Ancient Circlers
My name is, forget it, who I was isn't relevant, not right now, nothing is more important than what you're about to witness.
Discoveries that will shake up the world of magic as we know it, hahahaha.
I was lucky to be born in this world to an aristocratic family. A vast difference from my previous life but a welcome one, especially when the type of world this was is to be considered, one of swords of magic.
How I lived, my background and personal life is of no importance to this, but I have lived a long life, especially of you consider the kind of time I have lived through.
Constant wars, unending battles, the ones that walked with you in the morning, shared a drink, spoke about your dreams, in a matter of minutes they could be gone forever.
If someday someone study our lifestyle, how we lived, how we fought, and how we died, this period, this time ,it could only be referred to as CHAOS.
But that isn't the focus of my story. This here is a cumulation of my studies in this new world, while I would.admiy to have been heavily inspired and guided by the knowledge from my profession and experience in my previous life, this is indeed my lifework, and I dub it
Arcane magic: Circles.
Magic that breaks the boundaries of origins and elements, one that every race, every profession, route and art can perform as long as they pay the required price ofcourse.
It was built on the concept of 3 rules.
1. Energy can neither be created or destroyed but it can be converted from one form to another.
2. Energy with opposing attributes cannot come in direct contact with eachother as they will destabilise
3. All energy can be indirectly influenced through the actions of a different energy source even without direct contact.
Rich and powerful energy sources exist in this world, I name them origins
A positive one
And neutral one
And a negative one
Each having its own rules and phenomenon under its control
Like how the elements fall under the positive
Natural phenomena fall under the neutral
And abstract and reverse phenomena fall under the negative.
Lets say, fire for positive, time for neutral, corrosion for negative.
A lot of research had gone into deciphering how each origin only stimulates the phenomena that fell under its category and if we could change the order.
It was a costly endeavour that burned through funds and the lives of my colleagues, but as one that had learnt of the wonders of the physicists of earth while growing up in my last life and following the rules they had set, we were finally able to make a breakthrough.
Explaining this in magic terms would take a lot of paper to explain and even then, I doubt you'd have even the barest understanding of what I write but to explain it.
In my former world there's electricity that has myriad functions, more than I can count, but for now I'll use - to create light through a light bulb.
No human alive in my world can use electricity in its bare form, touching it could kill you hence wires and switches and circuits and the likes were created. Electric is channeled through the wires and circuit and the switch is used as a control
Kinetic energy from human (the action of pulling the switch) triggers the electric energy along the wires and circuit, which generates heat in the bulb which gives light.
Here the human doesn't make direct contact with electricity and electricity doesn't make direct contact with light
So why not implement this here?
Why not use mana to cause ether to move, to cause nether to act. It's all a matter of finding the right cause and effect and recording it in unique magic circuits.
Using the rules listed above as the basis and the analogy above as the guide, The magic circles finally came into existence.
As long as one provided an energy source, regardless of one route and origin, if they could provide the right magic circle they could do anything.
Two hundred years of intense research, my partners, sponsors, friends, rivals, many left me alone in this journey as they succumbed to the sweet solace of death but I carried on and I was successful.
I created the first fully functional magic circle
*Hail and brimstone*
A magic circle that used any energy to trigger fire and earth formation in the designated location, adding gravity to it and space for targeting.
Hahahaha
They called me mad
They called me dumb
I alone changed the direction of the battlefield, one mad with towering circles floating around the battlefield, delivering death to my foes and life to my allies
Overtime I got my title, THE ARCANE KING, the first Circler.
My success didn't turn me away from my first love, I returned to my laboratory, finding more ways to develop the arcane magic of circles.
But that was my biggest mistake. In my bid to test out my results I spread my findings to the rest of the world, and the already Chaotic war got worse.
They were not ready for that power, they built up more using my work as the foundation and destroyed each other.
I looked not in fondness or pride but pain and despair as they destroyed each other, none could approach me, I was aloof, strong, worshiped, but I hurt more than anyone else.
This wasn't what I wished for.
This wasn't what I created Arcane magic for, I wanted everyone to have a glimpse, a grasp of the gift of magic, to no longer be helpless by their own powerlessness, but I ended up destroying them all.
So I created a divine circle with my being as the price.
I wiped out the knowledge of the creation of arcane magic from the memories of every living creature. Destroyed all the research buildings dedicated towards arcane magic, although it completely.
It would hurt if my work just perished without a trace, so I left bits and pieces, scattered across the fallen kingdoms and civilizations, across the hidden labs and research centers that had now become ruins, around temples and auspicious locations.
My work might have accelerated the destruction of this era but my hope is that it helps the future generation grow and achieve peace.
And I leave this letter not because I hope someone will find it, but because I don't want to be forgotten. Even if no one finds this, this would be proof of my existence.
I hope for forgiveness and peace, if there's a God, please protect this world from the disasters my lifeworks can bring.
