章節 165: Raptors
The monsters quickly swarmed the underground hall. If anyone kept watch on the hole they entered from, they would see that the monsters still continued to pile in.
A never ending line of black beasts marched along the ceiling, most of which had their gaze locked on one single target.
Once the beasts positioned themselves above her, they dropped.
Each moment, one more beast rained down on top of her. Willow constantly swung her hammer, her arms rotated around her joints like a well oiled cog in a machine.
Her rhythmic motion of swinging her hammer from side to side created an almost impenetrable defense, at least to the monsters currently attacking.
Though, Willow wasn't the only one locked in combat.
After cutting part of his forearm, Emile stepped forward into the burst of light and vanished from his place in the hall.
He appeared quite a distance away, on the other end of the hall, his sword already drenched in blood as he pulled it from one of the beast's chests.

Emile's soul naturally absorbed the essence that burst from the raptor's corpse, but Emile was far too busy to recognize the words embedded in his brain.
He flipped his sword over, its sharp edge facing out, then slashed backwards. Without even seeing his target, his sword ran across the body of a raptor and deflected its momentum away from him.
The beast crashed into the ground beside him and before it could recuperate, Emile's scimitar pierced its back and ran through its heart.
The creature's body faded into light and Emile's sword was free, with it he intercepted the open jaw of a collapsing beast. The raptor collapsed onto him, falling from the ceiling.
Emile's sword locked its jaw in place, angled up to prevent the beast from closing its maw. Immediately, the raptor began to grind his sword away, shifting its hundreds of tiny teeth back and forth, tearing even the metal apart.
Emile didn't have many options, he couldn't pull his sword free, the raptor's jaw was too powerful.
So instead he canceled his sword's manifestation and it immediately returned to a mass of essence. The raptor's jaw slammed shut as it snarled at Emile.
Emile clenched his fist, he concentrated on his soul core and felt the theoretical valve that controlled the release of essence. Willing it open, a tsunami of essence flooded Emile's veins.
He felt his body burn up, his muscles tightened and expanded, but all way too fast for his body to cope with. At that moment, Emile felt his limbs being pulled apart from the inside out.
He pooled as much essence as he could into his arm, distributing it between his bicep, tricep, forearm, and wrist before releasing all the pent up energy at once.
His fist exploded forward and collided with the cheek of the beast. Instantly, Emile felt his hand sink into the raptor's cheek.
He felt its bones snap in half, its teeth shatter and displace as his fist ripped and tore through the raptor's maw.
Then, the essence in Emile's body was gone, sucked dry by that one attack. But the moment his essence depleted and the velocity behind his punch faded, that didn't affect the raptor's own speed.
The raptor's skull shattered, burst apart from a tooth that ricocheted into its brain and pierced its skull. Then the beast flew back, vanishing before Emile's eyes and reappearing across the room, crippled and defeated.

Momentarily safe, Emile resummoned his scimitar and brandished it to his side. He looked around the hall and narrowed his eyes on a raptor sneaking around Blood.
Without hesitating, Emile fueled his charm and flashed across the room. By the time the light from his amulet faded, his sword was already impaled in the creature's chest.
Meanwhile, Blood immediately noticed Spright's arrival and so decided to split his attention elsewhere. With Spright's momentary protection, Blood closed his eyes and spread his authority around the hall.
With his hands raised, his fingers subtly flicked the air, moving in tandem with the flow of battle. Like a conductor from hell, Blood felt the flow of blood within the hall.
He pulled his finger up and on the back wall of the hall a puddle of blood shot up, forming a large liquid ball that hovered in the air.
Slowly, Blood manipulated more and more of these puddles until countless orbs of crimson blood floated around the hall.
Blood brought his hands together and the orbs in the hall followed suit, hovering across the battlefield and joining in the center of the hall, above Willow and her slaughter.
Opening his eyes, Blood clenched his hands into fists and the massive orb of blood imploded.
Hundreds of shards of crystal exploded out. They flew through the hall like locusts, obliterating anything in their path.
The crystal shards razed the raptor's to the ground, mincing their bodies apart into multiple pieces before they inevitably returned to essence.
Suddenly, silence momentarily returned to the great hall.
Emile wiped some sweat off his brow and looked over at Willow. The woman adorned her typical golden armor, but at this moment it was more red than gold.
Blood seeped into the cracks, painting her skin along with her armor. She pushed open her visor and inhaled a huge gush of air.
With her visor open, she lifted her hammer and aimed it up. The behemoth beast glared at her and raised its own hammer in the form of its trunk.
With one final roar, shaking the walls of the hall and collapsing the final few bridges, the monster stepped off the edge and plummeted into the hall.
It landed on all fours, but its impact crushed the stone floor and shattered the loose stone into sand.
Emile, Willow, and Blood already began preparing for the fight. Meanwhile, Roy seemed to have vanished.
Emile looked around the hall, but he couldn't find the small boy he was used to seeing.
He cast the thought from his mind. He needed to focus on the monster before him, he could find Roy later.
