Desmond dreamed of permission to go forward for years. Their once innocent kisses turned heated along the way yet they were stuck in the confines of purity, not knowing what the future truly held for them. 

Considering they were caught by her father before and then Desmond was sent far away, he knew it had been wise not to push her for more. Even if his body begged him to go beyond what they were allowed, he managed to contain himself.

However, the innocence of her reaction and being led entirely by feelings was endearing to him. He wanted to cherish her and be careful with her.
