章節 43: [43] Embrace Your Fire

As Midnight's voice faded, Todoroki sprang into action. A massive wave of ice erupted from his right foot, racing towards me with frightening speed.

Channeling One For All at 4%, I leaped into the air, my enhanced reflexes allowing me to twist my body just in time. The ice passed beneath me, missing my feet by mere centimeters. The chill bit at my skin, but I pushed the sensation aside, focusing on my next move.

I hit the ground running, my body low and streamlined. One For All hummed through my muscles, each step precise and powerful. Todoroki was relentless, ice sprouting from every part of him as he tried to pin me down.

I weaved between the frozen spikes and jagged blades, my movements a blur of green lightning. Present Mic's voice boomed over the loudspeakers, "Incredible! Midoriya dodges Todoroki's opening attack with superhuman speed! This kid's got moves!"

Todoroki's eyes widened slightly, a flicker of surprise crossing his usually stoic face. He had expected me to dodge, but not to close the distance between us so quickly.

I charged forward, my fist cocked back in a feint. As expected, Todoroki brought up a wall of ice to block my advance. But I was already shifting my weight, channeling One For All into my leg for a powerful spinning kick.

My heel crashed into the frozen barrier with a resounding crack. The ice shattered, sending a thousand glittering shards exploding outwards. Through the falling curtain of crystal, our eyes met. Green on gray, will against will.

"What a counter!" Present Mic exclaimed. "Midoriya meets Todoroki's ice head-on, shattering his defenses with a single, devastating kick!"

As the ice fragments settled around us, I readied myself for Todoroki's next move. This battle was far from over, and I knew I would need every ounce of skill and strategy to come out on top.

I heard Aizawa's voice. "Midoriya's control over his quirk has improved immensely. He's channeling his power with precision, minimizing the damage to himself while maximizing the impact on his opponent."

I analyzed Todoroki's stance, his breathing, the slight tremor in his right hand. His jaw clenched, and the air shimmered as he unleashed another blast of ice, larger and faster than before.

I leaped, my enhanced strength carrying me high into the air, over the onrushing wave of frost. At the apex of my jump, I tucked into a roll, my body coiling like a spring.

Todoroki looked up, his eyes widening as he realized my intention. He raised his hands, a wall of ice surging upwards to meet me.

But he was too late. I uncoiled, my leg extending in a devastating axe kick. My heel struck the ice with tremendous force, the shockwave of the impact sending cracks spiderwebbing through the barrier, shattering it into a thousand pieces.

I landed in a crouch, the shards of ice crashing down around me like a crystalline rainfall. Before me, Todoroki stood, his chest heaving, his breath misting in the frigid air.

"What power!" Present Mic's voice was almost lost in the roar of the crowd. "Midoriya's blows are like a force of nature, a tsunami of raw strength!"

"But Todoroki's not out yet," Aizawa interjected, his tone grave. "That ice he's using... it's not just for offense or defense. It's changing the terrain, altering the battlefield to his advantage. He's playing a long game."

I could see what Aizawa meant. The arena floor was a patchwork of ice and rubble now, the footing treacherous and uneven. Todoroki's use of his quirk was turning the field into a maze of jagged protrusions and slick surfaces designed to throw me off balance, to slow me down.

But I'd faced worse challenges than a little ice.

I rushed forward, my feet finding purchase on the ice, my body twisting and spinning as I navigated the treacherous terrain. Todoroki matched me move for move, his quirk erupting in a constant barrage.

We clashed again and again, our bodies blurring, our quirks roaring. My enhanced strength met his ice, kinetic force clashed with cold, motion battled stasis. It was like the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object, a paradox given form.

"They're not even fighting anymore!" Present Mic's voice was hoarse, cracking with excitement. "They're dancing! A deadly, beautiful, breathtaking dance!"

"Don't be fooled," Aizawa warned. "This isn't just a display of skill. It's a battle of wills, a clash of ideals. The stakes here are higher than just a tournament victory."

Aizawa was right. With every strike, every parry, every desperate scramble and heart-stopping leap, I could feel it. The weight of everything this fight represented, everything it meant, not just to me and Todoroki, but to the world watching.

The ice was everywhere now, a shifting, treacherous landscape that stretched from one end of the arena to the other. Todoroki stood at its center, his breath coming in ragged gasps, his right side coated in a sheen of frost.

But I could see the toll this battle was taking. Todoroki's movements were slowing, his ice less precise, less controlled.

I knew I had to act, to seize this moment before it slipped away. My power surged within me, building to a crescendo. The heat of battle, the thrill of the dance, it was all coming to a head.

I saw Todoroki's next attack coming, saw the wave of ice racing towards me, jagged and gleaming and deadly. But this time, I didn't dodge. I didn't weave or spin or leap.

This time, I met it head-on.

I channeled my power into my fist, focusing it, shaping it, until my hand was wreathed in flickering green lightning. The scent of ozone filling my nostrils.

And as the ice closed in, as Todoroki's desperate assault bore down upon me...

I let it loose.

"RAIJIN!"

My fist slammed into the onrushing wave in a blinding explosion. The ice shattered in an instant, the shockwave of my blow sending fragments flying in all directions.

And through the gap, through the path I had carved with my own power...

I saw Todoroki. Saw his eyes widen, saw his mouth open in a gasp of shock and disbelief.

