The rest of the events went in a similar vein. Some people excelled in certain events since their quirks were suitable for them, while others had to find creative solutions around their disadvantage. The one common denominator for all the events was that Midoriya Izuku, in an effort to hold himself back from using his quirk, received one of the lowest scores across all the events.
For the second event, the grip test, Yasuo directly crushed the measurement device into pieces with his Psychokinetic force, looking embarrassed. 'Aizawa did tell me to go all out, after all.'
There wasn't even a score recorded since the device had been destroyed. Aizawa stared blankly and recorded the highest score the machine could detect, which was 999.9kg.
The third event, the long jump, ended in the same way as the first, with Yasuo simply flying over the sand pit with ease.
The fourth event, side-stepping, had to be done with Yasuo's physical body, which was enhanced by his Psychic Armour so he just as easily got an excellent timing.
The fifth event, softball throwing, was much more eventful. Ochaco Uraraka had managed to get an infinity score on her turn by nullifying the effects of gravity on the ball and throwing the now weightless board all the way up into space.
Yasuo had saw that and wondered if it was possible for him to throw hard enough for the ball to breach the stratosphere and results similar to Uraraka, whose name he had learned during the Quirk Apprehension Test.
There was also a slight commotion between Izuku Midoriya and Eraserhead before the One For All inheritor managed to launch the softball up to 705.3 metres.
Yasuo was impressed the weak looking kid was actually hiding a strength enhancing quirk the entire time, which seemed irrational to the Psychokinesis quirk user as there were many opportunities to use his quirk in the previous events. The grip test for example would have been suitable to test his quirk.
But when Midoriya showed that he had actually broken a finger, Yasuo understood why. How unfortunate, but Yasuo also mentally criticized the boy. He himself possessed a powerful quirk, which was also why he spent such a long time training how to control it. Why Izuku did not do something similar was baffling to Yasuo.
Of course, there was no way for Yasuo to have known that Izuku had only recently inherited the One For All quirk from All Might and was thus not yet able to regulate its power.
Then from Yasuo's perspective, the delinquent, Bakugo Katsuki, had angrily rushed at Izuku for some reason. Only to be stopped by Aizawa's scarf, revealing that Class 1A's homeroom teacher was actually the Erasure Hero: Eraserhead!
Yasuo was shocked. There actually existed a quirk user who could erase another person's quirk! He thought to himself, what could he do if his Psychokinesis quirk was erased? The answer was a crushing 'nothing'.
Though Yasuo had been troubled by this new revelation, he shook off the concern and decided to focus on what he could control for now. So when it was his turn, he had taken the ball and floated it between his palms.
As the ball floated in mid-air, Yasuo channelled a significant amount of psychic energy and wrapping it around the ball. The condensed, and massive amounts of Psychokinetic energy spun the ball rapidly, creating a tiny whirlwind around Yasuo. The air around the ball blurred because of just how dense and how compact the energy he had layered on the ball had become.
With an intense look of concentration, Yasuo directed the ball towards the sky and summoned up one last burst of energy, blasting the softball into the air. A large shockwave thundered around his figure, throwing gust of wind into his surroundings.
The ball rocketed up into the air with several loud booms, indicating it broke past the sound barrier and even exceeded the speed of sound by multiple times.
The contrail that followed the flight of the hypersonic softball reached up high in to the sky before stopping right as it was about to break through the stratosphere. A large hole had been blown through the clouds high up above U.A., with no indication of the small little softball ever falling back down.
The class of 1A, once again stared at the phenomena slack-jawed, wondering just how in the world Yasuo had managed to accomplish this.
Aizawa stared up at the sky as well, his dull eyes widening in disbelief. 'This kid, even though I told him to go all out, I didn't expect something like this.'
"Beep." The measuring device in Aizawa's hands beeped, and with a cocked eyebrow, he showed Yasuo its results.
The boy in question was panting while sweating profusely, holding back a grimace from the vicious headache that had come about after overexertion of his quirk.
He glanced at the measuring device and tilted his head in confusion, "Error? What does that mean?"
Aizawa lazily responded although he was indeed truly dumbfounded. But he had to preserve some dignity as their homeroom teacher after all. "It probably means that the ball was destroyed, so it couldn't send back an accurate measurement of the distance. My best guess – the ball was going so fast, the air resistance and friction resulted it in going up to such a high temperature that it got burned up and the internal circuitry was fried."
Yasuo frowned, "Dang it, I was hoping to get an infinity symbol like Uraraka."
"There's a huge difference between throwing it so fast that it breaks through the atmosphere and removing it's gravity so that it goes into outer space y'know!?" Some of the louder ones in class exclaimed in disbelief at Yasuo's casual demeanour.
Aizawa muttered to himself while fidgeting with the measuring device, "I'll just rank his score directly below Uraraka."
Momo approached Yasuo and shook her head, "How is anyone supposed to follow up after such a performance. You have given me such pressure."
The Psychokinetic quirk user rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, "My bad, Momo. I was just trying to see how far I could send the ball flying."
"Fufu, no worries, I was just joking."
The sixth event, endurance running was a pretty simple and straightforward event that tested how fast they could run at long distance. They had to run 2.4 kilometres around the running track and Yasuo managed it in 50 seconds at a pace of roughly 48 metres per second.
It did get slightly dizzying for Yasuo who was flying around in circles at such a fast pace, but thankfully he managed to hold in his breakfast.
