章節 22: Self-improvement.

As Dian emerged from the library, the sun was beginning to cast long shadows, signaling the approaching dusk. Glancing up at the sky, he estimated that it was somewhere between 4 and 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Six hours had flown by while he delved into the depths of knowledge within the library's walls.

Dian couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Not only had he learned a great deal about the world and its intricacies, but he also discovered a fascinating ability of his system. Whenever he read a book, his system had the remarkable capability to create a copy, instantly absorbing all the knowledge contained within. However, this ability was for the system only and Dian would be left without knowing. He could ask the system what it had learned from the books but Dian still wanted to familiarize himself with common knowledge and everyday matters. For instance, he realized that despite the diverse races he had encountered, they were fundamentally human at their core. The difference in their physical attributes lay in their ability to use unique powers and skills, which provided them with convenient advantages they were hesitant to relinquish.

He also discovered that this clan, named the Umeniel clan, to which he resided in, was just one among many clans scattered throughout the vast expanse of the continent. In fact, there were many dozens of clans, each with its own unique heritage and traditions. Given the immense size of the eight continents, people often relied on teleportation to travel between them.

As he continued his research, Dian gained insights into how the clans functioned and the facilities they typically offered. Hospitals, banks, trading centers, and security establishments were among the key components found within clans. These resources ensured that clan members had access to medical care, financial services, and a secure environment for trade and exchange.

Dian's system aided him in understanding the intricate details of currency and trading. While he relied on the system to determine the precise value of items and prevent potential scams, he also learned the general hierarchy of currency. There were four types of coins: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Crystal. Crystal coins held the highest value, surpassing even gold coins in worth. Gold coins, in turn, held a higher value than silver coins, and silver coins were more valuable than bronze coins. Dian discovered that ten bronze coins were roughly equivalent in value to one silver coin, and the same principle applied to silver and gold.

But the most invaluable information for Dian was learning about the functioning of a normal system. He delved into the intricacies of how classes operated, the mechanics of skills, and many other fundamental aspects. Although his understanding remained at a basic level, it was a significant leap for Dian, considering his previous lack of knowledge, relying solely on trial and error.

However, there were certain vital pieces of information that remained elusive. Dian yearned to learn about obtaining classes, skills, crafting, and other essential aspects beyond relying solely on hunting demons in the hopes of acquiring skill orbs or demon armaments. While he knew it was possible to obtain skills and classes independently, as evidenced by his acquisition of the Carving (Basic) skill through his own efforts, he wanted to know exactly how he could obtain those valuable assets so he had something to work towards which would not only make him stronger, but also make his life easier.

But, Apparently, he needed a higher access to the clan's library if he wanted to get the information he wanted to know the most. He thought about sneaking his way to higher access, but he didn't know what and how the security of this place worked so it wasn't worth it. In the end, he needed to meet certain requirements if he wanted higher access. Every clan member was entitled to an elementary level of library access for a nominal fee of 5 bronze coins which Dian also paid. However, to obtain higher access privileges, two options were available: either graduating from the clan's academy or acquiring a written permit from one of the Elders.

Although Dian wasn't disheartened by the current limitations, he looked forward to obtaining the beginner library license the following day. Alongside this, he would also be granted an expert access pass to the academy, which held the potential to unlock higher tiers of education and resources upon graduation. This prospect fueled his determination to make the most of his opportunities and expand his knowledge within the clan.

Armed with newfound confidence and a wealth of basic knowledge stored in his system, Dian set his sights on his next destination—the blacksmith. Although he didn't possess much information about blacksmiths and their craft, his system proved invaluable, guiding him and providing answers to his every query. Dian recognized the strategic importance of visiting the library first, as it not only familiarized him with the layout of the clan but also revealed the locations of various shops, including the blacksmith.

With a spring in his step, Dian approached one of the slightly dilapidated blacksmith establishments in the clan. The scent of sulfur filled the air, accompanied by the rhythmic sound of metal being hammered. Despite his initial hesitation, his system assured him that this particular blacksmith offered more affordable prices. Dian understood the value of his money and preferred not to exhaust his funds in one go, considering it to be emergency savings that should be used judiciously.

With cautious anticipation, Dian gingerly pushed open the door, which emitted a squeaky noise, as if it could potentially detach from its hinges. The interior of the blacksmith shop mirrored its exterior, displaying signs of wear and tear. Seating arrangements lined the sides of the room, while a sizeable empty counter stood before Dian. The walls adorned a variety of weapons, tools, and armors, showcased as if they were works of art. Behind the counter, barrels overflowed with an assortment of weaponry and protective gear. The oppressive heat inside hinted at the presence of a smelting furnace, Dian surmised to himself. However, there was no one present at the front desk to attend to him.

"Excuse me? Anyone here?" Dian called out loudly, hoping to attract some attention. The ceaseless hammering noise emanating from the back rooms ceased abruptly.