The shockwave hit him like a runaway train, lifting him off his feet, hurling him back towards the edge of the ring. He crashed into his own ice, the barrier cracking and crumbling under the impact.

For a moment, he teetered there, his balance precarious, his body almost of bounds.

"WHAT A MOVE!" Present Mic's voice was a tsunami of sound, crashing over the stadium. "MIDORIYA BLASTS THROUGH TODOROKI'S ICE LIKE IT'S NOTHING! IS THIS THE END?"

The crowd roared, their voices a thunderous wave. I kept my eyes locked on Todoroki as he teetered on the edge of the arena. With a final burst of effort, he shot ice from his foot, anchoring himself just inches from the boundary.

Todoroki stood there, chest heaving, eyes blazing with defiance. Despite the frost clinging to his skin and his trembling body, he looked more alive than ever.

But I caught a flicker of doubt in his eyes, a hesitation that threatened to pull him back into the shadows of his father's legacy.

I couldn't let that happen. Not when he was so close to breaking free.

"Is that it, Todoroki?" I called out. "Is this how you want your story to end? Shackled by your father's expectations, denying half of who you are?"

Todoroki's eyes widened, his breath catching. The conflict raged within him, visible in every tense line of his body.

"Your fire, your power... it's not his!" I yelled. "It's yours, Todoroki! Yours to command, yours to control, yours to use as you see fit!"

I took a step forward, fist clenched. "You get to choose, Todoroki. You get to decide what kind of hero you want to be, what kind of future you want to create."

For a moment, everything went still. Then, slowly, a hint of orange bloomed on Todoroki's left side.

It started small, just a whisper of flame on his fingertips. But as we watched, it grew. It spread, engulfing his hand, his arm, the entire left half of his body.

The ice encasing him melted, steam rising in billowing clouds. His clothes smoldered, his hair danced, his skin glowed with inner fire.

And his eyes burned with newfound resolve.

"You're right, Midoriya," he said, voice low but strong. "This fire... it's mine. My quirk, my choice, my path to walk."

He stepped forward, flames whirling around him. "And I choose to embrace it. To wield it, not as a tool of my father's ambition, but as an extension of my own will, my own dreams."

I grinned, fierce and proud. This was what I'd been fighting for. What I'd been pushing Todoroki towards with every clash of our quirks and convictions.

"Then show me," I challenged, dropping into my stance. "Show me the hero you want to be, Todoroki. Show me your true power, your true self!"

Todoroki's answering grin was wild and bright. "With pleasure, Midoriya."

He charged, fire and ice erupting from his hands in a dazzling display. I dodged left, then right, my mind racing to analyze his new fighting style.

His movements were different now, more fluid, more unpredictable. The fire added a new dimension to his attacks, forcing me to constantly reassess and adapt.

I ducked under a stream of flames, feeling the heat singe my hair. In that split second, I noticed how Todoroki was favoring his right side, compensating for the sudden use of his left.

An opening.

I feinted right, then pivoted sharply left. Todoroki's eyes widened as he realized his mistake too late.

My fist connected with his solar plexus, driving the air from his lungs. He stumbled back, gasping.

But Todoroki was far from beaten. He recovered quickly, sending a wave of ice rushing towards me.

I leaped, using the frozen structures as stepping stones. As I vaulted over Todoroki's head, I saw him tracking my movement, preparing a counter.

Time seemed to slow as I twisted in mid-air, my foot lashing out in a kick aimed at his shoulder.

Todoroki brought up his left arm, a shield of fire blooming to life. The heat was intense, forcing me to pull back.

We landed on opposite sides of the arena, both breathing hard, both grinning like maniacs.

I locked eyes with Todoroki across the arena. His left side blazed with fire, his right coated in frost. We'd pushed each other to our limits, but I knew this wasn't over yet.

"Let's end this, Todoroki!" I shouted, channeling power through my body. The familiar surge of energy coursed through me as I pushed to 10%, far beyond what I'd used before. Electricity crackled along my skin, the hair on my head standing straight.

Todoroki nodded, a fierce grin on his face. "You're on, Midoriya!"

We launched ourselves at each other, the ground cracking beneath our feet. Time seemed to slow as we soared through the air, our final attacks ready to collide.

But then, rising between us like a tidal wave of stone, a massive wall of cement erupted from the ground. Cementoss, trying to stop us before we destroyed the arena.

In that split second, I made my choice. No holding back. No second-guessing.

"RAIJIN!" I roared, electricity exploding from my fist as I slammed it into the wall.

On the other side, I heard Todoroki's answering cry, felt the searing heat and biting cold of his own ultimate attack.

The wall didn't stand a chance.

It exploded outward in a maelstrom of fire, ice, lightning, and shattered concrete. The shockwave hit me like a freight train, sending me flying backward. Pain lanced through my right arm, and I felt something give way inside it.

I tumbled across the arena floor, my body a mass of bruises and burns. When I finally skidded to a stop, my right side was completely numb. I tried to push myself up, but my arm wouldn't respond.

Through the settling dust and debris, I saw Todoroki. He was down, sprawled across the rubble just outside the boundary line.

Midnight's voice cut through the ringing in my ears. "Shoto Todoroki is out of bounds! Izuku Midoriya wins!"
