Nathaniel stared into Paige's hazel eyes as he kissed the back of her hand. He vowed silently that he would protect her at all costs. If he needed to eliminate JA Industries, he would do it. He had a call scheduled with James Allen III tomorrow to discuss this and have things come to an end, hopefully. If he had to leave this life and go abroad with her, he would do that.
"I have a request, then," Paige said.
"Name it," he said.
"I want another picture of us on our date tonight," she said smiling.
"Done," he said, grinning. He quickly grabbed his phone and texted his assistant requesting a photographer for tonight. Even if he forgot to take a picture, the photographer would have one.
They arrived at Paige's apartment. She went to her room and Nathaniel followed. Paige decided that she would pack two suitcases. One to stay at Nathaniel's place and one in case she needed to run. There was a part of her that was not convinced that her family had nothing to do with what happened yesterday. It would make her feel better knowing that she had everything she needed if she needed to leave at a moment's notice.
She went into her bathroom and grabbed the toiletries she needed, packing them in a travel bag. She went and grabbed two suitcases from her closet. One was already full. The other she opened and put the bag of toiletries in and proceeded to pack clothes that she'd need. She packed for about a week. She turned to Nathaniel.
"Can you take this to the car? I'll pack the rest and be right out," Paige said, patting the suitcase that she was zipping up.
Nathaniel was hesitant to leave Paige alone. But, he did want to be helpful and the car was parked right outside. "Okay, I will be right back. If anything happens, scream," he said sternly.
"Nathan, I think I'm okay alone for 5 minutes," she replied.
"Baby, yesterday really messed with me. I know you don't remember anything but I hated seeing you so sick," he said softly.
"I'm sorry. It's hard for me because all I remember is going to sleep the night before after our… conversation," she said teasingly.
Nathaniel paused for a second, looking at her. "Are you attempting to seduce me, Miss Everett?" he asked with a coy smile. Paige stared at him, smiling in response.
"Would it work?" she replied. She looked over towards her bed and then added, "I was right there on my bed when I was speaking with you." Her voice sounded sultry and she had emphasized the word 'speaking'.
Nathaniel smiled at Paige. "I will take your suitcase outside, baby. Just remember that I am holding back because you just got out of the hospital and I will get you back," he said, grabbing the suitcase from her.
Paige watched him walk out of her room and opened her other suitcase. Her small safe was still inside, as well as an album with a few photographs from her new life. She threw in a few days of clothes that would make her not stand out and closed it. She wheeled it to the front door where she met Nathaniel.
"Done already?" he asked, grabbing the suitcase from Paige. It was really heavy. "What's in here, your whole closet? Not that I mind. You can stay as long as you want."
"Oh, you have room for me?" she teased.
"I can make room for you," he said, throwing the suitcase in his car. "Are we getting your car?"
"Yes, let's take it. I don't want to trouble you or a driver every time I need to go anywhere. I also like my independence," she said. She and Nathaniel got into the vehicle and drove to her office. Her car was still where she left the previous day. She got out of the vehicle and walked over to it with Nathaniel trailing behind her. She felt fear come over her.
She shook her head. Nathaniel caught up to her and looked at her, squeezing her hand. "My security checked your vehicle. It's safe to drive. I wouldn't have offered this as an option for you if I didn't already know that. But," he said, pausing, "I'm driving us to my place."
"Why can't I drive?" Paige asked, slightly annoyed.
"You just got out of the hospital. Let me take care of you, baby," he said gently, kissing her on the cheek. Paige felt her negative feelings fade and she unlocked her car with her fob and got into the passenger seat. Nathaniel had to adjust the car seat as it was set to Paige's height, and got in the car. He set the mirrors so that he could see and then started driving to his house.
Nathaniel wondered when he should tell Paige about his feelings. He was worried that this realization had come too fast for him because Paige seemed to barely start liking him recently and he didn't want to overwhelm her. He decided to not think about it right now.
Paige was sitting in her seat, trying to remember the morning she was almost kidnapped. She knows what she must have done based upon her routine, but she couldn't remember anything. As they approached the mansion, Paige remembered an issue that she had with the road.
"Nathan, you need to put lights on this road. It's pitch black at night and it's scary," she complained.
Nathaniel chuckled at Paige's words. She was so adorable to him. "I'll talk to my staff and see what we can do. I can't have you frightened," he teased.
"I didn't say I was scared, just that it was scary," Paige quipped back.
Nathaniel shook his head. "My apologies. Unfortunately, if it's not for you, I don't care enough to change it, so it will remain the same," he said, baiting her.
Paige stared at him. "Why do you only care about me? Your driver might hate it," she asked.
"I pay them very well to tolerate it. You are one of the few people I care about, so I'd change it for you," he said firmly.
They pulled up to the front door and Nathaniel got out, walked over to the passenger side and opened Paige's door. A valet was waiting, and Nathaniel tossed him the keys as he extended a hand to help Paige out of the car. She took his hand and then held it as she walked through the opened front door with. Arthur was waiting by the door.
"Master Donovan, is there anything I can do to be of service?" he asked in his normal formal tone.
"Yes, Arthur. Paige and I will take a light lunch in our respective rooms. Also, have a maid assist Paige with unpacking her belongings," he said sternly.
"You're leaving me alone?" Paige asked. Nathaniel looked at her and smiled as he escorted her up the stairs.
"Well, we need to get ready for our date. I have some arrangements to finish taking care of and you are about to have quite a few people helping you get ready," he said gently.
"I am capable of getting ready by myself, you know," Paige stated. She wasn't against being pampered but this level of treatment didn't need to happen every time they went out.
"I know that. Paige, you are stunningly beautiful without any of that stuff. But, you just got out of the hospital and I still feel guilty about it. If you don't feel like having their help, shoo them away. I'll still pay them," he said nonchalantly, stopping at the door to the room Paige was in last time.
"My room is right down the hall. If you need anything, ask any of the servants. You can also find me, but I can't guarantee I'll be wearing clothes," he said with a wolffish grin. Paige blushed.
"Ok, thank you," she said, pecking him on the lips. She turned to go into the room and Nathaniel caught her hand.
"Can I have one more kiss? I won't get to see you for hours," he said, pouting. Paige decided to indulge him and kissed him again. Nathaniel immediately let go of her hand and put it on her waist, pulling her into his embrace. As he put his other hand on the back of her head, he deepened their kiss. Paige gasped slightly and he used the opportunity to slide his tongue into her mouth and massaged hers. She moaned slightly at the contact. She felt her toes curling and wrapped her arms around his neck. They stayed intently connected by their mouths in front of her door for several minutes.
He broke their kiss, looking down at her. Paige looked into his eyes, smiling softly. Nathaniel wanted nothing more than to pick her up and take her straight to his bed, but he wouldn't. She was just in the hospital. He kissed her forehead gently and let her out of his embrace.
"I have the energy to get through the next few hours, now," he said with a grin.
"I'm glad I recharged you," she whispered. She opened the door to the room while staring at Nathaniel and waved goodbye.
