章節 8: Chapter Eight
Kendra Pov
fall was approaching which made me happy. I love the fall season. sitting in my pajamas at my loft apartment on a Saturday morning was just heaven. no work or any responsibilities to attend to. looking at my phone I see a text from mike that he was on his way over. going into the kitchen I begin putting a pot of coffee on. I was having a slight migraine which was normal.
" hey babe." mike says coming into my apartment. he greets me with a long kiss on my lips. I couldn't help but smile. our relationship was in a good place an I was happy.
" you want some coffee?" i ask as i pour my on cup.
" sure." mike says sitting at the counter.
" so what's the plan for today?" i ask giving him his cup of coffee.
" um.. I want you to meet my parents." mike says nervously.
I look at him surprised.
" really? so soon?" I ask smirking
" Kendra, you mean a lot to me." mike says kissing me.
i wasnt sure how i felt about meeting mikes family, he seemed to really want me to so i guess i didnt have a choice in the matter. i loved mike and if this is what he wanted to do then who was i to object?
" when?" i ask standing at the stove frying my self an egg and making a slice of toast.
" tonight? my mother is having dinner." mike says as his phone begins beeping. sitting down at the counter with my food i watch as he looks at his phone shaking his head.
" i got to go, ill pick you up at 7." mike says kissing me.

the drive back to Franktown wasn't something I had plan on doing anytime soon. my mother had been calling me ever so often to check on me, still asking when i was coming to visit. I always made some excuse. here i was in the car with mike going to meet his family for the first time. looking out the window I wondered if he told them that i was black? what if they don't approve of him dating me? looking over at mike who was so focused on the road, I felt the urge to ask him if he told them.
" you okay babe?" mike ask? I can tell he sensed me staring at him.
" yea just nervous." I say turning my head back to the window watching the cars zoom by.
" don't worry. they will love you." mike says as if he wasn't nervous at all.
we arrived at a huge mansion that was far off the road, it was beautiful. mike parks his Benz next to a bright red porshe.
getting out of the car mike takes hold of my hand as we make our way towards the big mansion.
the door opens immediately to a girl that looked about my age, she was beautiful I knew she had to be mikes little sister Christina.'
" hey sis" mike says hugging her tightly.
" you must be Kendra?" Christina says hugging me
" hello" I say returning her hug.
we follow Christina into the big house as we make our way to grand living room area where i see a women and man standing by the fire place drinking wine. the man looked like a older version of mike. his gray hair was neatly trimmed with his beard cut nicely to hos face. he was wearing casual pants and button up shirt with expensive looking shoes. the women that stood beside him looked so regal, making eye contact with her was like staring into blackness. I can already sense her shock by my presence.
" mother, father this is Kendra my girlfriend." mike says proudly.
they both look at me with distain. swallowing hard I speak up.
" hello, you have a very beautiful home." I say trying to be polite.
neither of them say anything to me as the sip their wine.
" mother, father?" mike says sounding upset
" what happen to Chloe? Mr. Luciano asks sounding upset
" father we broke up months ago, I'm with Kendra now" mike says raising his voice.
" son please give your father some respect, you clearly have taken us by surprise. we thought you an Chloe were still going strong." Mrs. Luciano says.
" I mean not disrespect son, but this girl is not the image you need to be betraying, you know we are traditional!" Mr. Luciano says looking angry. they spoke as if I wasn't even in the room, feeling uncomfortable I look down as tears begin to well in my eyes.
" father how dare you!" Christina yells
" silence, Michael you need to think about what it is you are throwing away! having relations with a women of color is not what we raised you to do, now I'm sorry but she needs to leave" Mrs. Luciano says folding her arms. letting go of mikes hand i walk out of the room quickly as tears fell down y face.
" Kendra wait!" mike says following behind me.
" mike no, I cant stay here. I knew coming was a bad idea. this town is racist it always has been" I say running out of the big house.
" Kendra I love you! to hell with them!" mikes says grabbing me.
" I'm going home. you should stay, I cant come between you and your family mike." I say crying
" I don't care, I'm not letting you leave without me." mike says as we walk to his car.
" just take me to my mothers house, you should at least have dinner with your family." I say as we drive away from the house.
" are you sure? " mike asks
" yes." I say looking out the window.
neither of us said anything as the ride to my mothers house went on, it was near 10 pm now as mike pulls into the driveway of the house. getting out of the car, slamming the door behind me i make way up to the house knocking on the door, I hear mike speed away without looking back at him.
" Kendra?" my mother says when the door opens.
" hey mom" I say as she opened the door wider for me to come in.
