Even though Golem's Explosion caused a lot of damage, its intended targets weren't harmed at all. Hiding behind Rhydon, Orion sighed while thinking, 'It committed suicide… I was expecting it to use Explosion, but I didn't expect a suicide…'
Explosion and Self-Destruct were extremely dangerous attacks. They were one of the first attacks Orion had researched after entering this world. He didn't want to meet a sudden end just because a Pokemon decided to drag him into the afterlife along with itself.
After researching, he discovered that there were two types of Explosion and Self-Destruct. One was a simple Explosion where the Pokemon performing the attack wouldn't die and would instead just pass out. This explosion was caused just by the Pokemon's energy and hence its power was dependent on how much energy the Pokemon still had left.
The other kind of Explosion and Self-Destruct was where the Pokemon would sacrifice its life and give everything to make the attack as powerful as it could be. Such an attack would be so strong that even a Protect could fail. It was why Orion made Kadabra set up a Reflect first so that it would reduce the power of the attack.
Some respect appeared in the eyes of Orion's Pokemons for the dead Golem's resolve. The energy barrier created by Protect barely managed to withstand the explosion.
Orion sighed in relief while thinking, 'Thankfully I waited until Kadabra and Machoke levelled up some more. Otherwise, they could have been gravely injured even with a Reflect and Protect.'
Without waiting for the dust to settle, Orion said, "Let's continue moving forward. Let's hope that the explosion didn't damage the resources too much…"
Orion and his Pokemons quickly moved to the end of the tunnel and stepped into what was a wide-open area. A large portion of the area had been impacted by the Explosion. The visibility was still quite bad as dust and soil covered the entire area. Fortunately, Rhydon could feel the energy and continued walking towards it.
They finally reached a pit that existed in the ground. Immediately, Orion became excited by what he saw. Despite the area being very dark, he could see several shiny things inside that pit! For some reason, Rhydon became very excited as well. Orion quickly instructed, "Kadabra, teleport everything out. It's time to leave."
"Kadabra"
Kadabra immediately did as asked. Before the Golems, Gravelers and Geodudes could reach them, the group teleported away! Back in the underground room they had created, Orion sighed on seeing how much he had plundered this time.
He muttered, "It's a shame that there wasn't a third colony or even more nearby… We could have created a chain reaction and plundered them all."
"Rhydon!" "Machoke!" "Kadabra!" Orion's three Pokemons enthusiastically nodded in agreement.
Orion chuckled and said, "Oh well, this isn't bad either. Let's pack everything up and return back to the city."
Orion quickly packed everything up. While doing so, he observed several interesting things that he had picked up, especially from the Golem hill.
He quickly left the area and rode back to Saffron City on Rhydon's back. Near the hill, Golems and Dodrios continued to battle. Due to the attack on the hill, the Golems had to divert some of their forces inside the hills, which gave the Dodrios and Doduos some breathing space.
The two sides quickly realized that the Golem hill had been robbed as well! It caused the Dodrios to be confused. They weren't sure whether the Golems were telling the truth or whether they were lying to cut down their losses and wait for the Dodrio's morale to dampen. As a result, they kept attacking.
The two sides continued fighting until evening when a few baby Doduos woke up and informed the Dodrio that they were attacked by a human trainer and not by the Golems.
Unfortunately, by then, both sides had taken severe losses. Over 75% of the Dodrio and Doduo had lost their lives. The rest weren't in good shape either.
The losses were equally severe on the other side. Over 60% of Golem, Graveler and Geodude had lost their lives. In numbers, their deaths were higher than Dodrio and Doduo! They also lost the second-strongest Golem against Orion. In addition, almost everyone who was still alive, including their leader, had terrifying injuries.
After the war ended, the Golems retreated to their hill for their wounds to heal. As for the Dodrio and Doduo, they left that area and moved away as they didn't have the strength to endure if any other Pokemon colony attacked them.
As for the one who had caused the entire battle, he was sitting in his cozy room, greedily counting how much he had gained!
After going through everything, Orion analyzed, 'Interesting. Though I looted two colonies, the type of loot I received from both sides is different. In Dodrio's nest, I mostly got the berries. On the other hand, I got a lot of valuable metals and stones from the Golem hill. There isn't even a single berry from there.
I guess the Golems hid their perishables elsewhere. Oh well, it's not like I had a lot of time to slowly search the entire hill. My current loot is great as well. The most important things are these.'
A few stones were floating in front of Orion. They were of two types. The first type were sleek dark brown stones, etched with subtle black lines. Orion had 7 of those. The second type were slightly larger, fist-sized light brown stones. Their surface exhibited lines that looked like veins and had a faint golden shine. Orion had 12 of those.
Orion muttered to himself, 'Essence crystals. Or more specifically, Rock Essence crystal and Earth Essence crystal. I saw them displayed in Silph Co. They sold each one of them for a million Pokecoins! And apparently, there are essence crystals of higher quality that even go beyond a billion Pokecoins in auctions…
The reason why they sell for so much is that they are created naturally and contain pure energy of their respective types. That said, the Essence crystals for different types vary in some ways in their nature.
The most abundant Essence crystals that are available are Fire, Thunder and Water Essence crystals. And they are none other than Fire, Thunder and Water stones that are commonly used for evolving Pokemons. Though they are primarily used for evolutions, any Pokemon of those respective types can absorb energy from it to improve its potential. The only precaution that needs to be taken is to not give it to a Pokemon that evolves with its help.
Similarly, there are Leaf and Ice stones for Grass and Ice types respectively. And, there are some other stones that help just some Pokemon species.
After the Fire, Thunder and Water stones, Rock and Earth Essence crystals are the most abundant. They generally appear in mountainous regions and under the ground. They generally take the form of crystals, but at times, they can also take the form of stones or rocks, sort of like how I found them…
Steel Essence crystal is similar to Rock and Ground, though it is far rarer. Psychic, Ghost and Dark Essence crystals are even more rare, and hence more costly. I have no idea where Psychic Essence crystals form, but Ghost and Dark Essence crystals form in ominous places.
The rarest Essence crystals are of Dragon and Fairy type, making them the costliest. As for Normal, Fighting, Flying, Bug and Poison types, there are no Essence crystals of these types.
That kinda sucks as Pokemons can slowly absorb this energy and improve their potential. Those types miss out on an easy way of improving their potential. I guess nature isn't always fair. That said, there are other means for those types. Otherwise, they would have long become extinct.'
[A/N: I have just expanded upon the existing Evolutionary stones so that some more types can be covered. So, Essence crystal isn't something entirely new to the Pokemon world like some of the other stuff in this story.
Anyway, I'm sure everyone is wondering how much impact these items (Essence crystals, held items, and I'll be adding a lot of other stuff in the future) will have on the potential of the Pokemons.
Right now, Orion isn't sure exactly how much effect each item has on his Pokemon's potential. He can't even guess as he barely has any data. So, I can't exactly show in the story how these items impact them.
But that will change very soon. You will get a much clearer picture of potential in the upcoming chapters. The upcoming chapters will also give a better understanding of the world and the situation of humans and Pokemon Trainers in this world.]
