she smiled and made a sign with both hands, leaving Joesh.
"Hey!!" Joesh, who was panicked, held her shoulder and ran behind her.
That monster noticed the energy that was gathering in front of Sela Blue's hands and moved back, making a sign with its hands.
'They both made signs… What does this do?' Joesh couldn't see what was happening, he was only able to see them but not their power.
"I heard about you before, Hunger Monster" Sela Blue said with a smile as she talked with the monster.
"Oh… there are still some people who know me?" a rough voice came from inside the monster…
