Isaac's mind went blank for a moment, and he couldn't think of any secrets to reveal. However, he felt half-dead, unable to withstand another electric shock, so he decided to risk it: "We... we made a deal with the gang!"
Jaden's eyes widened in disbelief. "What the hell, are you serious? Do you know what gangs do? They'll kill your whole family!"
He cursed loudly, "Isaac, you fucking idiot, some things you should never say! Shut the fuck up!"
Isaac's dark face turned a faint red, but he stubbornly replied, "Fuck it, if I don't speak now, we're all gonna die here!"
"I've still got a wife! She's pregnant with my child, do you want her to die?"
Isaac's face suddenly paled, as if something was about to be said, but Cohen interrupted him.
"White pig, stop yelling, it's your turn now."
Jaden stopped cursing and fixed his gaze on Isaac. "Earlier I told you five thousand dollars could buy a promotion to sheriff, but in reality, it only takes three thousand. I pocketed two thousand."
Isaac's eyes widened instantly. His white irises were very noticeable. "Shift, we've been partners for five years, and you've been stealing from me? You white pig, I knew you were a racist bastard!"
Isaac swore loudly, and when he paused for breath, Cohen spoke up.
"Alright, black bastard, it's your turn now."
Isaac took a few deep breaths. "Most of the people in the 21st precinct are involved with the gangs!"
Jaden sighed deeply, feeling helpless. They were done for. The gang wouldn't let them go, and neither would the police.
He cursed himself for partnering with Isaac in the first place. The guy was just too dumb!
"Interesting," came Cohen's laughter from the darkness. "Your turn, white pig."
Jaden's mind boiled with anger, but he still tried to resist.
If he was going down, at least he wouldn't drag his family down with him, right?
He thought, if he mentioned a few things that didn't directly involve the gangs, maybe he wouldn't get into too much trouble.
He tried to steer Isaac's words: "Our 18th precinct chief, Charlie, took bribes and helped a rapist get off the hook!"
As long as he focused on the dirty affairs within the police force, they wouldn't cause too much trouble.
After all, the police usually followed the law. At least his family wouldn't be dragged into it.
And there were plenty of similar stories. They could talk for a while!
This time, without Cohen prompting him, Isaac voluntarily continued: "Yes, I've heard about it too. I even heard he had a mistress, a gangster's lover, and that gangster grew stronger because of his help."
Jaden was done.
He only had one thought now: if he had another life, he'd never partner with a black guy again!
The more he thought, the angrier he got. If Isaac wanted to be reckless, then fine. Jaden let it all out.
He said angrily, "Isaac, when we first became partners, I once treated you to a drink and introduced you to a friend. He wasn't my friend. I met him at the bar. He was gay. After you got drunk and woke up, your mouth was dry, and you—"
Isaac froze, his face full of disbelief. He suddenly lunged at Jaden, enraged. "I knew it! Fucking asshole!"
They started yelling at each other, cursing in anger, the air thick with insults.
Until a slow, steady countdown brought them back to reality: "Five, four, three…"
Isaac knew it was his turn. He decided to get revenge.
He licked his lips and said, "Jaden, I—fuck—your wife!"
The room fell into silence.
The white man narrowed his eyes, clearly not believing it. He sneered, "Your intention to get back at me is too obvious. You'd better think of something else, or we'll get shocked again…"
"Your turn, white pig."
A calm voice came from the darkness.
Jaden hesitated, forcing a smile. "He's lying. You've investigated it, haven't you? He's lying!"
The room sank into an unprecedented silence.
Isaac's dark face showed a cruel smile, a row of white teeth seemingly mocking Jaden's helplessness.
Cohen's voice, patient as ever, echoed: "I've investigated it. So, it's your turn!"
Jaden looked in disbelief at the figure in the darkness, then at Isaac, feeling lost.
Isaac's deep voice whispered in his ear: "Dear Jaden, I didn't lie. In fact, we were both into each other. I know you like her in black lace, and she likes... doggy style."
"Fuck!"
Jaden roared, launching himself at Isaac, while Isaac laughed confidently.
The revenge reached its peak…
---
In a French high-end restaurant.
After a series of friendly conversations, Jin Bing seemed to have something to say.
He habitually touched the cufflinks on his wrist.
Vanessa's eyes sharpened. "Is this something precious to you?"
"Yes," he said. "It belongs to my father. It's a memento of him, and I remember him this way. Every time I think of him, I think of my childhood, and then of my dreams, and then this city."
Vanessa frowned. "What do they have to do with each other?"
"When I was a child, I saw the depravity of human nature, and as I grew up, it became even clearer. When I was young, I thought the world was simple, and this city was simple, but it's not.
But I love this city deeply. Transforming it is my ideal."
He paused for a moment and glanced at the bag on Vanessa's side. "Do you have a gun?"
Vanessa hesitated, then after a moment of silence, she replied, "It's dangerous here."
Jin Bing sighed. "That's exactly what I wanted to tell you. It is indeed dangerous here."
He glanced out the window. "Gangs everywhere, chaos, a lack of order. What this city needs is a strong order!"
Vanessa hesitated, and after a moment, asked, "That day, the Devil Face said you were…"
Jin Bing pressed his lips together. "I've lied to many people, but I don't want to lie to you."
"The truth, I'm afraid, is exactly what you think."
He took a deep breath. "In the past, I've hurt many people, and in the future, I may hurt even more. But I don't do this for pleasure. In fact, I'm deeply troubled by it."
He looked deeply into Vanessa's eyes. "Everything I do is for this city. Look at those useless police officers. They can't protect the people here; instead, they are a hindrance. I will break those chains and give them a new life.
I'll set new rules, and everyone will follow them!"
"This city was once glorious, but over time, it has decayed. Only I can save it!"
Vanessa seemed stunned, staring at Kingpin.
He took her hand gently, his eyes soft. "With me, you'll never need to use that gun."
Vanessa hesitated for a long time, then slowly picked up her bag from the table, took out a silver lady's pistol, and handed it to him.
A satisfied smile appeared on Kingpin face.
"So, you've made your choice. Are you ready to enter my world?"
Vanessa smiled shyly. "Yes, I think I'm ready."
"Clap!"
Jin Bing clapped his hands.
Instantly, the restaurant echoed with the sound of chairs being moved as all the surrounding guests stood up in perfect synchrony, silently leaving.
Vanessa was shocked to realize there were no real guests, or rather, only the two of them were there.
Jin Bing took her hand and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. "I've prepared a fireworks show for you. You'll love it."
