Eli panted heavily after breaking the massive crystal ball. Her silver hair was messy after the aftershock of an explosion caused her hair to fly around. Her face flushed red hot as if she had run a marathon while sweat dripped down her forehead. She gasped and tried catching her breath; however, she still couldn't get enough air into her lungs.
"Damn it... Did I mess up?" She muttered, looking around to see her mother staring at her in awe and the butler, who seemed dumbfounded by the whole situation. "I'm sorry..."
Eleonora walked quickly towards her and raised her hand.
"I'm sorry!" She closed her eyes and covered her face with both hands. She feared that Eleonora would hit her like she usually does. "I didn't mean to break it!"
However, Eleonora patted Eli's shoulder, making her gasp in shock.
"Eh?" she opened one eye, then another, to see her mother smiling at her.
"Eli! You are an amazing girl." She said with a smile.
"Eh?!" Eli blinked a couple of times, trying to figure out whether she was dreaming. "W-What did you say?"
Eleonora pointed at the broken crystal scattered around the room, "Do you have any idea how much mana you need even to crack it?"
Eli shrugged her shoulders. "Uh... Maybe at least C-rank?"
Eleonora placed her other hand on Eli's shoulder and leaned closer to her face, "At least B-rank. And you didn't just crack it. You actually destroyed it."
"B-rank?" she asked in disbelief as her cheeks flushed pink. 'Is she serious?' she thought to herself. The more she looked around, she saw that she wasn't dreaming; it was all too real. She had shattered a huge crystal ball using only her own mana. 'Doesn't that make me pretty strong?'
"And I'm pretty sure it is worth over two thousand gold coins," Eleonora continued.
"Worth... two... Two thousand..." Her voice trembled as if the words themselves caused her body pain. 'IS SHE GOING TO MAKE ME PAY FOR IT?!' Eli bit her bottom lip so hard it bled. "Why did you make me use it... You know I won't be able to pay it back."
"Pay it back?" Eleonora repeated with a confused tone. She shook her head and said. "You won't have to pay it back. You're family, after all."
'Since when?!' Eli's inner-self exclaimed, feeling a bit insulted, but she was still relieved that she wouldn't have to work for an entire year and give away all her paychecks.
Then Eleonora stepped aside, looked at the broken crystal, and placed her hands on her hips while saying, "Besides, I was the one who told you to get your mana tested. So this is my treat."
Eli felt the tension leave her body and her heart pitter-pattered in joy. "Thank you, mother!" she cried out in delight.
Eleonora gave an exasperated sigh and patted Eli's shoulder. "But be prepared to transfer schools. It's a waste keeping you among the commoners now," she muttered under her breath as she walked out of the room.
"E-Eh?" Eli's eyes widened as she stood there, then she turned around to look at the room. She took a deep breath before she reached down, picking up a shard that was large enough to fit into her palm, but it instantly broke into thousand pieces. She covered her mouth as a small grin showed up on her face.
"Couldn't I get back to those assholes who keep picking on me at school?!" She exclaimed but quickly heard a fake cough trying to get her attention. She turned back to see the old butler staring at her with a stern expression.
"Mistress said that you're free now," he said, his voice cold and impassive as if speaking to someone about to commit a crime. "You can go now."
She nodded, her cheeks burning red. 'Did he hear me?!' she internally screamed but thanked the old butler. "Thanks..."
She walked out of the training room but gazed over her shoulder again to see the old butler picking up a broom from a storage ring and began sweeping up the shards on the floor.
"Uh, he's probably just pissed about the mess I made. He didn't hear what I said," Eli reassured herself.
She walked out and wandered around the mansion, hoping to find Lara. Her eyes roamed across the hallways until she saw her friend standing outside in the garden.
"Eli! How did it go?" Lara asked with a happy smile.
Eli could only chuckle and shrug. "I broke the crystal."
Lara rolled her eyes playfully, "Oh, that is so cool."
Eli smiled shyly. "Yup."
They shared another hug, and Eli couldn't help but notice the feel of soft skin. She ran her fingers through her friend's hair as they continued their conversation.
"Wait, what?" Suddenly Lara snapped back to reality. "You broke the crystal?" she blinked several times before saying incredulously, "That's amazing!"
"You think so?" Eli's cheeks flushed pink again as she leaned closer to Lara. "Amazing enough to get a reward?"
Lara looked around to see if anyone could be watching, however, decided that she wouldn't risk it and pushed Eli away. "No! I mean, yes! But not now!" Her face was still flush, and her hands trembled slightly. "Not here..." She whispered so quietly that Eli could barely hear her.
"How about going to my room?!" she suggested with a seductive smirk.
Lara raised an eyebrow at this suggestion. "...Sure." She glanced around once again to make sure no one was paying attention before whispering. "After I finish work!" She added as she kissed her finger and placed it on Eli's lips.
"Sounds good," Eli replied happily, placing her hand on Lara's cheek and pecking her on the forehead. "See you soon then!"
Lara nodded and quickly returned inside, waving goodbye before turning into the kitchen for more duties. A small grin remained on Eli's face until she turned the corner leading up to the second floor, where her chambers were located.
"This is the best day ever!~" she said in a playful tone as she walked towards her room.
