When Wang Jingyuan came out of the dressing room, Mo Xian was astonished. The ocean-blue hanfu fit her perfectly. Before, when she was wearing the light green linen hanfu, he had already thought she was beautiful. But now, as she wore this masterfully-sewn hanfu and shyly stepped towards him, Mo Xian could not believe that she was not a goddess who had come down from the heavens.
The skirt swished around her ankles as she walked, with the folds rippling like waves. Although Wang Jingyuan still only wore her hair as a high ponytail, the dark blue hair ribbon matched perfectly with her new clothes. The shopkeeper was right; it did accentuate Wang Jingyuan's martial artist aura. She looked like she could be the chief of a sect, or even the number one martial artist in the entire sector.
"Does it look good?" Wang Jingyuan asked softly. She noticed that Mo Xian was looking intently at her, and she wondered if there was something wrong.
"Yes, you look absolutely stunning, Miss Wang." Mo Xian smiled at her. Wang Jingyuan smiled back shyly, and Mo Xian found himself falling into her beautiful smile.
"I can guarantee you, miss, you're the most beautiful martial artist I've ever seen." Even the shopkeeper was impressed with the look. It was as if the hanfu was personally made for Wang Jingyuan.
Mo Xian shook himself out of his trance. "How much is it?" he asked the shopkeeper.
"Two silver coins, childe." The shopkeeper replied.
Wang Jingyuan's eyes widened involuntarily. Two silver coins! She couldn't believe that this set of clothing cost five times more than their two-person stay at the inn. She was about to tell Mo Xian that they should return it and she can pick out something cheaper, but Mo Xian opened his coin pouch and gave the shopkeeper two silver coins without even batting an eye at the price. This was very cheap to him; his clothes cost in the gold coins range.
Wang Jingyuan said to Mo Xian as they left the shop, "Childe Mo, if I had known this hanfu cost so much, I never would have gotten it."
"Miss Wang, money is not an issue. Consider it a gift; after all, you've saved my life twice already. If anything, I should be buying you the most exquisite silks on earth." Mo Xian smiled at her. Wang Jingyuan shook her head rapidly.
"Oh, please don't, Childe Mo. What would I do with them?"
"The silks? Why, wear them of course. Or, you can use them as rags, maybe rip them because you like the sound of silk tearing. You can do whatever your heart desires to them."
"Use as rags? Rip them? Childe Mo, does your money grow on trees?" Wang Jingyuan was appalled. Here she was, pinching every copper coin, and Mo Xian was spending money like it was water. "Not that I'm scolding you or anything, but Childe Mo, you should be more frugal with your spending."
"Oh?" Mo Xian's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Miss Wang, how do you suggest I go about being more frugal with my spending?"
Wang Jingyuan had plenty to say about his spending. "Childe Mo, you can start by not spending so much money on unnecessary items for me. And, you can buy cheaper things if you don't always go for the ones made from the finest materials. They're all the same, if you ask me."
"But it's not unnecessary if you like them," Mo Xian argued. "If there is one thing I will not be frugal about, it will be spending money for you, Miss Wang."
Wang Jingyuan finally realized that he was teasing her. "Childe Mo!" She exclaimed in frustration. Mo Xian laughed heartily at her flushed expression.
"Why, I believe it is almost noon. Are you hungry, Miss Wang?" He changed the subject suddenly.
"Mmm, a little." Wang Jingyuan did not realize this was another trap.
"Alright. This is the best restaurant in the entire city. Let's have our lunch here today." Mo Xian pulled her into a fancy building.
"Childe Mo! What did I just say about not always going for the best things?"
"Only the best for you, Miss Wang."
Once inside, Mo Xian asked for the best private seating in the restaurant. They were led upstairs to a bright and airy room that overlooked the street. A decorative bamboo partitions was placed to the side. A mahogany table, polished until it shone, sat by the window. Mo Xian and Wang Jingyuan sat across from each other.
"Childe, miss, what would you like to order?" The waiter asked respectfully as he handed Mo Xian and Wang Jingyuan menus.
"Miss Wang, this is my treat, so please order whatever you like," Mo Xian said to Wang Jingyuan, who was busy looking through the dishes listed on the menu. She recognized most of them, but there were others she had never tried before. The price was listed beside each dish. Even though Mo Xian said he was paying, Wang Jingyuan couldn't help but calculate how much a meal would be and how she could get the most out of her—well, Mo Xian's—money.
"Childe Mo, I don't know what to get," Wang Jingyuan said. "Something simple would suffice. So maybe a bowl of rice, a plate of stir-fry beef, and—"
Mo Xian knew exactly what Wang Jingyuan was thinking. He found it adorable how she was trying to save him money when he was richer than she could ever imagine. Hell, he could buy this entire restaurant for her and it would be like spending ten copper coins. Oh, if only she knew who he really was…
"Waiter, get us one of each of your best dishes." Mo Xian handed the menu back to the waiter without even opening it to glance inside. Wang Jingyuan stared at Mo Xian as the waiter took her menu, bowed respectfully to both of them, and left.
"Childe Mo, do you even have that much money?" She asked him bluntly.
"Yes, I do."
"Can you eat all the food you just ordered?"
"You mean, can 'we' eat all the food I just ordered."
"Childe Mo, I don't even know what to say to you anymore."
"Then hush, and enjoy our feast."
