"Luckily Ruxue and the Prince are engaged already, otherwise we would not have managed to escape the calamity this time. We owe it to Ruxue!" Gu Zhenkang said gratefully.
Madame Gu looked slightly assured as well.
They threw an even more disdainful look at Gu Chaoyan and did not want to speak to her about it any longer.
Soon, Chen Fu came rushing in. "Old Master, the Prince is here."
When Madame Gu and Gu Zhenkang heard the news, they smiled brightly.
Lu Jiming walked upto them, looking extremely arrogant. He enjoyed being the savior of the Gu Family. "I have heard about what happened. We can either make a fuss over it or just ignore it. I have some relations with the Wang Family, enough to be counted as friends. If I talk to them, they would not blame you for anything, but…"
Madame Gu and Gu Zhenkang both held their breath, wondering what the Prince was going to say.
Lu Jiming threw a look at Gu Chaoyan whose head remained lowered. He was feeling rather cheerful looking at the spectacle. This hideous woman turned down his proposal a couple of days ago and that had pissed him off. Even if it had been her petty trick to attract his attention, he was still quite displeased about being embarrassed in front of everyone.
"I can't help save this person!" Lu Jiming looked proud.
Gu Zhenkang let out a sigh of relief.
As long as Gu Mansion was doing well, he didn't care about anything else. Glaring at Gu Chaoyan, Gu Zhenkang said, "This jinxed girl has never done anything good. Helping her would bring us even more trouble!"
He ordered Chen Fu to get the wagons ready to make a trip to the Wang Family.
Gu Chaoyan had said nothing from the beginning till this point, and no one had even bothered to ask her for a clarification.
Apparently, she was not worth caring about.
In their eyes, Gu Chaoyan would soon be a corpse.
Gu Chaoyan sneered. Her so-called family was wishing for her death so gleefully. What on earth had the original host done that she got a father like this?
She and Qing were pushed in the wagon unceremoniously.
Qing had been holding her tears in, not because she was scared, but because she felt that her miss was being mistreated. Her mistress was motherless, and her father was giving her a step-fatherly treatment. How unfair was that!
Gu Chaoyan patted Qing's shoulders to console her.
She was not upset though. Gu Zhenkang was not her father anyway, so she had no expectations, hence no disappointment.
Soon they reached the Wang Family. The place was big enough to house a large family comfortably and in style.
Thanks to Lu Jiming, they entered the house directly.
Gu Chaoyan, however, was forced to follow them under the supervision of the guards.
They came to the mansion's hall.
Lu Jiming came to stand next to Gu Chaoyan and said arrogantly, "What a shame! If you had agreed to marry me as a concubine, you would not be left alone like this. You would have, at least, kept your life today."
Having said the words, Lu Jiming looked at Gu Chaoyan, hoping to see misery and fear on her face.
Gu Chaoyan, however, displayed absolute calm. She was standing there with a detached expression on her face.
This made Lu Jiming extremely unhappy. He snorted. "Huh! Just die then!"
He walked away on a huff and went forward.
Gu Zhenkang was feeling quite nervous. It was the first time for him to visit a grand place like this. He was here to apologize. But, if the whole thing went smoothly, he might end up establishing a good relationship with the prestigious Wang Family.