"Huh, usually someone steals something by now, and then we have to hunt them down and take away their wallets as compensation," a voice responded, tinged with both disappointment and mockery.

A door situated behind the counter swung open, revealing a towering woman with fiery red hair tied back in a ponytail. She stood at an impressive height of approximately 7 feet, surpassing Dian by a considerable margin. With her dark-brown complexion and a slender yet visibly muscular frame, she exuded an air of strength. Clad in overalls, she clutched a small forging hammer in her hand and perspiration glistened on her forehead. Though it seemed Dian had interrupted her work, she wore a smile that indicated she didn't mind his presence.

"Oi Jet, stop hiding. It looks like we've got a naïve one," the towering woman called out. Dian's surprise grew as he realized there was someone standing right behind him, prompting him to instinctively jump forward.

"Man, this guy is weak. I was practically touching him, and he didn't even notice me. No wonder he didn't attempt to steal anything," remarked the individual addressed as Jet. He was of shorter stature, dressed entirely in black, with a black mask obscuring his facial features. Dian could only catch a glimpse of his vibrant purple eyes amid the concealed countenance.

"You two were expecting me to steal?" Dian asked cautiously, wanting to clarify the situation.

Jet nodded in response. "Yea? I mean, haven't you seen how this place looks? Everyone wants to steal things they can easily get away with... But it's not wrong to take advantage of such people."

The large lady chimed in, her voice booming. "So! What can we do for you, customer?" She placed her still-hot hammer on the counter, causing smoke to rise from it.

Dian relaxed a bit, realizing that they were not hostile towards him. "Just came here recently but I lost my stuff, I just need some tools and if possible some weapons."

"Well, that's exactly what we do," The tall lady responded, "Take a gander over the tools on the wall or you can ask me something specific and I'll look for it in the back. I can also make you custom things but those cost extra and takes time."

Taking a quick glance at the wall, Dian noticed a variety of gear, practical and designed for their intended purposes. Despite spotting a few items that caught his interest, such as a bow and armor, Dian decided to prioritize obtaining the basic essentials first.

"I want a sharp and durable hunting knife with its sheath, a sharpening stone, a backpack, knee and shin guards, and arm guards. I don't care about the quality as long as the total is less than 1 gold coin." Dian stated, after considering his immediate needs. He noticed Jet snickering briefly, but the tall lady maintained her smile.

"Gotcha, be right back," she replied before turning and disappearing into the back rooms. Dian found himself alone in the shop once again, with Jet mysteriously gone.

Dian took the opportunity to examine the other items on display, but only a moment had passed when Dian heard some kind of an argument happening in the back room where the tall lady went. Seemed like there wasn't just two people working here.

Dian was grateful to see the tall lady return with all the items he had requested, placing them on the counter. However, his attention was momentarily diverted by the entrance of another person accompanying her. This new individual seemed visibly upset with the blacksmith woman, but she remained unperturbed, maintaining her friendly smile.

Observing the newcomer, Dian couldn't help but notice the striking resemblance between him and the woman. They shared similar features such as their dark-brown complexion, muscular builds, and red hair. Dian speculated that they might be related, perhaps even father and daughter.

Unfazed by the tension between them, the woman informed Dian, "You're lucky that I dabble in a little bit of everything, so you'll find a backpack here too." Dian nodded in appreciation and stepped forward to inspect the items laid out on the counter.

However, he couldn't help but feel the intense gaze of the new guy, which made it difficult for Dian to concentrate on examining the items. Despite the unwelcome attention, Dian made a conscious effort to ignore the man's presence and focused his attention on the tools and equipment in front of him.

(Good Quality) Iron Hunting Knife.

(Average Quality) Leather backpack.

(Good Quality) Iron arm-guards.

(Average Quality) Iron Shin Guards.

(Average Quality) Iron Knee Guards.

Dian couldn't help but smile as he looked at the items before him. These tools and equipment would prove to be invaluable in his future hunts. While many people preferred using demon armaments, which were weapons made from materials obtained by killing demons and were much stronger than conventional iron or steel, Dian understood that not everyone had the luxury of acquiring such powerful weapons. The gear in front of him offered a more affordable alternative, and he was grateful for it.

"A total of 6 silver coins, you looked like the guy who needed just the essentials, right?" The lady asked and Dian nodded.

"Yep."

Dian wanted to put all the stuff in his inventory but his inventory was full with demon corpses that was going to sell to the Hunters guild for a quick buck but he suddenly had an idea.

"Hey," Dian began, his voice filled with newfound enthusiasm, "you mentioned you could create custom equipment, right?" The tall man who had been eyeing Dian with an air of irritation suddenly focused his gaze, his eyes narrowing with curiosity.

"Would you make some gear with the materials I provide?" Dian asked as he took out the Demon hare's mother that he killed before.
