章節 1: The End

The sun hung low in the Namibian sky, casting long shadows across the arid landscape. Luther, a 24-year-old taxi driver from the small town of Omafo, navigated the dusty roads with a practiced ease. Namibia, a land of breathtaking beauty, had become a hotspot for tourists seeking adventure amidst its wild wonders.

One sweltering evening, Luther found himself driving two young girls to a club. His eyes, though, were not on the road but on the passengers in his rearview mirror. The girls, oblivious to his scrutiny, soon grew uneasy under his gaze.

"Ah, mister, why are you staring at us like that, are you a pervert?" one of the girls asked, her tone laced with concern.

He chuckled, a deep, throaty sound. "A pervert? Haha, good one. I am staring at you two because you both seem young but you are already wearing such clothes. I am just worried for both of you, that's all."

The girl furrowed her brow. "Hmm? You mean we are dressed inappropriately? If so, then you shouldn't worry. We only go to clubs to pass time, we don't do drugs or sleep with people." She managed an awkward smile.

He sighed, his concern etched on his face. "Well, it's not really my place to judge you guys, but please be careful. It's a cruel world out there."

"Thank you, mister," the girl replied earnestly.

"No problem," he said, his eyes reflecting a mix of worry and resignation as he dropped them off at the club. They waved, their youthful exuberance belying the caution he had tried to instill.

"Sigh, I guess what I said didn't mean anything to them," he muttered to himself, resuming his route through the city.

The midday sun beat down relentlessly as Luther savored his lunch break, his usual routine unfolding at KKC, a modest eatery in Omafo. With a tray of food before him, he momentarily forgot the day's irritations. Yet, his peace was short-lived. David, a friend of dubious loyalty, ambled in and promptly seized his last remaining wing.

"I see you're taking my food as always, David," Luther remarked, his annoyance evident in his stare.

"Come on, we're bros, aren't we?" he countered with a grin.

"Bros, my ass. All you do is leech off me. When was the last time you bought me a meal?" his tone was laced with frustration.

"Uhh, last week?" he said, attempting confidence.

"Son of a b…, sigh, it was last year, you idiot." he shook his head in disappointment.

"Haha, don't worry, I'll buy lunch next time,"

"Sigh, whatever."

"Anyways, man, when are you getting a girlfriend?" David probed, ever the provocateur.

"We've talked about this. I'll get a girl when I'm financially ready,"

"Wimp," David teased, barely containing his laughter.

"You're such an asshole," He retorted, a wry smile breaking through his irritation.

Their banter continued until they finished their meals. David left first, leaving Luther alone with his thoughts. As he stared at his phone, catching up on the latest news, he mused, "Seems anime is getting more popular. Too bad I just don't have time to watch shows like I used to."

As He stepped outside, the world seemed ordinary until he glanced upward. The sky, once a serene blue, had transformed into a fiery red canvas. His eyes widened in terror as he beheld a colossal meteor hurtling toward him.

"Holy fuck," he gasped, adrenaline flooding his veins. He sprinted toward his car, desperate to escape the impending disaster. His hands trembled as he fumbled for his keys and tried to start the engine. But the car remained silent, refusing to yield to his frantic attempts.

"What the hell? Why isn't my car working? There's no way it's broken," he muttered, his heart pounding in his chest. Time seemed to slow as the reality of the situation sunk in – a looming catastrophe, and he was trapped, helpless, in its path.

Panic gripped him as he surveyed the chaos unfolding outside his window. Every electronic device in the vicinity had succumbed to the same eerie silence. "We are so fucked," he muttered under his breath, his mind racing for a plan. With a newfound determination, he dashed out of his car, a desperate hope flickering in his eyes.

The streets were a maelstrom of fear and desperation. People, driven to the brink of madness, trampled over one another, their frantic attempts to escape the inevitable leading to chaos. Luther fought his way through the suffocating crowd, every inch of progress hard-earned. The realization hit him like a punch to the gut; staying there meant certain death. He retraced his steps, heart pounding, and found refuge inside a nearby mall, where the crowd was thinner.

Inside, he formulated a plan. His eyes fell on a skateboard in one of the stores, a glimmer of opportunity in the darkness. Without hesitation, he grabbed it and headed toward the mall's underground passage. The skateboard became his lifeline, allowing him to navigate the underground maze with relative ease. He knew he had to reach the other mall, 3km away, if he stood any chance of survival.

