章節 3: Kennis - FreMika

At first, Freminet had enjoyed having all the knowledge that he did about the underwater world - it made him feel special. But over time, he discovered that he wanted someone to share it with, and someone who would reciprocate by sharing one of their special interests with him. He figured that Lyney and Lynette would probably not be interested (they were usually always busy with their Teyvat-wide magic shows, after all). But setting Pers down on the table changed his fate forever - Pers slowly waddled over the table, nearly tipping off… but instead of falling, it bumped into him.

Both were sceptical and nervous at first. But over time, they became close friends through progress. Mika was slightly unnerved at how quiet Freminet was - it seemed as though he would never say a word. But Mika realised the potential he had to be good teammates - observing Freminet, he noticed several possible indicators of neatness and willingness. He noticed the possibility of the idea that just like him, he wanted someone to share one of his most precious interests with; a like-minded soul. After going out on expeditions, Freminet would bring back small trinkets for Mika: shells; jewellery; gleaming stones. They would be lined up neatly on a shelf, demonstrating his pride in them, the exact same way that Mika's collection of Teyvat maps were his pride and joy.

Appearing calm on the outside was Freminet's forte. However, as Mika slowly approached him, he felt his anxiety wash over him like unpleasantly warm water. Blood rushed to his face - he was staring. He quickly looked down, careful not to catch Mika's eyes.

"Hi there." Mika spoke first, awkwardly extending his hand. From then on they were to be inseparable.

Months later, and Freminet wanted to go on a dive - he had been begging Mika for a while now. A big expedition into Fontaine's beautiful azure seas would be full of wonder; Freminet wanted to share the experience with Mika, bringing him along. After some careful persuasion, he had finally been convinced to at the very least put on the diving gear and paddle a bit in the calm, sapphire-blue waters. Freminet's small, encouraging smile could work wonders, and Mika slowly waded in further.

After a while of swimming, an island came into view; two green palm trees sat surrounded by a small patch of emerald grass, encircled by sand. Freminet gave the signal that they should swim towards the island, and Mika was somewhat confused - this island wasn't on any map he had ever seen or drawn (and he himself was somewhat close to mapping all of Teyvat). Then again, he had never been diving. He probably should have been a long time ago to extend his cartography skills… Freminet appeared to smile at him through the helmets, and they cautiously approached the island.

Warm and soft beneath their feet, the sand shined a golden brown in the blazing sun. Mika's bright, cobalt blue eyes sparkled as he looked around in awe. He had never seen anything so beautiful back at home in Mondstat - the bustling city and having to help his brother would have taken his attention elsewhere, away from sights and scents. But now he was here, and he could breathe in the wonderfully salty air with no distractions. He smiled shyly at Freminet.

"Thank you, Fremi," Mika said, smiling. "Thank you for bringing me here…"

"I told you that you'd like it. And now you can add this island to your maps. Maybe other people will find it then, too," Freminet whispered.

"Maybe I shouldn't." A pause. "Maybe we could keep this island safe, a secret. Then we don't have to worry about other people coming here and probably kicking us off." He gently interlocked his hands with Freminet's, his face burning a bright shade of pink. Freminet's freckled face, on the other hand, had turned a paler, more rosy shade.

"We wouldn't even tell Lyney and Lynette… the island would be ours…" A pause, and a small nod. "Alright, I'll do it," Freminet murmured, lilac eyes sparkling with hints of glee.

"I definitely won't put it on any of my maps, then," Mika whispered, pulling Freminet into a hug.

Freminet softly clung to Mika, thanking his lucky sea-stars for this moment. He knew his mother was looking down at him from the glittering stars above, and was grateful; but he had also realised that the stars in the sea were important. Gently nuzzling into his boyfriend's shoulder, a sense of calm washed over him. With the scent of the salt lingering in the air and the warm wind making the trees sway gently, both of them knew it was a moment that they would be cherishing forever - one that would withstand the vigorous test of time.

