Vivian's POV

I answer Marcus truthfully, "Yes, because there is actually someone's ass I'd like to kick. And no, because I don't feel comfortable telling you everything right now—at least, not tonight. I barely know you, Marcus. I'm not just going to pour my heart out to you."

He places a hand over his chest in mock pain. "Ouch."

"I didn't mean it in a bad way," I say quickly, feeling a pang of guilt at the hurt in his tone, even if it's feigned.

"Yeah, I get it." He shrugs, then leans against the car casually. "So, what's it going to take for you to open up?"

"I don't know." I sigh. "Let's just see."

He studies me for a moment, his brown eyes softening with understanding. Then, with a sudden grin, he changes the subject. "Well, I hope you haven't eaten yet, because I know just the thing to cheer you up. How about seafood? There's this amazing restaurant I know—my favorite spot. I promise you'll love it."
