Records of the past - Beasts and Prana
It's been a while since I had written on the beastkin and their disappearance.
But I think it's time I shed more light on that, here are the results of my search so far on the past beastkin and their relationship with the beasts of this era.
The race, beastkin, was a race that seemed like a cross between humans and beasts, they came in many forms but they all shared the same trait, which was their unusual power.
Hypothetically speaking, the beastkin might have been the only race to use ether naturally from birth, hence their title - ones blessed by nature.
While they had no access to the elements, they had their unique strength, one unmatched by the warriors of other races and attribute, one eerily similar to what the order of faith exhibits in recent times. Just too bad there is no way for me to confirm my suspicions, perhaps I should have chosen time as my ether attribute instead of space, but given the amount of time and the circumstances, I might just destroy the world in my bid to return to the past.
Now this brings us to the case of the beasts of this era. Just like humans and all the other races, the beasts are able to use aether to enhance their selves and ascend to a higher form, even to a [point where they assume a humanoid form, sometime around their mid-levels, although some races find it even harder to achieve a humanoid form.
I have had the honour of being invited to various beast settlements and have witnessed their culture and their lives styles and it was a wonderful experience. Some beasts have a complete human form, some mimic elves and I've even met one that seemed no different from a demon.
But the ones that intrigued me the most was a certain group among each race that still retained their a few animal traits even after reaching the peak of ascendancy, reminiscent to the beastkin of the chaotic era.
These particular beasts all get access to ether even earlier than the rest of the races, as I've met one that had access to his ether attribute, psychic and mental attributes, at the 3rd stage of ascendancy, amazingly, it was a multi tailed fox that had not even gotten its humanoid form at that point.
This situation and similar ones drove me to visit diverse ascended beast settlements, with their consent of course and my shock never ended. There are more beast settlements that we know, some are exclusive to a certain race, some are huge coalitions of various races, but one thing was common to them all.
With the exception of the few beast races that had clashed with the major races due to the proximity of their settlements, or those that had enmity with the major races, the beast settlements all lived a reclusive lifestyle, just like their awakened beast counterparts that stayed in a particular location.
They were territorial and spent most of their time individually, they did have meetings as a group, a clan or family, clashed with beasts of other settlements, mediated and even performed trades with beasts and major races alike, but they mostly kept to the veil of anonymity and solitude.
When I asked why, even in different settlements, they all said they learnt from their forerunners to avoid the attention devious races until the time was right. One even went as far as quoting,
"the tallest tree gets ravaged most by the winds, we have our peace now because you do not know of our strength and our existence, what would happen if you knew? Besides the ancient ones tried to flaunt their strengths and how did that end"
While it pains me that the major races are looked upon as such by these beasts, it all is true, so what words could I utter.
While I should be worried about a beast uprising, that wouldn't happen, at least I don't see that happening.
Beast settlements consists only of ascendant beasts with human intelligence, they look unto the awakened beasts are the major races do, however they do not go out of their way to hunt them like the major races do.
The awakened beasts look at the ascendant beasts as their lords and would most times avoid their immediate vicinity the way a peasant would avoid the presence of nobility. Most settlements do not even have up to fifty ascendants as it is hard for beasts to ascend and even harder for them to reach the level of intelligence that allows them to coexist peacefully.
They are not united and no ascendant beast would willingly come under the rule of another the way the major races have kings or emperors. It was more like a gathering of friends to watch their backs and pursue perfection, the dealings of the world were not their concern.
After staying with the beasts for a period of time, I had gotten enlightenment and my heart was growing even steadier, it seems the day I reattempt transcending to godhood is even closer. However, time I get to the main point of this letter
The awakened beast already has its energy channels opened unlike humans that have to gradually open it. They just have to take the time to draw in aether to strength their bodies and enrich their source. This has to be done evenly as there needs to be a balance between the growth of the source and the bodily strength.
However, some beasts one-sidedly upgrade the strength of their bodies and other improve their sources, forming a beast core, a weaker version, before the right time, hence sealing their path to ascension. How absurd.
The beasts however that are able to ascend form a proper beast core, aether becomes refined inside the core, increasing its size as the beast grows. The refined energy is different from the ones found in the major races, diversifying from both the aura of warriors and the mana of mages, hence I dubbed it prana.
Prana strengthens the body of the beast and increases their sizes as they grow, however it also gives them an increased control over the elements. How they use it, that I cannot explain even after being in their community for over thirty years.
The higher their stage, the bigger the core of the beast is. This trend continues even after humanization. It is possible for people of major races to use a beast core to augment their strength as prana can easily be converted to aura or mana, not to mention it is even more efficient that most natural treasures, however it is an inhumane action that I would never advice anyone to do.
Hence, I'll hide away this writing for you my successor to find. I know it feels like I am putting so much on your hands, however this knowledge cannot be lost.
Well as an afterthought, I would leave a spell that would allow a pure-blooded beast, one that had been exposed to ether from the very beginning to read this. If you are the one to find this, I hope it aids you in discovering what you are.

A young man with a well sculpted body smirked as he read the letter held in is hands. The material and the ink used carried the traces of time but it didn't stop him from understanding its content
"So the sage really did travel around the world after he stopped his initial attempt to transcend. And he should have a successor, now what should I do, do I burn this or do I leave it for the successor to eventually find"
The figure spoke out loud, however there was no one in the vicinity to answer his question. The silver haired man sat on the alter that held the letter and his waist length hair flowed all around him.
"Well, it would be too boring if they didn't have any idea what they about to face, so I guess this would be my gift to them"
The figure chuckled before it set the piece of parchment back on the alter. He raised his head to the full moon through the opening in the deserted temple and howled, transforming into a wolf before it vanished, returning the area to the calm it had being for thousands of years.
