[Description: An advanced form of the Treant Berserker, known for its ferocious attacks and frontline prowess. A true champion of the Treant race.]
As expected, most of the Mutations resulted in advanced forms of common units, and they inherited the Devour skill from the King of the Man-Eating Flowers.
Alex didn't dwell on it too much and continued recruiting units. Soon, he had three Treant Warriors, three Toxic Enchantresses, and a total of fifteen Tier 4 units. The maximum capacity for a Tier 4 plant-based territory was forty units, and given his current rate of Mana acquisition, he should be able to fill the quota before the beast tide arrived.
As for the outcome, that would be left to fate. He had done all he could to prepare.
After finishing the recruitment, he turned his attention to the updated territory information.
[Territory Name: Tree of Life]
[Territory Tier: 4]
[Territory Durability: 1000/1000]
[Recruitable Units: Plant-based]
[Recruitment Count: 15/40]
[Territory Description: The foundation of a lord's survival. Possesses various functions. If the territory core is destroyed, the lord perishes.]
[Upgrade Requirements: Wood (1000/1000), Stone (36/1000), Mana (14/750), Tier 4 Territory Essence (0/1)]
[Note: Plant-based territory trait—self-sustaining wood supply.]
The materials required to upgrade from Tier 4 to Tier 5 had more than doubled. While the wood requirement was naturally met due to the plant-based territory's advantage, the other resources would require significant effort to gather. Upgrading in a short time frame seemed unlikely.
What surprised Alex the most, however, was the Blazing Lotus planted beside the Tree of Life. Thanks to the territory's upgrade, it had also advanced to Tier 4 and now produced twenty Mana per hour. This meant he could earn over four hundred Mana daily—a considerable income.
"Hey everyone, I've got a Tier 3 plant-based Unit Token. Looking to trade for a Tier 3 insect-based or undead-based token. Anyone interested?"
Suddenly, a message popped up in the regional chat, catching Alex's attention. The message was from someone named Luke , who was offering to trade a plant-based Unit Token for another type.
The moment the message appeared, the regional chat exploded with reactions.
"A Tier 3 Unit Token? Isn't that something you only get from clearing a Tier 3 monster nest?"
"Someone's already cleared a Tier 3 nest? That fast?"
"I heard Tier 3 nests can spawn Tier 4 boss monsters. Is that true?"
"Damn, this guy's a beast! He can handle Tier 4 monsters?"
"So jealous. I wish I had a Unit Token. My random units are trash."
"Plant-based units are so weak early on. Doubt anyone's got a token to trade with him."
"Haha, true. That token's probably gonna sit in his inventory forever."
The chatter quickly turned to mockery. It was well-known that plant-based units were weak in the early stages. Few had even reached Tier 3, let alone cleared a Tier 3 monster nest to obtain a Unit Token. Luke was unlucky to have gotten a plant-based token, and the others were reveling in his misfortune.
"Any responses?"
In a dark, mist-shrouded valley, a young man approached Luo Lei.
"Nope. Looks like it's a long shot," Luke replied, shaking his head as he stared at the regional chat.
The two of them had expended countless units to finally clear a Treant nest and obtain this Unit Token, only to end up with the least desirable type. The disappointment was palpable.
The young man sighed. "If nothing works out, just trade it for Mana. Better than letting it go to waste. Besides, our units are almost wiped out. We'll need to upgrade our territory, and the little Mana we have isn't enough."
"Yeah, I guess that's the only option," Luke said reluctantly.
He wasn't keen on trading the token for Mana. Mana could be earned, but tokens were rare. Missing this chance to unlock a new unit type would be a significant setback. Still, given their dire situation, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and prepare to change the trade offer to Mana.
"I've got a Tier 3 undead-based Unit Token. How do you want to trade?"
Suddenly, a new message appeared in the regional chat.
"What?!" Luo Lei's eyes widened in disbelief, followed by a surge of excitement. Someone actually had the token they needed and was willing to trade for a plant-based one!
The chat, which had been mocking him moments ago, erupted in chaos.
"Wait, someone's actually willing to trade for a plant-based token?"
"Is this a scam? Be careful, Luo Lei!"
"I think it's fake. I've been watching the chat, and I've never seen a plant-based player reach Tier 3."
"Alex? Never heard of him. Is he even a plant-based player?"
"Probably just trolling."
Compared to Luo Lei, Alex was virtually unknown. He had only spoken twice in the chat, and few remembered his name. The regional chat had its flaws, one of which was displaying real names, which was why Alex rarely posted.
He had tried to private message Luo Lei, but there was no response, likely buried under other messages. Sure enough, shortly after his public message, he received a private message from Luo Lei.
"Hey, do you really have an undead-based Unit Token?"
"Sorry, I don't mean to doubt you, but you know how plant-based units are right now. I just want to confirm."
It was clear that Luke was being cautious, not immediately trusting Alex's claim. Alex understood and replied, "I've got no reason to lie. How about this? You pick the trade location. That should show my sincerity."
Alex was confident in his strength. Even if the other party had reached Tier 4, he was certain he could handle them. Besides, the monster nests had only been open for less than a day. He doubted anyone who had upgraded to Tier 4 would have enough Mana to recruit more than a couple of Tier 4 units.
Luke seemed convinced by his sincerity and finally replied, "Alright, I believe you. Let's do the trade at my territory. Is that okay?"
Alex was slightly surprised but agreed. "Sure, send me the location."
The deal was struck, and Alex received the coordinates to Luo Lei's territory. They agreed to meet the next morning.
As for why Luke chose his own territory as the meeting point, Alex could easily guess. It was a matter of safety. After all, Tier 4 monsters were no joke. Even with allies, Luke likely wouldn't fare well. He probably had few units left, forcing him to reveal his territory's location to ensure his short-term safety.
With that in mind, Alex had nothing to worry about.
