Slamming the door behind him, I stood, shaking, with my hands on my hips. How dare he show up here and do this to me! I banged and crashed my way around the kitchen in frustration, too incensed with rage to cry anymore. I began making the toast I didn't want to eat, but knew I had to if my stomach was going to feel any better. The toaster popped just as Auntie Joan opened the kitchen door.

"This Iowa weather... I can't figure it out; one day it's sunny, the next it's frosty out there again."

We heard the bus engine start and rev up outside. I looked out of the window as it began pulling away. "I think Flynn's leaving, Valerie."
