章節 5: Gym Battle!
I jumped awake at the sound of a loud roar. Sucellus, who chose not to sleep in his pokeball was up and alert ready to fight. Suddenly a giant spout of fire came shooting past the window, once it ended I took a quick look outside. What I saw was horrifying and amazing at the same time. Roxanne, the Rustboro City Gym Leader was standing behind a tyranitar that was so large Roxanne looked like a toddler next to it. It had to be at least 9 feet tall. Standing across from her was some guy wearing a sailor looking uniform with a blue bandana with a skull and cross bones on it. In front of him was a houndoom that was releasing fire from its mouth every time it breathed. I couldn't see what they were saying, but whatever it was Roxanne just kept getting angrier. After about a minute of conversation she seemed to have gotten completely fed up. She pointed at the houndoom and her tyranitar blasted it with a beam that looked like a hyper beam except it was completely black. I think it was supposed to be a dark pulse, but the tyranitar was so strong it came out that much stronger. The houndoom tried to counter it with its fire but didn't even manage to delay the beam. Houndoom was thrown across the street where it crashed right through one of the buildings there. The guy she was arguing with turned to run, completely abandoning his houndoom, however before he got very far Roxanne's tyranitar glowed with a black color and suddenly appeared directly behind him, grabbing him with his claws.
With the excitement over I turned to Sucellus and said determinedly, "One day, you'll be strong enough to beat that tyranitar."
Sucellus looked at me and shouted, "Nuzleaf!"
With that we both headed back to bed, knowing we would challenge the gym the next day.

The next morning after a quick breakfast, Sucellus and I headed straight to the gym to challenge Roxanne. We were both pumped after what we saw last night, and taking the first gym badge would be proof that we are getting stronger.
Walking into the gym I walked up to the Gym Administrator, the employee in charge of scheduling a gym challenge, and said, "Excuse me, but could I please schedule a battle with Roxanne?"
The grey haired older man looked up at me from his computer and said, "Sure thing. How many badges do you?"
"I have no badges. This will be my first gym battle."
The administrator followed up his question and said, "Excellent. Can I have your name and place of origin?"
I nodded and replied, "My name is Isaac, and I'm from Rt. 119."
Nodding to signify he had heard my response after a few seconds he then said, "There is an opening immediately if you're ready now. Otherwise the next opening is in 3 days at 13:00."
I excitedly said, "We're ready to battle now!"
The administrator entered presses a few buttons and then said, "If you'll follow me, I'll bring you to the battle field. You may need to wait a few minutes for Leader Roxanne to get there, as she had planned on training one of her new Pokemon this morning."
"Mm that's no problem. Thanks for letting me know."
It was about 15 minutes later that she walked into the battle field.
She quickly walked to the opposite side of the battle field and then said, "Sorry about the delay. " She then turned to the administrator and said, "Let's get this battle started."
The administrator then quickly went through the rules. Essentially, it was a 2v2 battle where Roxanne can't switch out pokemon unless they are unable to battle. Roxanne has to send out her pokemon first, and I get the first move. A rule that is quite advantageous to me. After his explanation he then signaled for Roxanne to send out her first pokemon.
With little to no emotion and all the seriousness of a rock she threw a pokeball and called out, "Go, Geodude!"
Seeing how serious she was I decided to emulate her and threw out Sucellus' pokeball while I said, "Let's do this Sucellus."
The administrator then said rather loudly, for the recording which is taken of each gym battle to send to the league as a counter measure to something the Sensational Sisters were doing a few years ago, "Leader Roxanne has sent out Geodude. Challenger Isaac from Rt. 119 has sent out a nuzleaf known as Sucellus. Challenger Isaac you may start the battle."
At that I said in a quiet but serious manner, "Sucellus start this battle."
"Nuzleaf."
Immediately Sucellus used Grassy Terrain followed by a quick Sunny Day. He then made use of the tall grass he had created to start flanking Roxanne's Geodude.
Roxanne looked a little shocked at our opening before she quickly ordered, "Geodude be careful. Use Rollout to keep moving and try to flatten the grass."
"Sucellus take your time and power up to your max."
I had already explained to Sucellus that he should not reveal himself until he has used Growth and Harden to their max. Rock types tend to be very physical attacks and I didn't want Sucellus taking too much damage since he had to fight 2 pokemon alone.
Roxanne hearing my order realized what I was planning or guessed and she decided to try and take the Grassy Terrain down as fast as possible. She yelled out, "Geodude don't let the nuzleaf stay hidden. Use earthquake!"
I yelled out, "Suc use harden to minimize the damage you take and keep the Grassy Terrain up!"
At this Roxanne looked at me and said, "It's good to see a rookie that doesn't just attack relentlessly and uses strategy to fight."
I rub my head a bit in embarrassment and mutter out, "Thanks."
She then continued to say, "This really is a good strategy for your nuzleaf. Sunny Day increases his speed, and Grassy Terrain the power of his grass type moves while also reducing the effectiveness of the best area of effect type abilities. The real question now is, how much damage can he do?"
I smirk at that and said, "Let's find out. Suc, attack when you're ready."
It was a couple more seconds before the Geodude suddenly found himself being attacked by a hailstorm made from Razor Leaf and Bullet Seed attacks.
Roxanne yelled out, "Geodude, Defense Curl."
While Geodude was defending itself from physical attacks I said, "Suc use your newest move."
