Chapter 52: No More Pretending, Time to Reveal the Truth!
With his rear sticking up in a "Falling Goose Pose," Uchiha Yoshinari lay unconscious.
Whether it was the excruciating pain in his lower body or the overwhelming humiliation, one thing was certain: this would haunt him for a long time, carving his name onto the metaphorical pillar of shame in the academy's history.
Toneri stood still, scanning the crowd. Not a single person dared meet his gaze. Satisfied, he nodded approvingly.
As a strong and mighty figure, as a master!
This was exactly the kind of dominance he sought—an aura so imposing that no one could look him in the eye. He had conquered the academy; next was all of Konoha!
Walking over to one of Yoshinari's lackeys, Toneri stretched out a hand, intending to pat him on the shoulder.
The lackey, seeing Toneri's hand approach, reacted as if a wild beast was lunging at him.
However, when he noticed Toneri's calm, almost kind smile—with an underlying menace—his body froze in fear. Attempting to dodge no longer seemed like an option.
Smack—smack—
Toneri patted him on the shoulder.
Unnoticeably, he brushed his fingers on the lackey's clothing, prompting a look of utter despair.
Satisfied, Toneri draped an arm over the lackey's shoulders and used his other hand to pat the opposite side.
"Take him back to rest properly," Toneri instructed in a low voice. "And remember this—never make fun of Kushina's hair again. Or else... well, you know."
The lackey, shaking in terror, nodded furiously. He was already planning to burn this outfit as soon as possible.
With that, Toneri walked off, making a show of wiping his hands against his own pants, as if the lackey were carrying something particularly filthy.
Then Toneri stood atop the academy's entrance steps, ready to deliver a speech—or perhaps a declaration.
"I intended to keep a low profile and live among you as a regular student," he began, his voice calm but commanding. "But your mocking of my friend has pushed me too far.
"Fine, I won't pretend anymore. I'm revealing the truth—I'm the Taijutsu Prodigy of the Ninja Academy!
"Anyone who doubts me is welcome to challenge me. But if I hear so much as a whisper of mockery directed at Kushina again... don't blame me for being ruthless!
"The Thousand Years of Death is only the most basic of my many secret techniques. Consider your options carefully... heh."
With that, Toneri turned and walked into the building, leaving a bewildered crowd behind—particularly as they glanced at the unconscious and humiliating pose of Yoshinari.
Everyone shuddered, quickly heading inside.
Kushina stood rooted for a moment, her gaze shifting between the retreating Toneri and Yoshinari lying on the ground.
While she appreciated Toneri standing up for her, the nature of his techniques made her feel a little nauseous.
The next time they sparred... maybe she should go easy on him?
Ugh—
Suppressing the churn in her stomach, Kushina headed to class.
---
In Kushina's opinion, Toneri's actual strength wasn't remarkable. There were other students whose taijutsu skills rivaled or even surpassed his.
After all, while his talent was undeniable, he had only been training as a ninja for about a month.
But today, Toneri exploited Yoshinari's underestimation of him, delivering a devastating blow that stunned everyone watching.
No one dared provoke Toneri further. The chilling Thousand Years of Death technique left a deep impression on everyone—mentally and physically.
It wasn't just a fight. It was a trauma.
An ordinary duel might result in minor injuries that healed in a week or two.
But a fight with Toneri risked lifetime scars—both physical and psychological.
"He fights in a way that doesn't just cost medical supplies—it demands surgical intervention!" someone murmured.
"That title of 'Taijutsu Prodigy'? He can have it."
This sentiment reflected the crowd's unified thoughts as they collectively decided never to provoke him again.
---
When Kushina entered the classroom, she saw Toneri sprawled on his desk, fast asleep.
After a moment's hesitation, she returned to her seat but made sure to keep a little distance between them.
She also noticed other students sneaking glances at Toneri, clearly wary of him.
"Hmm? Kushina, you're here," Toneri mumbled, rubbing his eyes groggily. "Sorry, I was too tired. Huh? What's with that look?"
Kushina pursed her lips.
As Toneri sat up, a hint of suspicion flashed in his eyes.
Wait... could it be that Kushina was impressed by his heroic display?
But what about Minato? And the future?
"Toneri... did you wash your hands?" Kushina asked hesitantly.
Thunk—
Toneri nearly toppled off his chair.
In his mind, he could almost hear the clinking of chains—like the adamantine sealing chains she was famous for.
Gulp—
Swallowing hard, he nodded quickly. "Of course! Washed them clean!"
"Really?" Kushina's eyes narrowed.
"I... I'll wash them again, just in case!" Toneri blurted before bolting out of the room.
Outside, he exhaled deeply, patting his chest in relief. "Hair that flies? Masashi Kishimoto wasn't lying."
---
That evening, after a full dinner at the Nara residence, Toneri roamed Konoha's streets, seeking extra food.
Thanks to the Anbu providing him with a highly detailed map, his sense of direction had slightly improved. He even found the elusive Ichiraku Ramen.
After finishing his errands, he arrived at Orochimaru's residence, descending into the underground lab.
Orochimaru, as usual, was busy at his workstation.
For the past two weeks, Toneri had been assisting Orochimaru as his lab assistant. The two had developed an efficient working relationship, seamlessly sharing tasks without unnecessary words.
"Toneri-kun, I heard Tsunade approached you last night," Orochimaru remarked while cleaning his equipment.
His voice was as calm and cold as always.
"Yes, thanks to your recommendation," Toneri replied without hesitation.
Orochimaru had used a valuable favor to convince Tsunade to teach him medical ninjutsu—a favor that wasn't easily repaid.
Medical ninjutsu was a valuable skill, and learning directly from Tsunade, one of the top three medical ninjas in the world, was a rare privilege.
"There's no need to thank me," Orochimaru said. "You know why I arranged this. Don't disappoint me. When the time comes, I won't hesitate to call on you."
---
Later, as their conversation continued, Orochimaru mentioned Toneri's earlier exploits.
"So... you used an unusual taijutsu to defeat an Uchiha and even helped him awaken his Sharingan?"
Toneri blinked in confusion.
Wait... what?!
Orochimaru reassured them, "Don't worry about this for now. I'll teach you a new technique later that will greatly enhance your chakra control."