The ominous presence of the meteor loomed overhead, its gravitational force intensifying with every passing moment. The pressure bore down on him and those around him, suffocating them even in the depths of the underground passage. Gasping for air, he pressed on, his determination the only thing keeping him moving forward.

"This is bad," he gasped, the weight of the situation settling heavily on his shoulders. "I can't breathe properly down here, and there's pressure coming from the meteor, making it hard to move. What a shitty day. I hope my family is safe."

Despite the overwhelming odds, he pushed forward on his makeshift skateboard, the distant sounds of chaos above serving as a constant reminder of the danger he was in. He forced himself to continue, his lungs burning, until he reached a point where he had to stop and gasp for air.

The deafening impact reverberated through the ground, and the world outside was engulfed in a blinding light. In a 30km radius, destruction reigned supreme. Luther, too, was not spared. The force of the explosion tossed him like a ragdoll, his body contorted in grotesque angles upon landing in a rural area nearby. Bones shattered, spine split in two, arms and legs dislocated, he lay broken and battered. Yet, against all odds, he clung to life, a testament to human resilience in the face of unfathomable catastrophe.

"Ha- cough, mdjgldjgk, jfkdjkk," he gasped, attempting to speak but finding his words garbled and unintelligible. His throat burned with pain, and he stared up at the sky, his thoughts a jumbled mess. "How can this get any worse?" he wondered, a bitter sense of irony tainting his consciousness.

To his shock, his silent plea was met with a cruel answer. A massive rock fragment from the meteor crashed into him, sending him spiraling into unconsciousness. The impact was brutal, knocking him out cold. The rock, oddly, vanished into his body, leaving behind a bizarre and mysterious phenomenon.

Hours later, natives discovered him and, in a desperate bid to save his life, carried him to a hospital. However, the hospitals were overrun, leaving the villagers with no choice but to resort to traditional remedies. A kind-hearted woman intervened, taking him into her care. Using herbs and rudimentary methods, she nursed him back to a semblance of health. Branches and cement were employed to mend his broken spine, a makeshift solution that surprisingly worked.

Three decades elapsed in this strange state. When he finally regained consciousness, confusion clouded his mind. "Ugh, my head," he groaned, trying to make sense of his surroundings. "Where am I? Is this a hospital? I can't remember what happened."

As he explored the decaying hospital, his memories started to piece together. "The meteor... I could have sworn I died that day. Why am I here? And why does the hospital look like a complete wreck?"

His thoughts raced, anxiety clawing at him. He ventured further into the hospital, encountering eerie silence broken only by occasional creaks and shuffles. "Seems I'm in Oshakati Hospital. Who brought me here, exactly? And more importantly, where is everyone? Not to mention the state of this place."

A sense of dread gnawed at him, intensifying with every step he took. When he stumbled upon a bathroom mirror, he studied his own reflection, searching for answers. "Judging by how I look the same, not a lot of time should have passed. Let's get out of here first."

Steeling himself, he ventured out into the hallway. But his relief at finding himself alive was short-lived.

"I hear someone, hello, can you hear me? Where is everyone-" his voice trailed off as he realized the person before him was no longer fully human. A profound terror gripped him as he stumbled backward, but it was too late. The twisted figure, a macabre parody of life, lunged at him.

"Aaaaah, what the hell is that thing?" he ran, his steps faltering, and sought refuge in a room. Hiding beneath a bed, he prayed to whatever gods might be listening.

The creature entered, sniffing the air like a hunting predator. He held his breath, trembling. As the zombie turned away, he dared to breathe again. "Phew, that was close. What's going on? Was that a real zombie?"

His momentary relief was shattered when he peered out and found the same creature waiting for him. Panic surged through him as he was cornered, the undead monster lunging at him. Acting on instinct, he fought back, using a steel pole to bludgeon the creature.

A red smoke emanated from the fallen creature and seeped into his body. "Hm? What was that just now?" he wondered..

He retched, repulsed by the sight before him. After regaining his composure, he steeled himself for what lay ahead. "I have so many things I am confused about, but let me get out of here first."

As he cautiously stepped into the hallway, another zombie, different from the rest, emerged behind him. A new horror awaited, and his survival instincts kicked into overdrive, preparing him for whatever nightmare he was about to face.