They cuddled on the island until sunset, until it was eventually time to go. Freminet knew that Lyney and Lynette would most likely worry about him if he was still offshore at nightfall - the sea could be cruel and vicious at night time, hiding its terrors. Mika scooped up a large handful of sand, carefully shifting it into a transparent jar.

"I thought this could go on your shelf of treasures," he said, presenting it with a small flourish - he was grinning and blushing slightly.

Stepping ashore was relieving for him. Even though he knew Freminet was a great diver, he didn't have that kind of experience. Freminet smiled delicately and gently took the jar from him, being exceptionally careful not to break it. It was his new favourite object, after all - a wonderful gift given to him by the one he so dearly loved and cared for.

As darkness fell, Mika sat staring into empty space. His brother had been dealt with and was noisily snoring, and yet Mika himself could not sleep, busy overthinking the day's events. He tossed and turned, wishing that tiredness would take him. With little success on sleeping, he looked over at the starry night sky outside of the window. A gentle breeze came through as he opened it, the smell of salt seemingly omnipresent throughout Fontaine. With little to no thought or consideration, he hopped out of the window and wandered off into the night.

Freminet was awoken by a light tapping on his window. Gently putting Pers aside on his usual shelf, he got up and saw the bright blond hair of a very certain Mika Schmidt. His fingers fumbled slightly as he quickly moved to open the window and let him in.

"Sorry to drop by unannounced," he said, climbing in, "I couldn't sleep." Pause. "I don't know… I just kept thinking about hugging you… You're soft." He blushed furiously.

"That's okay," Freminet smiled, pulling Mika into another soft hug, playing with his funny, soft hair. "You're soft and fluffy. I love you. Lots."

"You're sweet… You showed me the prettiest island, and it's ours."

"We can try to keep that island secret for as long as possible. Hopefully no other divers find it and tell anyone…" Freminet muttered, again nestling his head into Mika's shoulder. However, a light ticking sound distracted his attention away from the warmth of the moment.

Eventually, his eyes intently rested on the shelf where he kept Pers and Mika's jar. He reluctantly let go of Mika and wandered toward the shelf, the clicking getting louder; it had to be coming from inside the jar.

"What's wrong, Fremi?"

"The jar is making some sort of clicking noise… no, it's ticking. Is it possible the jar has some kind of clock in it…?" he whispered, opening it and gently filtering the sand with his fingers.

Soon enough, he came across a small golden clock, attached to a long, thin bronze chain. The clock was ticking along merrily, small cogs turning and ticking under its polished glass surface. Despite the sand embedded in various places of its mechanism, it clicked along smoothly as Freminet held it close to his ear.

"Is it possible we discovered some kind of… treasure island…?" Mika questioned.

"It's possible… I've heard of them being scattered over Teyvat… I just never thought it was likely there was one so close to Fontaine…" Freminet paused. "This is something similar to the mechanism Pers' clock has."

He picked up the silly mechanical penguin, and it began to flap its wings in joy. Freminet quickly shushed it, and it blinked - it opted to waddle around quietly on the floor instead, as both Freminet and Mika tried to listen for any noise from outside.

When all that was heard was silence, Freminet nestled into Mika again, drawn to his warmth and fluffy hair (he hoped that Lyney and Lynette had not been awoken by the noise made by Pers).

Starting to doze off himself, he thought solely about the enjoyment he had felt that day: the first of hopefully many dives with Mika; the possible discovery of a treasure island; and the comfortable, soft cuddles in the warm sun.

Mika was similarly drowsy, his eyes becoming heavy and his head resting on Freminet's. Reality slowly slipped away - in the blissful world of sleep he could cuddle Freminet for what felt like an eternity. He could hear Freminet's quiet, slow breathing and changed the pace of his own to match. In the world of sleep, neither of them had to worry about anything - they could stay for a few comfortable hours in each others' arms before having to return to their lives.

"I love you, Fremi."

"I love you too, Mika. Very much."

And then there was peace.
