I sat on the couch, arms crossed, staring at the screen in front of me with a mixture of annoyance and disbelief. How had we gone from talking about work Lydia practically harassing me about some endless list of tasks to playing video games in the middle of my living room?

Not just any video game either, but some chaotic first-person shooter where everyone was running around aimlessly, shooting each other with ridiculous weapons. I didn't even know how I got roped into this. I blame Lydia.

Elena sat beside me, focused, her hands gripping the controller like a pro, eyes glued to the screen.

Every once in a while, she'd let out this little victorious laugh when she took someone out—usually me or Lydia—making the whole situation even worse. 

I wasn't a sore loser. Really, I wasn't. But I also wasn't used to being this bad at something, especially not in front of Elena.
