"Is there nothing that can be done to prevent it?" I asked, though I partly knew that it was rather pointless. No one would be able to tell a thief to stop stealing when it's the only way they know to stay alive. Still, it's worth a try.

How can one live in peace when they know what terrible things await them ahead? I don't want this world to end, not when I've just found the things precious to me and the people I care about. If possible, I wanted to live alongside them for a long time, spending our remaining time peacefully and happily. How wonderful would that be?

It's a wonderful dream, one that I would never have dared to think about just a few months ago. But even now, it seems so far away, knowing that the darkness is once again trying to defeat the light.

"Nothing," the tree said, its voice full of sorrow. "The only thing that we can do is fight. But then again, it's one of the purposes of your existence—of the power you hold."
