(A street in Verona. ROMEO and JULIET are walking hand in hand)
ROMEO: Oh, my love, the sun doth shine so bright Upon thy face, it doth create a sight That makes mine eyes forget all else around And all the world but thee, my love, astound.
JULIET: My sweet Romeo, thy words do make me blush Thy love, like mine, doth make my heart a rush I feel so blessed to have thee by my side And all my love for thee, I shall not hide.
(Enter TYBALT)
TYBALT: Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou here? I thought thou wert a Montague, a foe to cheer. What brings thee to these streets of Capulet? Art thou come to mock and make jest?
ROMEO: I am here, Tybalt, but not for strife For I have wed the fairest flower in life My love for Juliet doth know no bounds And I am here to walk these streets around.
TYBALT: Thou speakest of my cousin, my kin And yet thou comest here with such a grin I will not let thee walk these streets in peace And will not let thy love for her increase.
(They draw their swords)
JULIET: Oh, heavens! What madness doth ensue When men with swords do fight anew My love, I beg thee, put thy sword away And let us go, and live to love another day.
ROMEO: My sweet, I cannot let this challenge stand I must defend thy honor, my fair hand Tybalt, I will not let thee harm my love And so I fight, and pray to God above.
(They fight. ROMEO kills TYBALT)
JULIET: Oh, fate! Why doth thou play such cruel games? My heart is torn apart, my soul in flames For Tybalt, my dear cousin, lies dead And Romeo, my love, hath blood on his head.
ROMEO: What have I done? I have slain a man And all for love, and for my Juliet's hand My heart is heavy, my soul in pain For what we've done, we shall not regain.
JULIET: My Romeo, what's done is done We cannot change the past, not one by one Let us flee this place, before more harm is wrought And pray that love, in the end, is all we've sought.
(They exit)
