章節 9: . Chapter: Not family (1)

A week has past, Amy was truly busy and not to mention the holidays are closing in, Kyrith might not see Amy for two weeks. Kyrith understood tho, having work and your own family to attend to was important, Amy's family did love pretty far for here. family would always be there for you, would do anything for you in most cases. Not Kyrith's case for sure.

On her knees in the living room, on the glass table layed a deck of cards, not the ones you'd play goldfish with, but tarot cards. Kyrith had found them hidden behind the shelves of books in the library, it was a matter of time before Kyrith would go on a quest again there.

One day the library's secrets would be unlocked by Kyrith like a level in a game. That's what she believed.

Kyrith didn't know how to use tarot cards, her only knowledge of them were they were used for fortune telling. Kyrith was an intelligent young lady, but doing research on these cards haven't crossed her mind.

Carefully stacking the cards upon each other, using these cards for card stacking were no different then the normal ones.

Intense constant concentration was required, a skill not many possessed. When Kyrith first tried stacking cards a long time ago, her tower fell and Kyrith flipped, the sudden fuel of anger must always be resisted. Kyrith was calm now, full of more balance, making card towers with five or six levels. Carefully working on the third level, Kyrith took a peek from the corner of her eyes and saw Emily.

Great, was she going to distribute destruction amongst her innocent castle? It would be a shame to see it fall.

Emily stood still like the statues in the mansion garden, tho the statues in the garden wore pretty robes and dress and held up the sky and sun. Emily held a present box, white with a silver ribbon. Kyrith looked down at her card tower, if Emily had intentions to show-off, Kyrith didn't want to be the witness of her anger. Emily didn't move, starring at Kyrith with cold eyes, Kyrith began to wonder if Meduse was in the mansion, if so Kyrith would convince Medusa to leave her alone.

Emily took a few steps closer, Kyrith shielded her tower, the most precious thing to her alive at the moment, Emily gazed down at Kyrith.

„Good evening dear sister Emily, as you can see I'm doing something quite important"

„I don't care, I came to give you this"

Emily places the present box down on the glass table, making sure to blow down Kyrith's castle like the big bad wolf. Disappointed creeped in, but Kyrith had suspected Emily would do such thing.

Kyrith looked at the present box, it said her name on it, temptation to open the box was strong, Kyrith followed those instructions of her mind. Unwrapping the ribbon, a letter was there, ‚dear Kyrith, I feel so guilty for my long absence. I have finished work now heading to my family. Take care! From Amy Janyer"

Kyrith folded the letter neatly after a short pause, aware of Emily's eyes examining the letter too. Kyrith didn't even need to see Emily's face, she was jealous but stayed silent. Kyrith wanted to open the gift too, opening the present box, Kyrith's heart swelled with warmth gazing down at the adorable tea set. The tea set was white, with hand-painted pink roses infused into the tea set, delicate cups, spoons and pots lied in the tissue paper.

It was the most graceful gift to receive, Amy was so kind to do such thing for Kyrith. Kyrith understood something now, maid Stacey would have given this to her, Emily must have been so curious of who it's from and what was inside that she delivered the gift herself. That wasn't the only reason tho, Emily wanted to portray herself as a kind girl, doing this small act was just a play. Emily would never buy anything so expensive or anything for Kyrith at all, their was no need to worry she bought it.

Kyrith admired the tea set and Amy's kindness, Amy really was a mother giving her daughter a present for the holidays, her father had been giving Kyrith dresses and shoes for all her special occasions. The tea set was special.

Emily stood in her place, despised Kyrith for receiving a gift from her tutor, a tutor! Emily couldn't imagine how close Kyrith had grown with Amy, never suspecting a mother and daughter relationship.

„Oh isn't it lovely Emily? Its so sweet of Amy to think of me"

Those words stabbed through Emily like a silver dagger, tearing up her skin and striking her dark heart.

Emily reached out for a cup in the tea set, Kyrith saw the whole process in slow motion, Emily wanted to destroy the tea set Amy had given her. Kyrith reacted fast and grabbed Emily's wrist, gripping it tight while bending it back slowly. Emily flinched at her sisters movements, wincing in slight discomfort to pain.

„Let go of my wirst! It hurts!" wailed Emily, she gritted her teeth together and bit her tongue, in attempt to reduce the pain.

Kyrith let go of course, holding her for to long would leave a mark, evidence to cause her trouble against her own father. Kyrith stayed aware of Emily, if she did again resume her cruel actions towards Kyrith. Kyrith glanced at Emily, giving her the look of death, the look to go die in a hole.

„I appreciate you Emily, but I suppose it's best if you leave"

Emily turned her back and walked away, checking her wrist for any mark of guilt, disappointed to find nothing left. On the other hand, Kyrith formed a smile once more on her face and tucked the beautiful tea set away in the box, Kyrith would use it, but for now it would stay somewhere safe in her room.

Kyrith Called maid Stacey to gently leave the gift on her table in her room, Kyrith resumed with her card stacking.

Tho card stacking requires full focus, Kyrith sighed lightly thinking about her own family. It didn't feel right, no love or affection was received or given, just gifts. Kyrith's father does love her, but it never felt like it. Kyrith dreamed of a future family, a kind husband to take care of her and her family, wonderful kids to give love to. Kyrith swore she would do it right, have a proper family, unlike hers, full of wickedness and vengeance.

Never meaning to fall to the darkside, Kyrith had to save her own life, no one else's mattered until her own would be free. The only family Kyrith felt like she had was Amy, a mother and Violet, a sister-like cat.

Finishing the fourth level, Kyrith couldn't think about anything else but for the card to not slip, just as Kyrith was about the place the last card on top, it collapsed. That one card Kyrith begged to not slip, slipped. It caused the whole down fall of the card nation and fell into Kyrith's hand, taking its place in her palm. It was the fall of a great empire in slow motion, over exaggerating the mess. The rest of the cards glided to the table ground like leaves from a tree, Kyrith wanted to scream, stuck in a state of shock she was so close to move on to the fifth level. All her hard work was ruined!

„It's just a card game, it's just a card game" Kyrith whispered to herself, trying to achieve a new level of peace in her soul to let the cards go.

Kyrith wanted to blame that one card that didn't listen to her, place that card in court and sentence it to one year in prison. The card could hire Amy to be its lawyer but still lose. Kyrith liked to make this seem like a bigger problem, it made her calm down a lot.

Kyrith still had that one guilty card in her hand, with curiosity of what was written on it, Kyrith flipped it over. On the card was written a future, ,you will soon encounter someone you will grow with"

A strange tarot card, Kyrith might not no how to use them but the cards might know how to still play with Kyrith, She did find them by accident. An accident that was meant to happen in her case.

Those words ,you will soon encounter someone you will grow with", did they mean Kyrith was going to meet someone else in the near future? Maybe, maybe not, fate is a game of poker, and Kyrith doesn't like poker.

Packing up the tarot cards, once again Stacey was ordered to take them to Kyrith's room since Kyrith had somewhere else to go, the library.

The will to learn to use the tarot cards was strong, ever since Kyrith's rebirth, strange events have been happening, strange abilities of foreseeing the future and joined her. Kyrith's life had become an episode of a series of unfortunate events. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, that's what made life interesting, before her life was a boring mess, blind from the truth with nothing extraordinary. Being chosen for a purpose that might forever be unknown, living her new life would never be forgotten.
