Gerald was stunned. His eyes were wide open, and his face paled as if he had seen the most gruesome sight of his life. And to a certain extent, he did! 

Not only because Sylvia had lost all the glow on her face, but her skin also looked wrinkled and her hair grey. Dark circles covered her eyes, and her once pink, plump lips were chaffed and dry like the desert.

She looked weak and old. 

But also because Gerald hadn't expected that something like this would ever happen to her.

Sylvia belonged to the Ibsen family of magicians, one of the very few oldest families whose trace went back to more than thousands of years. No wonder, the fading bond with the family had affected her so greatly.

She stood frozen, speechless and extremely humiliated. Her tired eyes were filled with tears that spoke volumes about what her mind was unable to let out.