The seventh event, sit-ups, was completed with relative ease by Yasuo who could just use the Psychic Armor wrapped around his body to very quickly move his torso up and down. He completed a 100 sit-ups within the 1 minute time limit.
Most of the other students didn't have quirks that would help them with such a test; only the naturally flexible Tsuyu Asui with strong core muscles, Ochaco Uraraka who could make her body weightless, Fumikage Tokoyami who used his shadow partner, Dark Shadow, as well as Momo Yaoyoruzu who created a rubber bounce pad that helped her bounce her body up and down, much to the delight of several of the male students who had the pleasure of watching the bouncing.
The last event, seated-toe-touch, was the only one Yasuo couldn't use his quirk to help him. No matter how powerful his Psychokinesis was, unless he was willing to break his spine to stretch all the way past his toes, he could only rely on his body's natural flexibility. Which was above average thanks to his physical training at his soccer club.
After Momo Yaoyorozu, the last person to attempt the final event, was done with her test, the Quirk Apprehension Test was finally over.
"Time for the results." Aizawa announced, holding on to a holographic projection device, which seemed to be a staple technology here in U.A.
While some students were anxious, worried that they did not have the opportunity to really show what they could do, others were confident – Yasuo, for instance, was positive he had gotten first place since his quirk was so versatile that only one of the eight events he had to use his body's natural physical capabilities.
Izuku, on the other hand, was too terrified to even open his eyes. All he could think about was the seven other events that he did not use All Might's quirk for. 'Am I… going to be expelled..!?'
It was honestly an embarrassing result. There were others in class whose quirks did not help them with the Quirk Apprehension Test. Toru Hagakure, for example, only had an invisibility quirk which did nothing to enhance her physical capabilities. Yet, her overall results, while poor, still exceeded Izuku Midoriya in many events.
That was because for people who knew their quirks wasn't physically powerful, they had trained their physical fitness to be able to compete and excel in U.A. Yet, despite Midoriya's supposed determination and conviction to be come a pro-hero, he did nothing to train himself other than the ten months he spent with All Might.
As a result, people like Denki Kaminari and Kyoka Jiro, whose Electrification quirk and Earphone Jack quirk respectively, similarly did not help them at all with the Quirk Apprehension Test, still did better than Midoriya Izuku.
As the projection device displayed a hologram of the Quirk Apprehension Test results, Aizawa added, "By the way, I was lying about expelling someone."
"Whaaaa!?" The class exclaimed.
"That was a ration deception, meant to make you lot take this test seriously." He explained.
Momo Yaoyorozu quirked an eyebrow, "Well of course that was a lie. Didn't take much to figure that out."
Yasuo had glanced at the girl next to him, "Really? I thought he meant it… he looked pretty serious about it."
"Wouldn't it be irrational to expel a student solely based on the results of a quirk test that seems heavily biased towards people with suitable quirks?" She posited.
"But your quirk can't be considered a suitable quirk for such a test, yet you still got second place. I figured that he was trying to test our creativity." Yasuo retorted, pointing at the results of the Quirk Apprehension Test that was being displayed.
Crossing her arms, Momo inquired,"I'd say my quirk is suitable for almost any situation, wouldn't you agree?"
"Only because you're smart enough to make it so." Yasuo praised, purposefully avoiding staring at her chest that was pushed up from her crossed arms. He wondered if that act was intentional.
"Well, I suppose."
He tilted his head in amusement, "You're not denying it at all, huh?"
She gave him a pointed look, "And is there something wrong with being confident? We're in the Hero Course after all, no sense in being unnecessarily modest about our strengths as long as we are aware of our own weaknesses."
Yasuo smiled, "Not at all. I think confidence is an admirable trait, Momo. And you seem to have that in spades."
"Fu fu, just as much as you do with your own incredible quirk, no?" Momo chuckled.
"That, I can't deny haha."
In first place was Yasuo Kurogami by a long shot although the results did not display the details of his placement in the various events. Based on the other students' performance however, he was sure he got first place in six events out of the eight total.
First runner up was Momo Yaoyorozu, a result that showcased her intelligence and creativity. A Creation quirk like hers needed its user to be both smart and flexible on what objects to create and in what situation. While a physical enhancement quirk might seem like the best type of quirk for such a Quirk Apprehension Test, the fact that she got second place, only falling behind Yasuo, was a testament to her ingenuity.
In last place, however, was Izuku Midoriya, who as expected looked devastated, but at the same time relieved he would not be expelled.
Shoto Todoroki looked at the two names that was above his and glanced towards the pair who were chatting. If he wasn't able to get first place with just his right side, how was he supposed to become the number 1 hero without relying on his left side? Furthermore, the first place student, Kurogami Yasuo… what a terrifying quirk.
Consciously, Shoto started simulating counter measures against Yasuo if they ever were to meet in battle. 'The best bet would be a surprise attack huh… if I can freeze him before he can react with his quirk, then victory would be mine.'
Of course, Todoroki would not have been able to know about Yasuo's Psychic Armor as well as the fact that it was wrapped around him permanently.
'Fourth…? I got fourth place!?' Katsuki Bakugo glared at the results displayed, 'That damn ink-hair bastard, some exhibitionist ponytail girl and a shitty half-and-half? They all surpassed me? Even though I am the protagonist and they're just extras!?'
'And that damn useless Deku too… that bastard was just making a fool out of me the whole time, huh!? That pisses me off!!'
With that, the Quirk Apprehension Test was over. Class 1A was dismissed and we were sent back to class for normal lessons for the rest of the day.
