章節 1: Chapter 1 Unexpected Rebirth

What's the most important thing in life?

Money? Power?

Neither. The most important thing is people.

Family. Loved ones.

In the heart of the city, at Central Hospital:

"Evan, I love you... I've always loved you... I don't want to die... I don't want to leave you. If there's a next life, will you marry me?"

Beep. Beep.

The sharp, monotonous sound of the machines echoed through the emergency room.

Evan stood frozen, tears streaming uncontrollably as he stared at Nia's lifeless body. She was gone.

Three years ago, when his mother passed away while he was abroad, Evan felt as though his world had been plunged into endless darkness. Since then, Nia had been his only light—a sweet, innocent girl who stood by his side when he thought he had nothing left.

Her kindness, her unwavering support, and her gentle smiles had slowly healed him. But Evan never dared to confess his feelings, afraid that rejection would ruin the friendship they had.

And now, it was too late.

Her last words rang in his ears, a haunting echo of the love she had kept hidden.

Evan hated himself.

He hated that he hadn't noticed sooner.

He hated that he'd been too afraid to tell her how he felt.

One memory after another surfaced, a cruel reminder of what he had lost:

"Evan, remember to wear a jacket—it's getting colder."

"Evan, staying up late is bad for your health. Go home and rest!"

"Evan, do you think I look nice today?"

Evan clenched his fists. Regret tore through him, leaving him shattered.

The accident replayed in his mind like a nightmare.

Just half an hour ago, on a business trip, their car had broken down. They were stepping out to check it when a truck came hurtling toward them. In that instant, Nia pushed Evan out of the way.

She had saved him at the cost of her own life.

Her final words were filled with pain, regret, and love. Those emotions crushed him, leaving him hollow.

Trembling, Evan walked to the operating table and gently touched her cold, lifeless face. Tears blurred his vision.

"Nia, wait for me. I'll be with you soon."

With that, he lay beside her, clutching her hand. His other hand reached for the scalpel on the table. Without hesitation, he plunged it into his chest.

Darkness consumed him.

"Before great responsibility is entrusted to a person, they must first endure hardship, physical and emotional trials, hunger, and doubt... only then can their heart be tested and their abilities sharpened."

Evan jolted awake to the sound of a voice reading aloud. Pain throbbed in his head. His eyes fluttered open, and the blurry image of a senior classroom slowly came into focus.

He was alive.

But how?

His gaze darted to the calendar on the wall: March 18, 2010.

This was the year he was 17.

Evan's heart raced. He recognized the familiar faces around him—the friends, the teacher, the classroom. It was all exactly as he remembered.

He had been reborn.

A second chance.

Joy surged through him. He was back in time, ten years before he had lost Nia. They wouldn't meet until 2015, which meant he had five years to prepare. Five years to make sure he wouldn't lose her again.

"Evan!"

The stern voice of Dr. Clark snapped him back to the present. The teacher glared at him, slamming his hand on the desk.

"Sleeping in class again?! Senior year is not a joke! If you don't care about your future, why are you even here?!"

Evan ignored the outburst, his mind still reeling from the revelation. He looked around the room, his gaze steady and composed.

Dr. Clark mistook his calm demeanor for defiance, and his face turned red with rage.

"That's it! You're going to the principal's office. Let's see if you can sleep through expulsion!"

Evan stood slowly, his expression unreadable. He walked to the door, paused, and turned back.

"Let's go," he said quietly.

The class fell silent, stunned.

Principal's Office

Evan stood beside a seething Dr. Clark, their contrasting demeanors stark. While the teacher ranted about Evan's misdeeds—skipping classes, fighting, sleeping in lectures—Evan remained calm, his thoughts elsewhere.

Principal Stevens sighed. "Mr. Clark, expelling a student for this isn't reasonable."

"Not reasonable?" Dr. Clark countered, his voice rising. "This month alone, he's been warned multiple times! The rules are clear!"

Before the argument could escalate, the door burst open. A woman hurried in, her face both worried and determined.

"Mrs. Turner," Principal Stevens greeted her.

Evan's heart clenched at the sight of his mother. Tears welled in his eyes as he stepped forward and wrapped her in a tight embrace.

"Mom…"

She froze, startled. It had been years since Evan had hugged her. The warmth of his arms was almost too much to bear.

"Evan?" she whispered.

"It's okay, Mom," he said softly.

Mrs. Turner turned to the principal, her voice steady. "Evan deserves a chance. Please, don't expel him."

"Mom," Evan interjected, stepping back. His voice was calm but resolute.

"They're right. I've broken the rules, and I need to face the consequences."

"Evan—"

He smiled faintly, his gaze distant.

"Don't worry. I've made up my mind. I'll transfer schools."

Mrs. Turner stared at him, her shock mirrored by the others in the room.

Evan turned toward the window, the sunlight streaming through.

A second chance. This time, he would cherish it. He would protect Nia. No matter what.
