Finally, my father, the esteemed head of our house, sat at the head of the table.
After exchanging pleasantries, I gracefully made my way to the right side of the table, settling beside Inez, ready to savor the delicious meal before me. The ambiance was pleasant, and the aroma of the food filled the air.
However, as the conversation flowed, Melisa couldn't resist making a jest at my expense. "She looks nothing like you, your grace. Are you sure she's your child?" she giggled, her words laced with mischief. I felt a slight pang of annoyance, but I remained composed.

The countess, attempted to diffuse the tension. "Come now, Inez, Melisa was simply joking. I'm sure there was no ill intent," she intervened, her gaze fixed on Inez, urging her to let the matter go.
Understanding the delicate balance of the situation, I decided to excuse myself gracefully, not wanting to escalate the situation any further. "Please, if you'll excuse me, I would like to retire and rest," I politely requested, rising from my seat. I maintained my composure, unwilling to waste my time on petty squabbles.
