It was the next day, a Saturday. It was the afternoon, and at this moment, Daemon was driving on the road with Dinaia in the passenger seat instead of Evelyn.

Quite uncharacteristically, he was throwing sidelong glances at the one beside him. It was one of those contemptuous glances that were supposed to show just how much the target was being looked down upon. Daemon transmitted his innermost, or outermost, feelings in the subtle way of someone who mastered the gesture, but Dinaia caught him in the act, whether that had been his intention or not.

She huffed in anger:

"Why are you looking at me like that? Have you never been wrong, or forgotten something? Have you never had a moment of carelessness? Huh?"

Daemon turned his eyes back to the road, and after giving Dinaia the time to finish her tirade, he answered curtly:
