Who should I sell to in the end? Jake hesitated. Although he had reached a verbal agreement with Amy yesterday, as this Mr. Eric pointed out, it was only a verbal agreement and had no binding force. He could change his mind if he wanted to.
Sell to Mr. Eric? Jake wasn't very willing, especially when he saw the arrogant and bullying demeanor of the man, it made him feel annoyed. Just because you offer a higher price, doesn't mean I will sell to you. I won't!
"Jake, please trust me and sell this batch of wood to me," Amy pleaded, looking at Jake with a lower stance than before.
"Jake, think it through," Mr. Eric cautioned, almost as a warning. "If you sell the wood to me, not only will you get a higher price, but you'll also receive cash. If you sell it to her, you might end up with nothing! I'm sure Mr. Jake understands the difference."
"I understand," Jake said. "However, once I've made a decision, I won't easily change it. Therefore, I'm selling this batch of wood to Amy."
"Thank you, thank you," Amy expressed her gratitude.
"Hmph!" Mr. Eric, realizing that the deal was unlikely to happen, no longer had the same enthusiasm in his eyes when looking at Jake. His face turned cold as he said, "I have to remind you that you might have made a very wrong decision."
"That's fine with me," Jake casually replied. "It's just a bit of purple sandalwood. I don't care about it. If I incur losses, so be it."
Jake's words might have sounded like boasting to Amy and Mr. Eric. Purple sandalwood was not ordinary wood. The batch Jake brought alone was worth millions. Even the big bosses wouldn't dare to say they wouldn't care about such a sum.
However, Amy didn't say anything to Jake, while Mr. Eric openly displayed his disdain, thinking that Jake was just bragging.
Jake could sense their disbelief, but he didn't explain himself. It wasn't easy to explain either. Could he say that he had abundant valuable wood resources? The current batch was just a negligible part, merely a test?
"I hope, Jake, that you can remain so relaxed when you can't collect your payment in two months," Mr. Eric said.
"That's not your concern, Mr. Eric," Jake said.
Seeing that the deal couldn't be made, Mr. Eric had no reason to stay here. Staying would only make himself angry. However, before leaving, Mr. Eric seemed unwilling to give up. Or rather, he was puzzled. "Can you tell me why you refuse to sell to me? I want to know the real reason. Is it because of her?"
Mr. Eric clearly didn't believe Jake's explanation. Could a businessman refuse a deal just because of his mood? He believed that Amy might have used other means, such as sex seduction.
Even Mr. Eric had to admit that Amy was a rare beauty, and Jake was a young and spirited young man. It would be normal to be captivated by her. If it was because of this reason, Mr. Eric would accept it, but he would use it against Amy and tarnish her reputation.
Jake subconsciously glanced at Amy and had to admit that Mr. Eric's suspicion of being captivated by Amy's beauty was reasonable. Amy indeed had the looks for it. However, Jake's refusal was not due to that reason.
On the other hand, when Amy noticed Jake looking at her, her face blushed slightly, and her head lowered. She wondered if Jake really agreed to the deal because of her beauty.
Amy was confident in her appearance. She had always been considered a beauty since she was young and received compliments and pursuit from others.
Regarding Jake's resolute rejection of Mr. Eric's high price, although Amy felt grateful to Jake, she also questioned why Jake would do so. She and Jake didn't have any particular relationship, so why didn't Jake choose Mr. Eric, who offered a higher price and immediate cash? Could it be because of her? Amy didn't know what emotions she should be feeling right now. Should she be proud or annoyed?
"Of course not." While Amy was lost in her thoughts, Jake had already spoken, "As for the reason, I've already said it. I don't like doing business with you. It's not something I made up; it's what I truly think."
The reason Jake refused Mr. Eric was because of the way he conducted business, similar to the shopkeeper Mason in the game world. Jake didn't like it, and seeing Mr. Eric acting so certain only made him more displeased.
In the past, even if he was unhappy, Jake would have to reluctantly do business with Mr. Eric. After all, he needed money, and who would have trouble with money? But the current Jake was different, and his mindset had changed.
In fact, if possible, Jake could have sold this batch of wood to Mr.Eric first, earning a profit from him, and then cut down more wood from the forest to sell to Amy.
However, time didn't allow it. After returning to the game world, Jake had to prepare to report to the county town. He couldn't be late for that, so Jake didn't have extra time for logging.
"Hmph!" Mr. Eric, angered by Jake's words, turned red in the face and left without looking back.
"Thank you for trusting me. Don't worry, I will transfer the payment to you on time," Amy expressed her gratitude to Jake again after Mr. Eric left.
"If I choose to do business with you, it means I trust you," Jake said.
"Thank you," Amy said, "You've done me a great favor." Her words were sincere and earnest.
