In the darkness, Lyra's face flushed with embarrassment.

She held the thin blanket in her hands and said in an even softer voice, "Those words weren't just made up by me. You've done all those things before. I was just telling the truth."

He was silent, his hand around her waist tightening, the palm of his hand rubbing her side. Lyra felt a mixture of ticklish and warm sensations.

Lyra shifted slightly.

"Go to sleep," his voice came from next to her ear.

She lay still, and after a silence of about ten seconds, she asked, "Morris, are you okay?"
