Julio peered at him with eyes round and wide. “If you’re looking for me to change into something dressy, this is as good as it’s going to get. I don’t have my good clothes with me and even if I did, I don’t think I could get into my red leather pants.”

“You’re fine the way you are. For me, it’s different. With Armand, this is as casual Friday as it gets for Council Alphas in his presence.” Etienne attempted to knot his tie, but his fingers were shaking.

“Sit down. I’ll get behind you and do it. I may not wear them, but my dad taught me how to tie them.” Julio got up and made his way slowly to the dressing area. “You know my story now. It’s time to tell me yours.” Etienne remembered their earlier discussion about Julio being wary.

“You’ll know before I leave.” Etienne tried to hold it together and not panic. “Promise me you’ll give us a chance. Listen with an open mind. Don’t predetermine the outcome.”
