章節 31: On the Subject of Wayfinders

A Hengledd Wayfinder
The forested paths of the Kingdom of Hengledd was once inhabited by White Walkers and other tribes that would roam it, when Rhodri formed the kingdom, the practice of Cait Renn or Cattle Taking or Roadside Banditry was a problem that arose with it, even when he died such crimes still took place as poor families would take to stealing just so they could survive the cold, it was also a way for men to prove their valor through small skirmishes, the problem was such that at the start of his reign, King Anarawd began to reorganize the Fianna, squires of Gallowglasses, particularly those who have lost their Gallowglass masters and make them into a roaming force of warriors and rangers in which they would enforce law and order to the land, at first it was just the old Fianna who were never inducted as Gallowglasses who became at first known as Roamers but then they requested to the king that they be supplemented with young druids or at the very least skinchangers to help them in their duties which was granted.
This Wayfinders, as they would come to be known, would often times fight the occasional raiding parties of other Wildlings, even encountering White Walkers before they would fell them with their obsidian tip arrows often times they would assist with the Night's Watch and track down notorious Wildling Bands creating a somewhat lukewarm relations between the two. As stated earlier, early Wayfinders were just old Fianna who never became Gallowglasses, but over time they would welcome others with preferences over Skinchangers, often times they became a means of escape for a poor but adventurous Hengledd woman from their situation in life as Wayfinders do not discriminate upon genders, these somewhat created another concern for the Night's Watch as often times dalliances would occur between a Watch Ranger and a female Wayfinder which would result in a pregnancy of the Wayfinder, it became such a problem that the then Lord Commander Qorgyle decided that all brothers of the Night's Watch may not range Beyond the Wall without a senior officer or other of their senior comrades to straighten them up, but it did not help as a precedent was already made earlier on when a brother of theirs established a camp near the Haunted Forest and had married a Wildling Woman then and had children with her.
Still if not for both the Night's Watch and Wayfinders helping one another, a wildling band may have traversed the Wall unchallenged and wreak havoc across the South like before.
