After the battle, Jay had a few words with Fury about the situation. Seeing the look on Fury's face when he realized that after causing such a commotion, Thor just flew off like it was none of his business, really put a smile on Jay's face.
Sitting on the plane back, Jay started to think about the development of future events.
"Now that Thor has come to Earth and returned to Asgard, Loki will also have been dropped from the Rainbow Bridge after destroying it. After meeting the purple potato head, he will then lead the Chitauri to attack New York."
As he was considering how to deal with the New York war—whether to send Charlotte off somewhere or just outright put a stop to Loki's plan from the get-go and look at his face while laughing—several flying figures suddenly appeared outside, crashing into the plane hull and shaking it. This snapped Jay out of his thoughts. Using his X-ray vision, he saw a red and silver-gray suit being pursued by a group of robots attacking them.
"Hammer's industry drones? Ah, so it's this event."
Seeing as they moved down toward a scenic park and began fighting, Jay comforted Charlotte and then excused himself before jumping out of the plane and flying toward them. From another direction, another figure was also flying toward the same direction.
Down at the park, Tony and Rhodey were fighting Hammer's drones. While their suits were much better compared to the drones made by Ivan, the number of drones was dozens of times more. As fierce as their fighting was, it was not enough, and the drones began to swarm and suppress them. Seeing this, Tony turned to Rhodey.
"Rhodey! Get down!"
Hearing his stern tone, Rhodey immediately ducked down, and Tony's suit hand fired out two beams of high-temperature lasers, swinging his hand around the drones as if cutting through butter with a hot knife. The drones were cut in half, dropping down with a few sparks spraying out.
"You should have used that at the start," Rhodey said as he stood up and faced Tony.
"It's a one-time thing, chief," he said as his suit hand discharged two small energy batteries.
Before they could celebrate, another bigger suit dropped down from the sky. The helmet opened, revealing Ivan Vanko.
"It's good to be back," Ivan said with a wicked smile on his face.
After the Hulk and Abomination fight in Harlem, Jay had sent Tony to a hospital while he was unconscious, so he missed his flight to Monaco and didn't have to fight Ivan. But fate would eventually correct itself, and while he was about to be done with some troublesome procedures to discharge from the hospital, Ivan attacked him with an improvised suit. Luckily, like in the original story, Happy was there with the Mark 5 suit, and Tony was barely able to defeat him.
"I got something special for this guy. I'm gonna bust his bunker with the Ex-wife," Rhodey said as he confidently stepped up and opened up a small launcher on his shoulders.
"The what now?" Tony asked weirdly. When did Rhodey get married? Why didn't he invite him? And why would he shoot his ex-wife at Ivan?
After some charging, the small rocket fired toward Ivan but just hit him and harmlessly dropped to the ground, not even scratching the surface of the suit. Tony rolled his eyes and turned to face Rhodey as if looking at an idiot.
"Hammer's tech?"
"Yeah..." Rhodey embarrassingly replied while cursing Justin Hammer in his head.
Soon the two broke out in battle. They tried to attack from afar with Tony's mini missiles and Rhodey's machine gun, but they just left some sparks on the armor with no visible damage. Ivan then used his electric whip to attack them, causing them to resort to melee fighting. But Ivan was much more experienced in this aspect and easily beat them, wrapping them with his whip and slowly burning through their armor, cooking them alive inside their suits, which had now become their coffins.
When the situation seemed helpless and Tony was wracking his head on how not to be electrocuted to death, a pair of laser beams shot down from above and cut off both of the electric whips. A stunned trio froze for a moment before simultaneously looking up only to see a man floating in mid-air.
Jay then flew down, smacking Ivan's Whiplash suit to the ground. Before Ivan could react, Jay stabbed his hands in the middle of the armor and ripped it in half, leaving Ivan lying in pure shock and terror. Pulling Ivan out from the armor remnants, Jay threw him before the duo as if he were nothing more than a bag of trash.
"Well, he's all yours. Also, I suggest you get out of here quickly before the drones explode," Jay said as he flew out of the place before Tony or Rhodey could respond.
As Jay had said, the energy core in the drones and on Ivan's chest turned red and started beeping as if counting down. While this was happening, Ivan, shocked and angry at the man who had shown up to stop him from killing Stark, laughed out loud.
"Even if I die, I'm going out with a bang and dragging you all with me to hell!"
He thought as the explosion engulfed him and the surrounding areas. The explosion also happened in other places as when they were fighting in mid-air, Tony and Rhodey also managed to take down some drones. Tony, worried for Pepper's safety, flew at his fastest speed toward the exposition, while Rhodey moved to evacuate civilians from the bomb.
At one of the wreckages, a small crowd gathered around it, wondering what it was when the energy core turned red and began to beep as if counting down. This was when the curious crowd of people realized something was wrong and began running away. A kid in the crowd, while running, tripped and fell down, not managing to get out of the blast radius. When the drone went off and a massive explosion occurred, the boy curled up in a ball, bracing for impact.
But he didn't feel any pain except his eardrums ringing from the explosion. When he looked up, there was a dark, shadowy figure in high-tech-looking armor covering him from the blast, protecting him with his tall body. Jay, floating in the sky above New York City, sighed in relief. Luckily, he remembered the final scene when the explosion happened across the city. While in the movie it was cool, in reality, if he didn't send his Shadow soldiers to protect people from the bombs, it would have killed many and caused more damage.
He was also pleased with the test run with the newest troops that he acquired, replacing the ones that he had raised using the bodies of criminals that he had killed. Using his 10% from Stark Industries, he made some purchases in the systems to buy 100 Spartan soldier bodies from the Halo game franchise. Each cost him 10 million to buy and equipped with a set of Mjolnir Mark VI Powered Assault Armor, an M395 DMR, an energy sword, and the iconic M6D pistol from the first game.
While it was heartbreaking to see a billion gone in the blink of an eye, the soldiers' performance didn't disappoint him. They rapidly moved across the city and protected the normal people, some even using their bodies to cover the bombs, significantly reducing the blast radius.
He didn't stay for long. After retrieving the shadows, he left, catching up to his plane home. All the while, a little kid wearing an Iron Man mask was marveling at how he had been saved twice today by superheroes and dreaming of how one day he would do the same.