Just after I finished that a giant glowing ball of green energy shot out and slammed into Geodude. Vision was obscured and as is polite Sucellus stopped attacking until it could be confirmed whether Geodude was able to battle or not. He quickly ran over to stay by my side during the time we were waiting. It took almost a minute for the dust to clear and just after it cleared the administrator yelled out, "Leader Roxanne's Geodude is unable to battle. The first victory goes to Challenger Isaac with a wonderful display of strategy and power from his nuzleaf, Sucellus!"
The administrator continued by saying, "Would Leader Roxanne please send out her second and final pokemon?"
Smirking slight Roxanne grabbed a pokeball from her belt and sent it out while she said, "Go Nosepass. This is going to be a difficult fight for you."
The administrator pitched in her and said, "Leader Roxanne has sent out her Nosepass. Challenger Isaac will you keep your nuzleaf out or switch pokemon?"
I simply said, "Sucellus will stay out."
The administrator nodded his head in confirmation before saying, "Challenger Isaac, you may start when ready."
I smirked before calling out, "Sucellus keep up the Sunny Day but drop the Grassy Terrain. Full offensive."
Roxanne looked at me in confusion before she quickly said, "Nosepass be on your guard. Who knows what strange strategy they will use."
Right as she finished saying that Sucellus used Nature Power which is affected by the rocky terrain now that Grassy Terrain had finished. The ground below Nosepass exploded upwards throwing Nosepass into the air.
"Sucellus finish this while he's in the air!"
At that Sucellus shot forth a large uncountable number of leaves with Razor Leaf. Every single leaf hit Nosepass. Before he could even fall he was unconscious.
"Nosepass is unable to battle! Challenger Isaac has won!"
Hearing the official announcement I ran out to Sucellus, picked him up and hugged him. I excitedly said, "Great job Sucellus!!! However, don't get arrogant now. Remember if she used that tyranitar from last night we would have lost easily."
Sucellus nodded in understanding, but I could see he was still happy and proud of his victory. As he should be.
While I talked to Sucellus I had completely ignored Roxanne as she attempted to give me the badge. After about a minute she became fed up and yelled, "Excuse me Isaac, but I need to present the badge to you!"
I stared at her in slight horror before I started frantically apologizing for having completely forgotten about her.
She grinned in amusement before she said, "Congratulations Challenger Isaac on a well thought out strategy. You're use of the terrain was exceedingly well done, and I can tell just how much training you've given your nuzleaf. It is my pleasure to present to you the Stone Badge. Stop by when you get stronger so we can battle with my stronger pokemon."
I took the badge from her to out in it's carrying case before I hesitatingly asked, "Umm, would it be possible for me to get your help with my 2nd pokemon? I haven't had a chance to train her yet since I only got her two days ago, but seeing as you're an expert on Rock types I figured you might have some tips for me?"
Roxanne thought for a second and said, "Sure I have an hour before the next challenge I think?" She looked over to the administrator who nodded to confirm her question.
"Great!" Taking Gaia's pokeball and letting her out I said looking at the rhyhorn, "Gaia, this is Roxanne. She is the Rock type gym leader, and she has agreed to help me train you for a bit." I then turned to look at Roxanne and said, "This is Gaia my Rhyhorn. She was gifted to me by Mr. Alpin the owner of the Pokemon Daycare on Rt. 117."
Roxanne looked at me in surprise. She then said, "Oh? Daddy gave you this child of Delilah's? He must really think you have a lot of potential."
I asked in shock, "Daddy?"
Roxanne just laughed and said, "Yup. My full name is Roxanne Alpin. If I'm not mistaken Gaia here should be the daughter of Delilah and Cutie, my tyranitar."
Astonished I asked, "Cutie????"
Roxanne just laughed some more. Eventually she calmed down and said, "Yeah I was 4 when I hatched him."
"Ah, wait are you saying Gaia here is the child of Delilah and that monstrous tyranitar from last night?"
Roxanne just nodded and hummed in confirmation.
I then started laughing as I thought about the information given to me by Nurse Joy when I had Gaia checked out. It took me a few minutes to calm down enough to say, "I guess that explains how Gaia knows the different fang attacks as her egg moves."
Roxanne took out a personalized pokeball and threw it out saying, "Come out Cutie!"
With a massive roar Cutie the extra large tyranitar came out. It took a few seconds to see the situation before it suddenly sniffed the air before pointing at Gaia, turning to look at Roxanne and letting out a small call in a rather questioning voice.
Roxanne giggled a bit and said, "Yes Cutie. This is your daughter with Delilah. It seems Daddy and Delilah felt Isaac here had quite the potential as a trainer. Why don't you take Gaia and teach her how to properly use your fang attacks? While you do that I'll be making sure that Isaac knows how to properly take care of and train Gaia."
"-tar!"
I turned to Gaia and said, "Go train with Cutie here. If you need me I'll be right here." Gaia just nudged up against my legs affectionately before she started making her way to the far side of the field, not even looking to see if Cutie was following her or not. It only took Cutie a few seconds to realize what happened and to follow Gaia.
Roxanne laughed at Gaia's impetuousness. Then she said, "Alright Isaac. Let's get started on education you about rock type pokemon, and the rhyhorn line."
What was supposed to be only an hour took 3 hours because Roxanne wouldn't let me leave until she was completely satisfied that I knew everything she taught me. With a cheerful but tired goodbye I left the gym promising to stop by for a rematch at some point.

Palancar Hello people! Decided to combine the 2 gym battle chapters because the 2nd part wasn't all that long and it was bugging me. I finally have my computer again, which includes the notes that I had on it so I'm gonna go back and edit the past chapters and make sure everything is consistent with my notes and such. Next chapter should be out in the next day or so, I have about a third of it written.
